Common Questions and Answers about Concussion grade 1

concussion

Avatar m tn Concussions come in various flavors. One of the difficulties is in judging the severity of a concussion. Several protocols have been devised, and none are completely satisfactory. The professional sports medicine physician's commonly class them as grade 1, grade 2 or grade 3. This means that there can be a broad range of outcomes.
Avatar m tn My 16 year old son was in a car wreck 5 1/2 days ago where he suffered a grade 2 moderate concussion. He was knocked unconscious for a short period of time & received a scalp laceration to the right side of his head . The CT scan discovered what the neurosurgeon described as a small thread size bleed. Later that day another CT scan was done & all signs of bleeding were gone & the blood had been absorbed. His stay in the hospital was for 3 days.
Avatar n tn I was in a MVA Sept 2007. I have a grade 3 concussion. I have now had PCS for 6 months. Dr's say i'm looking at 1 year before i recover. I have major sleep problems, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, bad balance, headaches, memory problems,no sense of smell, sensitivity to light and noise, very poor concentration. Everything is a huge effort. I try pushing myself but that only has made me so frusturated I turn into a monster!
Avatar f tn The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.
Avatar m tn My daughter has hit her eye and we are worried about a concussion.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 6 and is special needs, she took a tumble at school resulting in a concussion, she was diagnosis shortly there after with Amblyopia, could her fall cause this condition or is it just one of those things that happens ? Thank you !
Avatar f tn I have seen multiple doctors (3 neurosurgeons, 1 opthamologist, and 1 neurologist) over the course of his life. He has had more MRI's and CT scans than a 10 year old should, why is this only coming out now? OR is there a chance the radiologist had zero clue what he was doing and my son's brain is fine? (Or as fine as it could be?) Can he recover the tissue lost? Or is it only going to get worse? Can a child suffer from dimentia?
Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar m tn im 16 years old and i expierence frequent headaches. when i was in fourth grade, about 9 years old, i got a concussion. im not sure if that has anything to do with it, but ever since then, i got very frequent headaches. at first, we thought it was normal, but now they are coming more and more often and the pain keeps getting worse. for about three weeks now, the back of my head feels as if it was hit with something hard, like a sledge hammer and it is going through the after effects.
Avatar m tn • I have been getting chronic (daily) low grade headaches in the front / top of my head for almost two years. It feels like a tension type headache. • I get the headaches when I am with friends, at work or in school. Whenever I have to engage in cognitive tasks and absorb a lot of information. It effects my memory and concentration. • It all started after I got a concussion almost two years ago around the same time the symptoms started.
Avatar f tn Then yesterday when it was snowy and slippery outside I slipped (my balance has been HORRIBLE since I suffered a concussion in late January) and caught myself on my left elbow and right hand, as I was trying to keep myself from getting wet because I was walking into work. For an idea of how hard I hit it, I had a long sleeve shirt on and a jacket and still managed to get a small cut on my elbow. It was sore yesterday but I didn't think much of it since I fell pretty hard.
Avatar m tn Yes, a TBI can cause loss of taste and smell. This can be a part of concussion. If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out. The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
251315 tn?1198196557 i Went to a neurologist and he dignosed me with Post concussion syndrom. i hit my head pretty good, 1 the whip lash (i cant remember if i hit it on anything in my car) but as i was exiting to see what he did i smacked it on the metal bar getting out and then when the paramedic arrived i was laying in my car as they got me out the car he was holding my neck up right and i smacked it again on the metal bar getting out the car again.
Avatar m tn It sounds like some type of infection. Where do you live? Does he have any cough? Fatigue? It could just be a virus that is hanging on. There are several out there this year that are lasting a few weeks. But these usually have the congestion/cough/ sneezing. The other possibility is TB. It depends on if he has a cough or not. He could get a TB skin test (quantiferon gold is the best) or chest Xray to rule out TB and anything in his chest. Does he have any cuts that may have been infected?
Avatar f tn G'day. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right area-don't know where else to put it. I've had a concussion for about 9 days now with "usual, mild-average" symptoms. The last couple days have been like the first couple days, cannot rest my head at night from the pain, taking two 650 mg Tylenols when I think of it, also seem more confused & forgetful (before major loss of sleep). The last 48 hrs. I've slept for 40 min's.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
Avatar f tn HERE IT IS, 2 1/2 YEARS LATER, I AM DIVORCING MY WIFE, HAVE NOT WORKED IN OVER 1 1/2 YEARS (I TRIED TO WORK A LITTLE) AND I AM COLLECTING A PERCENTAGE OF MY SSDI BENEFITS. KEEP PUSHING THE DOCTORS TO DO THE MRI. MINE IS NEGATIVE BUT MY ISSUES ARE THERE. THEY DID ONE SET OF BOTOX INJECTIONS AND THEY WERE AFRAID OF BREAKING THE NEEDLE IN MY NECK. THAT IS HOW TENSED UP MY MUSCLES HAVE BECOME FROM THE PAIN I FEEL. I DO STRETCH MY KNECK MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY TO RELAX MY BODY.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?

16465326 tn?1448202692 The attending Physician said I checked out neurologically and did not order a CT scan of my brain. A concussion was her diagnosis. Since the fall I have had the following symptoms: 1. Whiplash as my sternocleidomastoid muscles in the front of my neck have seized up and are extremely sore. Especially bad in the morning upon waking until I get going through my day. 2. Extremely irritable as the smallest of things seem to enrage me. Not emblematic of my normal behavior..3.

Avatar f tn My daughter is 13 years old and has been suffering with a terrible headache for about 2 weeks this time. She has had bouts of headaches off and on for 1 1/2 years. About 2 years ago, she was hit in the head with the handle bar of a bicycle, resulting in 12 staples in her head. They did not do a ct on her but said that she didn't suffer from a concussion. Her pediatrician has said that she can suffer from side effects for a year or so. Is this true?
