Avatar m tn My 16 year old son was in a car wreck 5 1/2 days ago where he suffered a grade 2 moderate concussion. He was knocked unconscious for a short period of time & received a scalp laceration to the right side of his head . The CT scan discovered what the neurosurgeon described as a small thread size bleed. Later that day another CT scan was done & all signs of bleeding were gone & the blood had been absorbed. His stay in the hospital was for 3 days.
Avatar m tn Concussions come in various flavors. One of the difficulties is in judging the severity of a concussion. Several protocols have been devised, and none are completely satisfactory. The professional sports medicine physician's commonly class them as grade 1, grade 2 or grade 3. This means that there can be a broad range of outcomes.
Avatar n tn I had a grade 2 concussion from a college soccer accident. it took me up to 6 months to "fully recover" (in the dr's eyes). Ever since the accident i have dealt with concentration problems, headaches, sleep apnea, memory problems. I am 24 yrs old and at the time of my accident 21. I hope you have better luck. i have recently been diagnosed w/ a pituitary tumor. i felt exactly how you did for such a long time.
Avatar n tn My son did not have a CATscan or MRI. Is 2 months considered excessive? My son did have a mild concussion this past fall as well.
Avatar m tn Yes, a TBI can cause loss of taste and smell. This can be a part of concussion. If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out. The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
Avatar f tn My question is about recovery time. Those of you who know me know that I had a tumor removed and a total hysterectomy with "all-clear" for cancer two weeks ago tomorrow. You all have figured out I'm not a very patient person when it comes to myself, but, hey, it's been two weeks. The past couple of days I've been walking in the brisk Michigan air to get some color back in the cheeks(Darn Iron isn't working fast enough, either).
Avatar f tn t masturbate, but I have had, sex during concussion recovery and my symptoms always increase afterward, even if the sex is not strenuous. It is the movement of the head that cause such, so due to my head injury history and experience, any movements that affect movement of the head can have a negative affect on concussion symptoms and recovery.
Avatar m tn My daughter has hit her eye and we are worried about a concussion.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor tested to see if a rise in blood pressure aggravates or causes the return of your concussion symptoms. Your recovery time generally depends upon this assessment. A recent study conducted by the University of Buffalo’s Concussion Management Clinic suggests that cardio vascular exercise performed on a equipment that does not involve a lot of impact or bouncing such as a stationary bike, elliptical or treadmill can speed the recovery process. One of the lead researchers Dr.
Avatar f tn The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with diastolic dysfunction grade 2 more than 2 years ago. I have been involved with a strength training circuit training program the last year and a half. I have noticed that I am having increasing SOB between exercises and have to sit crunch ed over to catch my breath. A few hours after class I also feel totally wiped out and can't do anything but rest. This also happens if I try to do any high intensity activity so I try to stay away from real high intensity circuits.
Avatar m tn • I have been getting chronic (daily) low grade headaches in the front / top of my head for almost two years. It feels like a tension type headache. • I get the headaches when I am with friends, at work or in school. Whenever I have to engage in cognitive tasks and absorb a lot of information. It effects my memory and concentration. • It all started after I got a concussion almost two years ago around the same time the symptoms started.
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar f tn I am 54 years old, Sand I suffered a concussion a about 2 weeks ago. I tripped over a high curb, with a 2 year old in my arms.I automatically pushed her to the side and I took the bang to the head. Of course my concern was the little girl. I checked her over. And she seemed fine. Except she cried for awhile. The whole thing is a blur it happens so fast. Later in the day I was sitting on the couch. And my 10 yr old grandson said look at me Meemaw and look to your right.
Avatar f tn Ok so I have had close to the whole chart in symptoms of a concussion 7 months post impact. I was recovering at a fairly normal pace until about 3/4 weeks into recovery when pain worse than when I had the initial headache from trauma. Keep in mind at that point I was a healthy 15 year old boy that was extremely active. Well anyway the pain that had returned from nowhere was increasing gradually for about one and a half months until the pain was so intense I had to go to the ER at 1am.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone, A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
Avatar n tn t working so he took me for lots of rides in the country and out to the lake. I love to cook so was able to have the time to do experimenting (after the first 2 weeks) and I bought a recipe organizer software and started working on that project. I'm also getting to all those non-physical organizing projects I always put off. It feels really good. You'll do just fine!
Avatar m tn So in June of 2011, I was assaulted from behind while walking in to a McDonalds. At the time I was intoxicated, as I was coming back from the Fremont St Experience in Las Vegas. I was brought to the hospital after complaining about severe dizziness and head pain. CT scan showed a contusion and hematoma on the left frontal lobe. I was there for 3 days before they released me, as the bleed was not getting any worse.
