My 16 year old son was in a car wreck 5 1/2 days ago where he suffered a grade 2 moderate concussion. He was knocked unconscious for a short period of time & received a scalp laceration to the right side of his head . The CT scan discovered what the neurosurgeon described as a small thread size bleed. Later that day another CT scan was done & all signs of bleeding were gone & the blood had been absorbed. His stay in the hospital was for 3 days.

Yes, a TBI can cause loss of taste and smell. This can be a part of concussion. If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out.
The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
My question is about recovery time. Those of you who know me know that I had a tumor removed and a total hysterectomy with "all-clear" for cancer two weeks ago tomorrow. Ok so I have had close to the whole chart in symptoms of a concussion 7 months post impact. I was recovering at a fairly normal pace until about 3/4 weeks into recovery when pain worse than when I had the initial headache from trauma. Keep in mind at that point I was a healthy 15 year old boy that was extremely active. Well anyway the pain that had returned from nowhere was increasing gradually for about one and a half months until the pain was so intense I had to go to the ER at 1am.
My daughter is 6 and is special needs, she took a tumble at school resulting in a concussion, she was diagnosis shortly there after with Amblyopia, could her fall cause this condition or is it just one of those things that happens ?

A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
t working so he took me for lots of rides in the country and out to the lake. I love to cook so was able to have the time to do experimenting (after the first 2 weeks) and I bought a recipe organizer software and started working on that project. I'm also getting to all those non-physical organizing projects I always put off. It feels really good. You'll do just fine!
So in June of 2011, I was assaulted from behind while walking in to a McDonalds. At the time I was intoxicated, as I was coming back from the Fremont St Experience in Las Vegas. I was brought to the hospital after complaining about severe dizziness and head pain. CT scan showed a contusion and hematoma on the left frontal lobe. I was there for 3 days before they released me, as the bleed was not getting any worse.
