Avatar f tn Please help. My son is autistic. He has bowel issues. He can hold in an enema. He is on several meds. Adderall, Metformin, Risperdol, clonidine. I'm wondering if the weight gain is causing the adderall to be less effective. He's on 20mgs in the morning and 10mgs in the afternoon. He complains about he can't focus any more. It's making him very upset and very hard to deal with. I'm at my wits end. He will only deal with me. I feel like I'm a terrible mother.
Avatar f tn Well that's very great news. Some of us are on medications that don't cause weight gain and it is much better. But some of us still are and the medications still work and don't cause other problems. For myself, the mood stabilizer I take Clonidine causes weight gain. I bought some chocolates today and I had already eaten dessert. I was going to snack on them anyway but I told myself not to or the weight gain would start so I didn't.
Avatar f tn I had some problem with weight gain from Seroquel and especially Risperdal. Abilify is less likely to do that but from what you say the Seroquel is tolerable except for the weight gain. Complex. It is important to keep the weight gain in check so I'd suggest having your psychiatrist refer you to a nutrionist and definitely get a test (at least once a year) for blood sugar levels and the like (on any antipsychotic).
1039200 tn?1314912008 However, I do take other medications such as Clonidine that can cause weight gain and diabetes runs in my family (my mother has pre diabetes, my aunt has diabetes that is already insulin resistant) so I am cautious as to my diet just to prevent this regardless. If a person has the inherited traits for it they are more likely to be susceptible to acquire it as well.
Avatar f tn It does make sense to take Abilify during the day if its keeping a person awake at night as it can be activating. If not it won't make a difference as regards weight gain. Abilify is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain. I have posted about the antipsychotics in development that won't do this but they still are not approved medications yet. If you were diagnosed with bipolar with psychotic features you need an antipsychotic.
142722 tn?1281533616 Dr put me on a 5 day taper program which I think is fast but he says it doesn't matter how many pills I was taking his program would work. So he gave me 13pills and here is the program: 3 3 times a day for two days 2 2 times a day for two days 1 1 time a day for three days He gave me 3 days supple of clonidine .1mg. Does clonidine help with w/d???? I start the program tomorrow and I am really scared and hope it works.

Avatar m tn Thank you very much. I wonder how do you sleep? Your note gives me incougement and if I had a place to call home things would be a lot easier. I refuse my families request to return to a abusive relationship. So now I a out cast and they are miss guided and hurtful on top of every thing every kind word means much to me right now. Thank you again.
19740770 tn?1483557078 Many meds do cause weight gain in some people -- you can tell if your med is one of them by looking on the manufacturer's website or looking at a site such as WebMD. But your excuse doesn't hold water -- people who go to university probably have more work than any on-line offering, as the courses are usually more rigorous at top universities, but people still find time to go out and play. I always did, even when in graduate school.
213991 tn?1214273019 You will be abl eto absorb more nutrients into your body once you quit, just remember to keep your apetite under control so that you don not gain a lot of weight. The weight gain depends to on how long you have smoked.
Avatar f tn It sounds like the treatment is useful for your son, and this is a reasonable choice for the treatment of certain mood disorders. Talk with the doctor about an alternative that might not cause such weight gain. Selecting an alternative medication is not tantamount to your son's being a guinea pig - it's not useful for you to think like that.
Avatar m tn It really works. It will not make you 100% the same as if you were taking the percs but it helps with anxiety, sleeplessness and overall feeling like crap. My doctor gave me 1.0 milligrams with a refill. She is awesome. Yesterday was my full day 2 from all addictive substances (day 9 from Vicodin) and I had some anxiety late afternoon and evening. Took a pill each time and I was fine. Slept a full 8 hours.
Avatar n tn Over the last several years she has had significant weight gain not loss. It does not seem possible that it is a misdiagnosis three times...but it is questionable to me why none of the medications work for her and none of the medications cause a loss of appetite, she actually seems to always to be hungry. I do not know where else to go...two psyhiatrists, one psychologist, and out family doctor...
Avatar f tn I posted this in my long long post about opioid withdrawals but no luck so I thought I would do a new thread.... I am coming off percocet 7.5\325 2 - 5 x a day and oxy 20 mg 2 - 3 x a day for the past couple years. I have a script for clonidine .1 which isn't doing much so I called my regular doc and he is going to put me on Klonopin ( Dosage unknown until I get script tomorrow). From what I can tell these are 2 totally different drugs. Has anyone used Klonopin for opioid withdrawls?
202665 tn?1248806733 I am still on some medications that can cause weight gain such as Clonidine and the basic way to get around weight gain is to not only eat a healthy diet as regards meals but to watch out for snacks that have a high fat, sugar or cholesterol content. Basically I don't buy them anymore so they stay out of the house so I don't eat them without thinking about it.
Avatar f tn Look up weight gain according to BMI and it will give you a good idea on the amount of weight you should gain according to your body type.
Avatar f tn Yes, they both have a side effect of weight gain but I needed the weight tho. So it works for me. I was just thinking about all the hair I too am "sheding" like my cat!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know hair-lose was one of the side effefts!!!!!!! I don't need that! :( Other than this hair lose, even the eyebrows are thinning!!!!!!!! I will question my dr.about that.
Avatar f tn Well I'm 7 months that means I'm 27 weeks and I have only gain 1 pound my midwife said it was OK 4 me to not gain weight bcz I'm over weight so u girls tell me it seems like I won't have to do a lot of weight loss. How far are u nd how much you gain?
Avatar f tn That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.
Avatar f tn You won't gain weight until later...
Avatar f tn Of course you'll gain weight.
Avatar f tn Aww don't worry. In my experience, weight gain tends to stall at the end.
Avatar n tn You gain the most weight in the last 8 weeks. So you might barely gain now, and then pack it on fast toward the end which is normal.
Avatar f tn I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'm 36weeks pregnant and since my last doctors appointment I haven't gained any weight. I didn't gain weight in the 1st trimester due 2 sickness, but in the 3rd I've been pretty steady with my weight gain...at the very least a poun a week. And now it's been almost 2 weeks and still no weight gain. Could that mean anything? Or is it just normal? Thanks in advance!
