Erythromycin is usually not tolerated well, side effects are mostly on GI system. I do not know who is using this medication now, everyone is using Clarithromycin or Azithromycin now. There is no long term side effectes, just need some time for guts to recover. Take lots of plain yogurt.

I was on the same med regiment and yes one of the side effects is the awful bitter taste...It is metalic tasting and it really was bad. I am sure you are over it and the H-P went away...I was on this med series the first of the year and I was so sick with that taste I had to reduce my work hours to cope. my child has always been a healthy eater ,lately he had acute bronchitis for which he was advised klaricid... since then he has not been eating anything , no eatables no milk .... i hav to force a little food into him, cuz i am afraid he'l deplete all his stores this way, he'l starve himself.. but thats only creating a negative food association for him.. i dont know what to do... really worried..

LOL) I tried Clarithromycin generic for a short time. When they cause negative side effects I want off them right away. Maybe I should be persevering regardless of the side effects. My other issue is, can't take minerals with some of these antibiotics, and it seems important to be on iron tabs and also calcium/magnesium. At last visit my lyme dr. said he would insert a pic line if I want.

I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Niacin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin.

I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.

Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
