ve heard Prevpac (which is a combination of 2 antibiotics amoxicillin and clarithromycin + an antiacid medicine) has some nasty side effects...Has anyone been on it? If so, what was your experience like? She is apprehensive about taking antibiotics, but her doctor wants her to heal the ulcer (which is sizable).

Hello all, For various reasons, I don't feel comfortable taking prednisone (sp?) or methotrexate. It's been a comparatively long time since I've had an abscess, thankfully, so I haven't been in a ton of pain in the last few months. I've been seeing Dr. Laya in Seattle (the doctor who is currently treating multiple GM cases), and while she's been very respectful of my decisions, she also would like me to try SOMETHING to see if we can kick this thing.

Erythromycin is usually not tolerated well, side effects are mostly on GI system. I do not know who is using this medication now, everyone is using Clarithromycin or Azithromycin now. There is no long term side effectes, just need some time for guts to recover. Take lots of plain yogurt.

I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems. by H. This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.

Clarithromycin (Biaxin in the US) is chemically similar to azithromycin (Zithromax), one of the standard drugs for several STDs. Although it has not been studied extensively against STDs, it undoubtedly is effective in either treating or preventing all the infections that respond to azithromycin. In the dose you were give, you were protected from chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), gonorrhea, and probably syphilis.

I started noticeing side effects at about 8pm, and they continued till this morning. I experienced a low grade headache, aches in my upper legs and lower back, some difficulty sleeping, and an awkward kind of dizziness (which I notice now seems to immediately follow my Riba dose). I just attended a course on the triple treatment that includes Victrelis. The PA who ran the course said that I wasn't likely to develope any new side affect with Victrelis but that it is likely to intensify the side effects I am having with just the Interferon & Ribavirin. Hello all-- It's been a long time since I posted. My GM started when I was seven months pregnant, in July 2010. It's been a year and five months and (can't believe I am typing this) I appear to be healed. Two days ago, I completed a 7-day course of antibiotic treatment (clarithromycin for Bartholin's abscess). Now I am experienciing stomach pains and nausea. Could this be an after effect of the antiobitcs? I don't get sick often, and haven't thrown up in years. All of this is quite disconcerting, but, is it normal?

Tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia reliably detect infect 3-4 days following acquisition which lead to infection.

She went to a doctor yesterday about her hair and the doctor told her that it was because of this medication (Lydrica) But I have seen all side effects and none talk about hair lost. And my mother does not want to leave this medication because its the only one that works for her burning feet. Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.

Clarithromycin alone was sufficient. That will have to end this thread. You can move on with confidence you have no STD or anything else from the 9/07 events that could ever harm you or your wife.
