Citalopram with alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram with alcohol

celexa

Avatar n tn You should ask your doctor. Most everywhere I've read says no. My daughter is taking escitalopram (Lexapro) which is related and asker her pretty liberal pdoc about drinking because she recently turned 21 and wanted to celebrate. Her pdoc said that a little bit (maybe one drink) would be ok if she sipped it because it would have a greater effect than without the Lex.
Avatar f tn s quite possible that the depression/anxiety is just caused by the alcohol. Citalopram would be unlikely to help alcohol-associated depression/anxiety much.
Avatar n tn ive been taking 20 mg of citalopram for about a month. I like to have a small 4 oz to 6 0Z of Moscato Wine now and then, I haven't had any wine since I started on the citalopram.
Avatar m tn Hi......it tells you right on the bottle to not mix this medication with alcohol....it's a very dangerous mix and can be deadly. You don't need the alcohol and it probably started as a way to self-medicate until you started the medication. Alcohol takes you on a slippery slope and never ends well, you can have fun without it. Please think about this...you've got a lot of living to do!!
Avatar m tn I have been to the doctors recently in trying to fix my mental health, After informing them that I was feeling depressed with anxiety, they gave me a prescription for citalopram. I could not get therapy for three or four months, so for some reason I didn't bother with it, hoping in time that the citalopram would get me back on my feet.
Avatar m tn s good to hear how well you have your life on track with your school but be more cautious with your alcohol. It sounds like you have worked very hard to get where you want to be but don't think for a minute alcohol cant get to you too. It has gotten to a lot of people who have worked harder and done better. You say you are not an alcoholic but you first got drunk when you were 14? Blacked out 10 times by the age of 21. Your posting with concerns in an alcoholism forum.
Avatar f tn Hey..just made this profile as after two years of suffering depression I finally got the courage to go to the doctors yesterday and he said I had servere depression and anxiety and prescribed me on Citalopram 20mg .... Does anyone else take this? I'm doing this all alone, not told family or friends and I'm scared of doing this on my own.. Any advice from anyone who is/has been on Citalopram please?
Avatar n tn i am currently taking 20mg citalopram, i suffer with server back problems and im usually prescribed naproxen 250mg which help with the pain. Am i able to take my naproxen with my citalopram? as i am currently lots of pain and unsure what can take.
Avatar m tn It may be anxiety which can be triggered by alcohol but also hereditary. I have had a lot of experience living with this as does most of the rest of my family. I have tried other medications and I have found that Lexapro is a very good drug to help you get control of it. So use extreme discretion if you choose to keep increasing your dosage of Celexa but personally I recommend you talk to your doctor about discontinuing the drug completely and asking about Lexapro.
Avatar f tn I quit drinking alcohol over 2 years ago. I started on an antidepressant, Citalopram 20mg daily, and Ambien 5 mg. daily. I started in college and I am having some of the best times (I'm 54). I have been very successful, Presidential HOnor roll, difficult classes, etc. I have been on these pills for almost 2 years. The citalopram has a disclosure that it can cause sleepiness. My older brother said when he took Ambien it made him lose his memory. I am starting to struggle with forgetfulness.
Avatar f tn t recommend you do it, it is my own personal experience and everyone is different and can react differently but if you really about to drink alcohol with your Effexor please do it with moderation and drink some water along and use light beer.
Avatar m tn a bit of a long story but a few weeks ago my doctor put me on citalopram again due to stress. i was taking 20mgs a day for 9 days then stoped due to the side effects i have while taking them 1.unable to ejaculate when having sex with my wife 2.dry mouth i think the term is cotton mouth also the feeling of tight buring lips but the lips look fine 3.
Avatar f tn Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine. What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?
Avatar m tn What exposure risk did you have? Anal or vaginal and was it protected sex?
Avatar n tn Well, the wine and the AD's don't mix. That's why you're up now. Not only does the alcohol counteract the Citalopram it will cause it to do the opposite and make you even more depressed and possibly suicidal. Alcohol is a depressive on it's own. Get the thyroid checked first before you do anything else.
Avatar m tn so after 2 years of citalopram (40mg/day for one year and 20mg/day for another), and feeling ok with my life i disappeared to stop taking it, i asked my psychiatrist and she said ok. soo september 2012 i stopped.so till december 2012, i was felling ok and then it stared i was feeling i bit depressed in the beginning, did not want to do thing, i was feeling tired most of the time.and as the time gone by i stared feeling worse and worse.
Avatar f tn Mixing alcohol with any of these type of meds is dangerous. But everyone I know has 1 or 2 with no problem.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
718427 tn?1230219137 First of all you absolutely musn't turn to alcohol or drugs as a form of self-medicating, that really isn't going to help and will in fact make you worse. Secondly - with all due respect to our NHS Doctors, you need to be seen by a psychiatrist for a diagnosis of Bipolar. I expect your Dr is going through due process and it's great that you are seeing her on a weekly basis.
Avatar m tn Data from randomised clinical trials consistently show better efficacy with escitalopram than with citalopram, including higher rates of response and remission, and faster time to symptom relief. CONCLUSION: The R-enantiomer present in citalopram counteracts the activity of the S-enantiomer, thereby providing a possible basis for the pharmacological and clinical differences observed between citalopram and escitalopram.
Avatar n tn s concern may come from the fact that the use of an SSRI (citalopram is one) with aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) or other drugs that affect bleeding may increase the likelihood of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. A pain medication such as vicodin which is usually prescribed by dentists, contains acetaminophen which is not a NSAID and does not effect ones bleeding rate. Your dentist may need a course in pharmaceuticals.
1397822 tn?1294279534 Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Certain sleep disorders and peripheral nerve disorders due to diabetes or hypothyroidism can also be the cause. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
1255563 tn?1289427231 That was fun to google -- lots of porn there. This appears to be a pharmaceutical product combining three medications for cold and cough. The antihistamine part apparently can be sedating, as so many medications are, but as it's a side effect and you can't take too much of it, I'd probably give this a pass. I'd try some melatonin 1mg and see if that helps.
Avatar f tn Hi there...I take Wellbutrin XL (300 mg extended release bupropion) and no I didn't gain weight on it. I have been on differing doses for over 2 years. Also, no loss of sex drive if that is important to you which is a common side effect of most of the other medications used for anxiety.
