Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram overdose symptoms

celexa

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 9. I have been on Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro and now Citalopram for 16 years. At this point the citalopram doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have increased my dosage to 80mg a day and have added xanax about .5 mg 2 to 3 times a day about 1 month ago. I am very depressed and I'm worried about forgetting things. I'm worried about getting alheizmers disease. I need to go to see a neurologist and have some tests done.
1767754 tn?1313873884 Did these symptoms start after you started taking citalopram or before? And did you get any testing done at the ENTs? I ask, because I'm on 10 mg a day of citalopram and recently went through eng/vertigo testing. It came back positive for bppv, but the doc also said it showed some CNS stuff. I wondered if this was the case for you or for anyone else taking citalopram--if it can cause nerve stuff.
769503 tn?1238496321 I have never, persoanlly, taken citalopram, but there are plenty of folks here who have and hopefully they will respond with their experiences with this med. Most of us with an anxiety/panic disorder are "wary" of side effects. But bear in mind that we are all different and your son may not experience any, or if he does, he may find that they are bearable.
Avatar f tn It is not at all likely your problem is due to citalopram. With Citalopram (Celexa), experts estimate that it can take up to 10-14 days for the drug to fully leave the body. So there has been none of that medicine for longer than 4.5 years. On the other hand, the indications for this medicine are in a population with high anxiety, hypocondria, and axiety greater than the general population. I would susggest you ask the neurologist to refer you to a neuro-ophthalmologist for evaluation.
695983 tn?1242774124 If you been on the meds for a while then you are getting ill, chances are it's not the med. Have you been on other meds in this class before? Citalopram is a good drug and the side effects are pretty minimal for most. I would get a full check up to make sure you rule out bladder/kidneys infections. Anxiety can cause tummy troubles, I've had the trots from anxiety in the past, and I've had peed more from that as well.
Avatar f tn s now been 4 weeks since I took my last citalopram and nothing has changed. How long can the side effects from the citalopram affect the Wellbutrin?
1131131 tn?1275108488 I had the same problem with Citalopram (Celaxa). The same symptoms after 2 doses of 10mg. The shaking was so bad I had trouble talking (stuttering), and suicidal thoughts. My doctor took me off them immediatley. I am not talking any meds and it took 5 days for the symptoms to go down to being manageable. I am on Prilosec which I believe interacted with this drug. The doc said no but I found on wikipedia it states ....
Avatar n tn , Symptom onset is usually rapid, often occurring within minutes after self-poisoning or a change in medication. Serotonin syndrome encompasses a wide range of clinical findings. Mild symptoms may only consist of tachycardia, shivering, diaphoresis (sweating), mydriasis (dilated pupils), myoclonus (intermittent tremor or twitching), as well as overresponsive reflexes.
Avatar n tn It's worth mentioning that these symptoms may not be the result of Citalopram but rather anxiety.
Avatar f tn Consult a neurologist for investigation of these symptoms. Multiple sclerosis has multiple symptoms and signs and is a diagnosis of exclusion. The symptoms of multiple sclerosis are loss of balance, muscle spasms, numbness in any area, problems with walking and coordination, tremors in one or more arms and legs.
Avatar f tn I just started taking Citalopram would that cause a numbness in my left arm? I just started taking it for Panic attacks. My doctor checked my heart and blood work and everything was good. I was freaking out thinking signs of stroke but I know it could not be that was wondering if that is a side affect and how long it would take to not happen?
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
365714 tn?1292199108 Fear, worry, anger, frustration, emotional outburst, self-harm, stress, and joyful have been added to the mood tracker in the symptoms section. Citalopram has been added to the Treatments section. Thanks for the suggestion!
732401 tn?1231613448 I was just prescribed CITALOPRAM 10mg once a day for my anxiety. I am scared to take it due to the side effects and I think once I take it my partying days are over, but I really need it. This is my first time taking meds for anxiety. Is there anyone out there who has had success with this drug and what should I expect?
Avatar n tn I took Celexa for a few months then went off. I had horrible withdrawl type symptoms for about 3 weeks. After that I was fine! Hang in there, it will get better.

Avatar n tn Hi, I've been suffering with some problems with anxiety for a long time and more recently they have led me to depression. Months back before I started really feeling the depression my doctor had me try out 20 mg's of citalopram. I was on it for three months and really didn't feel a difference in myself, so I decided to go off them. I did have some trouble withdrawing as it was quite the pain in the ***.
Avatar n tn Are you still taking citalopram? I suggest that you discuss your concerns with the physician who prescribed citalopram and determine if an alternative would be indicated. Also, if you are still experiencing symptoms and an MRI of the cervical spine was not performed, it may be worthwhile performing to evaluate for other possibilities such as transverse myelitis. Additional testing, such as a spinal tap, may also be recommended.
1265681 tn?1270103020 I started taking Citalopram because I have been having intense weird thoughts that make no sense intrusive even. I have been having them for three weeks straight with three days of none at all. I have a history of anxiety and panic attack. I have been taking this medication for four days and the thoughts are getting more frequent and worse is this normal? My ears are all so ringing non stop will the ringing go away?
Avatar m tn Hi, I was just prescribed Citalopram for some anxiety issues, I am currently taking Rhodiola to help with those issues, should I stop taking the Rhodiola and take the Citalopram exclusively or can/should I take both? Thanks!
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me Effexor XR and I got my prescription filled but before taking it I decided to do some research about this drug. The withdral and side affects scared me so I decided agains this drug. Then doctor priscribed me Citalopram and I've been taking it since. I have been taking citalopram 20mg a day for about 3 months. At the time of my visits to the doctor I had an insurance that covered my drugs, now I don't have my insurance any longer.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Citalopram (antidepressent) for years now, 40mg daily. The depressive mood comes and goes! But I wonder if I stop taking it gradually will there be withdrawal symptoms? Is there dependency on this medicine? I was thinking for instance to decrease it 5mg every two weeks or a month.
558156 tn?1217727396 Overdose symptoms are depressed respitory system, you basically stop breathing, dizzy spells to the point where you feel as though you are passing out, blurry vision. OD dosages are certainly unique to each individual and based on tolerance levels. But I dont think 15mg of ocycodone are going to throw you into an od status.
Avatar f tn I just joined. I have been reading many post about Citalopram and I see many abbreviations that I cannot figure out. Can someone please let me know what the following mean? tx, sx, np, CBT I was sick with H1N1 and then hospitalized with Pnemonia in late Oct/early Nov. Pnemonia cleared up but I was still sleeping 20 hours a day and having hot flashes, tingling. Did a slew of tests (chest x-ray, VQscan, blood work (CBC, Thyroid, sed rate, etc) all came back okay.
