Avatar f tn I felt more anxious and felt like it made my chest feel funny making it harder for me to breathe. My mother has a prescription for Valium 5mg and she told my to take half of one of her pills which I did and I feel like that helped me better. My questions are: Has anyone felt their anxiety to get worse when taking xanax? and Do you prefer or think Valium works better than Xanax?
Avatar f tn This guy was old school and we went with Valium 10mg 3 times a day. That of course worked great and two months later I tapered off and got through my situation. I have found other ways to get in trouble but life is like that. I'd say if you want to try celexa you should be ok but keep an eye on yourself and have you friends watch out for you and have them tell you if you start acting peculiar.
Avatar f tn First, I'd like to give you a bit of a background on me. I've been struggling with depression and since I was a senior in high school. I was hospitalized for a week my senior year because I wanted to kill myself. I recently completed my sophomore year of college. Last summer I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I am in a long distance relationship. He lives in GA and we've been together for a little over a month.
Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
648439 tn?1225058862 Is it a process of elimination I have to go through. At the moment I am depressed and anxious, starting on Citalopram - if this is not the right AD for me, or if it is really my thyroid, if if I really need an anti anxiety as well. It seems like it could be along drawn out process but as I am not a medical expert, how do I best manage to ensure I am getting the best care and resolving issues in the shortest possible time?
Avatar f tn Hi, all - I've been absent from the boards for a while, but now I've been dealing w/ my 'new' meds for a few months. I'm on Citalopram (10 mg) and Valium (2 mg daily, 3 if I need the extra at night), in addition to BP meds (atenolol and lisinopril, and a baby aspirin.). I've been seeing a psychiatrist now for about 7 months, and because I'm pretty sensitive to the meds, she has been very good about taking things slow.
Avatar f tn Anyways told my doc about panic attacks before and he prescribed 20mg citalopram i havent collected them yet and wasnt planning on it but now my panic and anxiety is so bad i cant carry on with uni like this. The thought of taking them scares me though, in addition to reading all the side effects a pill affecting my brain chemistry is worrying :-/ and i need to be able to carry on with school I dont have time off!!! Nobody knows im even having these problems...
Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Medhelp please can some one help I suffer with posttraumatic stress dissorder I am suffering with bad anxiety , i have just been taken off diazapam for the anxiety and things have gotten a lot worse.I was on Prozac and Citalopram for anxiety and depression which i had to be taken off due to allergic reactions.
Avatar n tn Like the comment above some anti depressants suit some people and not others. If you can cope with it, give the Zoloft time to get into your system, as you will feel worse before you feel better. As you know it can take up to 6-8 weeks before anti depressants make us feel better. If you really cannot tolerate the side effects, then talk to your doctor. I did well on Zoloft, but Prozac was really bad for me with bad side effects. I have side effects with others too.
Avatar f tn i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds
Avatar f tn Hi, guys - I've been taking 5 mg of Citalopram (Celexa) for just over a week. My doctor started me at that dose and said I probably would not feel anything because it was so low - it was just to get me 'used' to it, as I was very afraid of taking meds. I'm also taking 2mg Valium, half in the am. and half at night. I take the Celexa in the am. At first, I felt nothing - was like huh? This rocks - I don't feel it.
Avatar m tn Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.
Avatar n tn For treating depression there is a drug called mirtazapine (also called Zispin by one company) which having tried many different anti-depressants over the years I have found effective. It also is nowhere near as addictive as some other anti depressants or benzos (valium, xanax and all that crap). I'm not sure if it's available where you live but I can't recomend it highly enough.
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.

Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar m tn The doctors gave me 5 mgs of valium for a few weaks and then hesitated to continue prescribing me meds so i started to save what i had left. I feared becoming an addict and so I started to avoid taking any medications. I would take the pills every few days and they only 3mgs and eventualy 1.5 every two to three days. I didnt feel that ill and thought that the symptoms would just go away. But suddenly I hit rock bottom.
