Avatar f tn Yes. In fact, flying with a perforated eardrum should actually cause you less discomfort than if your eardrum is intact. Flying When a plane takes off, the pressure inside the cabin drops. This means that the air in your middle ear is at a higher pressure than the pressure inside the cabin. This does not usually cause a problem (whether your eardrum is perforated or not) because the air is forced down the eustachian tube, and the pressure evens out.

19731013 tn?1556048587 If this has been going on for so long, you really need to see a doctor. In general, wouldn't think a headphone could be that lodged to do anything. If you read through the following, you do not seem to have the symptoms of perforated eardrum. It does not sound like this is the case. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ruptured-eardrum/symptoms-causes/syc-20351879. Could you have had an abrasion inside your ear? I'm not sure.
Avatar f tn If an eardrum damage happens, can an ent see the damage even one week later?
Avatar m tn Hello, A detailed medical evaluation may be necessary for accurate diagnosis and management of your condition. The symptoms and prognosis vary in each individual. A perforated eardrum will usually heal by itself within 6-8 weeks. It is a skin-like structure and usually heals. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotic medicines if there is an infection or risk of infection developing in the middle ear when the eardrum is healing.
Avatar m tn jpg) , I am unsure if this is more wax buildup or a perforated ear drum, but I will not be using any more drops in that ear until I can be certain its not a perforated ear drum, she has no pain to touch, she is not complaining about pain, I don't see any redness or sign of inflammation or infection. She displayed zero symptoms and I am unsure if that is typical for a perforated ear drum. She can hear through that ear just fine as well.
Avatar m tn When I was a child I had tubes put in my ears due to frequent ear infections. The left tube ruptured my eardrum on that side, and it never healed. I've had tinnitus and hearing loss in that ear ever since, but I've learned to live with it. Fast forward to a week ago. I'd been having a wax buildup in the ear with the perforated ear drum. It was causing pain and blockage. I went to a walk-in clinic, the doctor I saw said there was a lot of wax and wanted to clean it out.
Avatar n tn I have had an ear infection for a week with a perforated eardrum. It came on really fast, and was pretty painful, so I went to urgent care and started antibiotics the day this started. I am wondering if it is normal for my ear to still be leaking clear/yellowish fluid after a week? It has improved, as it used to be bloody fluid. I just started a new job and my health inurance won't kick in for a month, so I'm paying out of pocket every time I see a health care professional.
Avatar f tn I just had tubes put in both ears 6 days ago. I got the flu and had both ears infected. The pressure and pain is gone, but now I'm talks by ina tunnel and my hearing is diminished. I think I'm draining, because when I use my ciprodex drops...I swear I taste it in the back of my throat. How lucky big is this gonna last? Will my hearing go back to normal? Will the tunnel in my head stop?
Avatar m tn my son has perforated eardrum and was given hydrocortisone otic drops.the first 6 days when i put the drops he seems fine but now on the seventh day when i put the drops he`s crying ,its like he`s feeling some burning sensation or maybe stinging..i dont know what he really feels..he`s only 21 mos.my question is ..is that normal..after 6 days of drops suddenly he feels uncomfortable?
Avatar f tn My eardrum was recently punctured due to a forceful irrigation in the doctor's office. His treatment includes my irrigating the ear once a day with peroxide and then a mixture of alcohol and vinegar. When I complained to him that it hurt if I did it with any force, he told me that was okay and I should "taste" it. All other info I read says that if one has a perforated eardrum, you should keep the ear canal dry. Do I need to get a second opinion? I would appreciate any advice.
Avatar n tn He has had multiple PE tube placement, one was did not fall out on its own and along with repeat infections has left a large hole in his left eardrum since age 2. The right ear was just examined by our ENT who found it to be severely retracted. He seemed very concerned with this and its potential for causing hearing loss and even a cholesteatoma. This is the first time I have heard him mention this eardrum retracting. He is examined about every 6 months.
Avatar m tn Could it be the eardrum?? How can I test on my own of the eardrum is perforated or not and if it is how long does it take to heal itself?? And the other ear which is swollen shut doesn't allow any fluid to come out of the ear...I feel all the fluid remains in the ear canal. What can I do to get it out the canal?? The doctor told me dont use any more cotton buds so I wont. I ask any expert to please help me out here.
Avatar m tn I understand that my eardrum is severely scared but not perforated. The sole reason for me having this surgery is to improve my hearing. I currently have no pain or other issues with my ears. In your opinion is this procedure excessive for what I want to achieve? My procedure is scheduled for March 20, 2008.

18383999 tn?1464446676 There is something wrong but I do not know whether it will heal by itself or whether I need antibiotics. From what I was reading, it seems like a have a perforated eardrum and it is possible that I damaged my eardrum because i do try to clean earwax often, but I thought it would have been healed by now, but it hasn't. There is no pain, but a bit of discomfort. I am wondering if I possibly have an ear infection or something else?
Avatar m tn On Monday morning I woke with an ear infection. I went to the doctor right away and was given Otic Edge, told to continue an antibiotic I was already on, to call if it wasn't felling better in a couple of days, and to schedule a recheck for a week later. Thursday, my ear still felt plugged, I was getting sharp pains, and ringing so I went back to the doctor. He said that there is alot of drainage in there and it kinda looked like swimmer's ear.
Avatar n tn This response was right on point. Perforated my eardrum doing the "Silly Salmon" while on vacation and could barely hear out of the affected ear. 5 days later and no improvement, I was ready to go to an ENT, but decided to Google this first. This was one of the only good responses that described what I was dealing with. I did nothing other than be patient and after 4 weeks my hearing was 50% better and after 8 weeks my hearing was 100%.
1729448 tn?1342094737 im pretty sure i have an infection too, but my doc seems to think im brainless. whats a perforated ear drum? ill google it lol. oh its basically a hole in the eardrum, i figured but wasnt sure. yeah thats what i was thinking somehow i hurt it so i didnt use anything. he gave me eardrops to numb my ear but they work very little and only for 30 mins and i can only use 3x a day and our insurance didn't cover them so it was $20.
Avatar m tn The common causes of ear discharge are eczema, otitis externa, otitis media, mastoiditis or a ruptured or perforated eardrum. An ear examination may be helpful for determining the correct cause of your symptoms. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. If the doctor suspects it to be an infection he may take a sample of the ear drainage and send it to a lab for examination and recommend anti-inflammatory or antibiotic medicines. Do write to me again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn For the last 3 weeks, I have hearing loss in left ear (right eardrum is perforated). I can feel fullness like water behind the eardrum. I constantly can hear my heartbeat to the point it keeps me awake. No pain and atibiotics (from Doctor) dont seem to work. Hearing is diminished about 40%. Opinion??
