Avatar n tn is it safe to take 125 mg of cipro each day for 6 months I was prescribed this for a UTI that keeps coming back. Also the pharmacy that filled the prescription gave me 250mg tablets and told me they aren't made in 125mg. and for me to break in half . But the info that comes with the meds says not to break.crush, or chew.
Avatar m tn Now I know that antibiotics can have side effects, but should I be concerned about these? I know that cipro is a pretty strong antibiotic and it does cure my uti symptoms when I take it. I'm wondering if I'm taking too much of it considering I'm only about 110-115lbs. Or maybe I need a different antibiotic? For all I know these side effects aren't even possible with cipro. Any input?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have problems with UTI and kidney infections on a regular basis. I have been on Cipro on and off since 1994. Cipro has allways worked very well for me. I have not experienced side effects from this drug. I have had other antibiotics prescribed to me that did have some negative side effects. In my case Sulfa drugs causes hives. From 1994 up to 2003, I used to come down with UTI and kidney infections that required hospitalizations with a frequency of about every 3 to 4 months.

548956 tn?1215474067 I went to see the doctor right away and he diagnosed gonorrhea. He prescribed me 2 doses of Cipro XR 1000mg to be taken twice a day. That was 4 days ago and I'm still feeling the same symptoms. Yesterday, I went to see my family doctor and he prescribed me 2 more doses of Cipro 750mg along with 7 doses of Doxycycline 100mg to be taken twice a day. So far I'm still having the symptoms.
Avatar n tn t know exactly what kind of drug Cipro is, but if it is an antibiotic, then yes it can decrease the effectiveness of birth control
Avatar f tn I was given Cipro for possible salmonella, and am concerned about all of the side effects I have been reading about. Is this a safe drug? I woke up with anxiety and some stiffness this morning, and am scared it's going to get worse. Please help.
Avatar f tn I'm on Norpace XR (anti-arrythmic) for Afib and I'm not supposed to take any of the antibiotics ending in "mycin" or Biaxin. Another post on this board said they landed in ICU after doing just that. It can cause a fatal heart rhythm. Another recent post suggested that one should double check with the doctor and/or pharmacist because there is some data that says some antibiotics are more likely to cause trouble than others.
Avatar m tn Yes Cipro can definately cause rythm issues. I cant remember where I read this but my doctor was going to give it to me until I showed him the info (that he did not have himself). So yes---In fact--since you brought it up--I have a new group called side effects of medications. Feel free to post your side effects there.
Avatar m tn I already have an appointment with the urologist in a couple of weeks but wanted to know if an std test would be accurate at this time just for peace of mind. Not sure how long to wait post finishing cipro for a chlamydia test to be accurate. I'm aware cipro wouldn't cure chlamydia. Also, I was tested for HIV back in april and it was no reactive so I'm not worried there.
Avatar m tn so i was diagnosed with a uti and prescribed ciprofloxacin i have to note that i have taken cipro once before and had no adverse effects that i can remember, i have now taken 3 cipro pills out of the 10 prescribed and i noticed some pain in the Achilles tendon area, but on the other hand i work in roofing and i was having to jump over some parapet walls on the roof and such i received my prescription for cipro 5/25/16 it is now 5/26/16 8:40 pm, as i said before the first time i took cipro
Avatar n tn In my NON-medical-professional opinion, I think he needs both antibiotics and surgery to close up the leak. Cipro is a very strong antibiotic, and many antibiotics now stay in the system for many days beyond the time they are discontinued. His surgeons may not want to put him through surgery depending on the general state of your father's health right now. Many times these leaks will heal and seal up on their own given a little time.
Avatar m tn new diagnosis - prostatitis. Doc gave me cipro and doxy 8 days with no result. Bactrim for 10 days, no result. As I live in Africa, I went to Portugal to get a second opinion, and the doctor gave me levo for 20 days; no result. Afterwards tried another uru, and he told it was all about the food I was I taking, had a huge diet lost 7 kilos, no result.
Avatar n tn s possible that you may have skewed the bacterial count and type in your GI tract with the antibiotic use - and Cipro and flagyl are two of the big offenders, but not the only ones. I don't know where you're from, but pick up some probiotics and use them. You may have to be on them for several months to start to make some changes, but do it. Some decent brands are Culturelle, Digestive Advantage-IBS and FloraQ.
Avatar n tn If someone has a history of UTI's and has no health insurance, why won't a doctor give a patient a refill? Why do I have to pay anywhere between $100 - $200 to go to the bathroom in a cup to confirm what I already know is true because I have had UTI's many times before. At a desperate attempt, I brought all the empty bottles of cipro and other drugs prescribed for my past UTI's to show that this wasn't something I was making up. I hoped the Dr.
Avatar m tn t notice it until I got off the Cipro, when my body had to adjust to being off of the antibiotic. So my wife says your immune system is depressed after taking antibiotics, so maybe the spleen is working overtime now? Just have questions, I am not interested in going in for a battery of tests, if it will solve itself in time. Unless it gets worse.
Avatar m tn I was having testicular pain 7 weeks ago and the doctor suspected i was having a UTI he prescribe me 7 day 500mh cipro twice a day antibiotic treatment. How during the course of it , i have difficulty in breathing and had dey theoat and mouth which i thought should be the normal side effects of the medication. However after completing the course of the drug , i felt nerve pain on my eyes , thighs , groin area , legs , arms. And muscles weakness.
443434 tn?1255891233 About the only good thing that can be said of ciprofloxacin therapy is that it is better than losing life or limb to an infection. Typically cipro is used as an antibiotic of last resort--the last, best hope before amputation or death. It is a very powerful antibiotic but it also has some pretty ugly side effects. Why haven't we heard from those people who took cipro and didn't have any visual problems? Perhaps we only hear about the coincidences that might occur purely by chance.
Avatar m tn They gave me ciprofloxacin for an antibiotic and I had never taken it before. When I took the 3rd dose (500mg per dose), I had the worst diarrhea ever so I decided to stop the antibiotics. At the 7 day, my diarrhea returned and I took ultra carbon but it didn't work. So far, I had never taken any probiotics. Any advice?
Avatar n tn Had you been exercising at the gym non stop and got the muscle soreness when taking the cipro, then yes, I would have suspected that may have been a side effect from the cipro. Whilst you are ill with an infection and on an antibiotic, you should not be doing strenuous exercises anyway. You should give your body time to heal and take things easy. Also by exercising you may have been further spreading the bacteria around your system.
