isn't doxycycline a better drug for prostatitis and UTIs? I've tried cipro for 3 days then 7 days but it didn't cure the shooting pain and discomfort in my pelvis.
Was diagnosed with acute prostatitis. Took cipro for 3 weeks. Just before cipro ended I ejaculated and it burned. Symptoms have subsided with heavy hydration, but the occassional irritation is still there and so is my swollen prostate? I'm also affraid to ejaculate as that may kick start the symptoms I'm failry convinced this is not an STD, but would like your input.
Now 5-6 days into medication cipro seems to be helping a bit. I tried masturbation today to test the waters and now I feel worse. I really don't feel it as much the moment I wake up in the morning and it seems to be more noticeable as day progresses.
My Questions:
1. Since this was a high risk encounter, should I be retested for above STDs?
2. Does this sound like Prostatitis? Or what could it be?
2a. I heard prostatitis is hard to cure is that true?
After my internist examined me and took a culture he gave me the phone # to a local urology practice, I immediately

About a month later I started to have significant irritation with my prostate, increased frequency, and signs of bladder infection. Dr prescribed cipro 500 mg 2X daily for 10 days, based on previous prostaititis. Symptoms eased a little, but still had frequency issues, slight discomfort in pubic area, irritated meatus. Through this whole period, I have had ZERO discharge (no discharge for my wife either). My wife has had some bladder discomfort, and increased urinary frequency.

I had a risky encounter in late april, started feeling symptoms in mid-late may (slight clear discharge, urethra itching, frequent urination). In June I felt pain in the perenium/rectum and I finally went to see a dr. I had taken flagyl thinking I probably had trick......but when I didn't get better, I went in to see the dr.
You mention "I" am faithful, do your suspect your wife as unfaithful?
I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with Epididymitis and a cyst as well. He gave me antibiotics (Cipro for a week) and sent me home. Symptoms didn't improve so I was sent to a urologist who told me to "Not worry about it". He also told me that I had HPV, and I had to get a few warts removed. Eventually I was sent to a real doctor who checked my prostate and diagnosed me with Prostatitis. He gave me 6 weeks of Cipro.
Went to the urologist again. Tested all stds with a swab again after 3 months + hiv bloodtest - all negative. Gave me cipro for 30 days. After completing treatment the discharge remained. Went to the urologist again. Tested again + Bloodtest - nothing. Gave me azithromycin for 5 days - nothing changed.
I'm really desperate at this point. What can it be?
Hi, I am a 49 year old male. For about 2 years now I have been having prostate issues. The symptoms vary in their severity but here they are. I urinate about 20 -25 times a day including 3-4 during bedtime hours. My urine can get very yellow a lot of the time and urination is painful quite often. The tip of my penis gets very sensitive sometimes and I have pain in my perinium and anus .
I did have a prostate exam which is why I was put on the antibiotics. The Fam Prac MD thought my prostate was mildly enlarged. I will be done with my Cipro in about a week. I was also getting some relief in the scrotal area by applying anti-fungal creams that are otc for jock itch or athletes foot. Like I have stated, nothing has completely cleared.

I think that's obvious from my reply above. You could have been tested any time more than 2 days after your last sexual exposure with the partner you are concerned about. However, I do believe any testing is a waste of money. The chance of gonorrhea from a few episodes of oral sex is very low, and the chance of gonorrhea without symptoms is even lower. The odds that both unlikely events happened to you is too low to warrant testing. But it's your money; feel free.
1) Does this diagnosis sound correct? Should I push for a digital rectal exam or any more tests to confirm or is this a straight forward diagnosis?
2) What is the success rate for cipro for these types of infections? What are the most commonly reported side effects that you hear? What increases the absorption of the antibiotic into the prostate?
3) Is it safe/advisable to take cipro with propecia and marijuana? Can propecia or marijuana alter the effectiveness of cipro?

It did not work and I took ceftriaxone and azithromycin which appeared to get rid of the GC, but I still had lingering symptoms (prostatitis)
I returned to the US and I was tested negative for G/C. My doc put me on Cipro for 2 weeks for prostatitis and urged me to wait and see, so I will give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.
I had prostatitis in the past but my question is how did i contract it? I went to my gp and given cipro for 500mg 1x12hours
For 4 weeks. I went to the the the clinic got a negative result its been 3 weeks now. I suffer pain in the perinium and pain when i ejaculate.
I dont no the cause of it but if its an infection can i pass it on to someone else even though ive been on cipro for 3 weeks and also the problem is in the perinium.
Three months later I had acute prostitutes. Cipro therapy seemed to stop symptoms. Now three months more lately my PSA is 7.8! I am on Cipro again and will get a PSA in three weeks. If I am elevated my urologist will probably want to do another biopsy. What is the likely diagnosis? Am I just having recurring prostitutes? What is the likelihood of Prostate Cancer with a normal biopsy a year ago and intermittent high and normal PSA?
I have seen a doctor about this twice and was on cipro for a month and doxycycline for a month (cipro in March, doxy in May), neither of which have cured the problem (my symptoms are minor now, but still present). Also, while on cipro, I developed a white coating on my tongue that really hasn't gone away since. It just seems whiter than usual and brushing doesn't wipe it out entirely (worried it could be thrush?).
8 days later,the symptoms got worse,i went to the doctor again,he checked my prostate, said it would be the regular prostate problem,so he gave me a prescription of 15 days Cipro, but for making sure it is not infected by Chlamydia and Gonorrhea ,i tested my urine and blood and did a urine culture,even did a swab test. Again,all result came back negative.
I have had all types of xrays, prostate exams and everything has been negative. I used doxy for 4 weeks, didnt work for me either. I'm starting to wonder if this infection is actually indeed due to sex? Doesnt always have to be. Heavy lifting and extraneous exercise can result in tract infections and things of that nature.
I started taking a healthy prostate vitamin and it seems to help more than antibiotics. Some of them are really expensive but I believe they work when antibiotics wont.
The next day, significant prostate pain and increasing urethral discomfort. Went to ER, prescribed Cipro 2x day (250mg each) for 10 days and 1g Zithromax. Symptoms resolved in 48 hours but now still on Cipro and 6 days after Zithromax and pain has returned to urethra as bad as before but now no real discomfort in prostate.
What's next? What do I possibly have?
Is what I have contagious?
