Common Questions and Answers about Celebrex for migraines

celebrex

Avatar m tn I have been advised to take Celebrex or Topamax for headaches. Which treats headaches/migraines better? Which has had more success?
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have been taking 900 mg/day Neurontin for a back injury for the last 6 months. I was on other meds, Celebrex, Skelaxin and am off of all except Neurontin. I have tapered the Neurontin to 500mg/day. This question is related to side effects that may be due to Neurontin or maybe my migraines. When I was on a higher dose of Neurontin I was getting almost daily visual disturbances in both eyes that looked like what my migraine auras look like but those are in one eye and are followed by a headache.
Avatar f tn I am 23 and have been suffering from intense migraines for about 12 years. Seizuresfor about 3 years, but this isn't about the seizures.

Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks for the update. Indeed, with a normal MRI result, the diagnosis of primary headaches such as migraine increases. If the medications prescribed are not working, you my need to inform your doctor for proper management. You can also ask for another doctor's opinion to ease any anxiety in the diagnosis. There are many migraine variants today and it is best that you discuss the specific type of migraine with your doctor. Both abortive and preventive medications may help.
Avatar n tn Fosamax is safe for liver patients. Celebrex in the short term (for a couple of weeks) should not be harmful. However, it is not something he wants me on for any length of time.
Avatar m tn I took Celebrex for several years for joint pain due to Crohn's. I keep having bowel obstructions so I went to a new dr. He told me to stop taking the Celebrex and start taking a tylenol everyday. I have not had any more obstructions but I do still have some joint pain.
Avatar f tn I have been prescibed Celebrex for osteoarthris pain. Can it be taken every day for long term management of arthritis.
237152 tn?1206651036 My pain dortor gave it too me too and I had alot of success with it
370181 tn?1595629445 My mom who is also suffering from chronic pain due to a back injury she sustained from a bad fall eight years ago, was also prescribed Celebrex by a surgeon who is an expert in pain management. Well, my mom was on the Celebrex for only two days. She felt very ill on the Celebrex and went off the Celebrex by herself as it was making her symptoms worse. Yes, I've also heard that Celebrex has cardiac risks, didn't know about the g i bleeding.
Avatar m tn I have had optical migraines as well as the typical headachey migraines but never for that long of a period. My neurologist is at Rush in Chicago and she said that you can have some inflammation of the nerves in the head and it not show up on an MRI...but if you have contrast, it should show any lesions and can even show small spots on the brain produced from migraines.
Avatar f tn i would speak to your doctor about going on a preventative for migraines then. sanomigran (antihistoman), propanolol (betablocker) or amitryline (antidepressant) or topiramate (anti-convulsant) are all common prophylaxis.
Avatar f tn In May I was started on Flexiril, Cymablta and Celebrex for fibro dx. I have put on 20lbs since then. I am gaining over 5 lbs a month. No matter what I do I continue to gain. If I eat healthy...eat high protein...eat junk....and don't eat, I continue to gain. I am at a loss. I have weaned off the Cymbalta (didn't think it was doing much and don't want to be on any extra meds that aren't working). I was started on Savella yesterday too.
Avatar f tn t know what was wrong with me so his guess was MIGRAINES. He wrote me a prescription and discharged me. I tried the medicine for a week to no avail. I then saw a neurologist. She said since there was some fluid in my left ear, I should go see an ENT to rule out ear problems and if they couldn't figure it out, to go back and see her and she would order an MRI. I saw the ENT and had a hearing test and a vestibular test, both were normal.
Avatar f tn true, I was on celebrex for a short time and it did not work for me. I thought it was making even more edgy and did not help with my muscle & joint pain. I think just like everything else, it is different for different people. Good luck & welcome to the forum.
Avatar m tn Hello, I need a bit of help sorting out what is going on here. I have quite a while to wait to get in to a neuro-muscular specialist and was referred from a neurologist.
Avatar m tn The tests you need to ask for are Free T3 and Free T4, which are actual thyroid hormones and TSH which is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones. Many doctors will only want to order the TSH - insist on the Free T3 and Free T4, as well.
Avatar n tn I never had high blood sugar but recently after a 10 day course of celebrex for an inflamed shoulder muscle my fasting blood sugar shot up to 137. I read that celebrex has this side effect. Is it reversible?
Avatar f tn No, it would be unheard of for Celebrex to damage your heart valve. Celebrex and similar drugs do cause high blood pressure in many individuals, though. You might have gone forever and not known about the heart valve if you had not gotten high blood pressure from the Celebrex. Follow whatever advice the cardiologist gave you, and don't worry.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was on 300mg Neurontin for 4 years and then the 900 mg for 6 months. It is like an aura or wavy moving lines that last about a half hour and are in each eye. Has anyone had this from Neurontin (or Celebrex). I am tapering off of Neurontin for that reason and would like your opinion as to how to get off of it will less side effects. I am at 500mg now per day. I am now trying 100mg per week as I get ill feeling, insomnia and anxiety. What do you all normally do?
Avatar f tn Trying a new drug for pain... Celebrex. I was on Diamox but could not tolerate it as it caused severe kidney PAIN. So, my PCP wants me to try Celebrex (3 days on, 3 days off). Anyone have any experience/knowledge of this med and, if so, how did you fare with it?
Avatar f tn I am calm, not nervous and my life is even upsidedown at the moment! I am on beta blockers, have been for over 20 years for migraines. I also take xanax to sleep and had to lower my dose of that when i lowered the thyroid dose as the dose i was on then knocked me out a lot easier and left me groggy in the morning. I will feel the way I did when I woke up today, all day and into the night when I go to bed.
Avatar f tn This might not be a potential case for lawsuit. These are the known side effects of celebrex, which may be more pronounced in some individuals. Though celebrex carries the risk of gastritis and GI ulceration, like other NSAIDS; the incidence is slightly lower as compared to others. Symptom of GI reflux can be aggravated by it. Rhythm abnormalities (early de-polarisation/ re-polarisation) may not be related to celebrex use.
Avatar n tn I just got this diagnosed and the gave me a steroid shot in the inflammed area ...the dr also gave me a script for celebrex to keep inflammation down.....i really don't feel like taking these pills because of side effects....would it really be bad for the healing if i don't take them?
1667344 tn?1303311751 Can I take two celebrex pills? They are 200mg. I still have some aches and it has been all ready about 4 hours ago I took 200mg.
Avatar f tn Regular doc says I need to take celebrex for arthritis pain. I know it is a NSAID so I am scared of it. He thinks it is not a problem with hep c, but he is not a Hep C doc. What is the scoop on it? Any one taking it with Hep C?
