Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint.
Avatar f tn Pellegrini-Stieda Syndrome, a condition of pain at the origin of the medial collateral ligament on the end of the thigh bone, usually occurs when there is pain over a calcium deposit seen in this area. It is best that you discus the results with your attending physician for proper evaluation. Additional diagnostic tests such as MRI may indeed help. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Hi, at this age the cause of knee pain are arthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, bursitis etc. As you don't have history of recent trauma, it is unlikely to be ligament or meniscus tear. Investigations like MRI, blood tests like ESR, RF, ANA etc are done to find out causes related to autoimmune diseases. Try cold compression, crepe bandage and pain killers like diclofenac etc.
Avatar m tn I was advised with some physiotherapy exercise and the physiotherapist told that the noise in knee was due to weakening of knee muscles. Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Knee pain is a very common symptom which can occur due to a variety of causes like arthritis, fractures, ligament tears, meniscal tears, chondromalacia, sciatica etc. Proper evaluation will help in making diagnosis. An X-ray would help in revealing any fractures or ligament tears. With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use.
Avatar m tn The location of the knee pain can be a useful guide to the cause of pain. Pain on the outer side of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint.

Avatar n tn if it is on the inside side of your hip it could be the tendon snapping over one of the boney parts of a bone, or if its the outside it could be the band snapping. its not always accompanied by pain, but mine is whenever i sprint or the day after exercise. there are some stretches you could try to try to stretch out the tendons, or physical therapy is reccomended. if neither of these are effected after a good amount of time there surgery you can do.
Avatar n tn Last thursday I had my right leg crossed over my left with my knee leaning against the edge of my desk while sitting. A coworker thought it would be funny to hit my knee. They hit me really hard right on the Vastus Medalius Muscle. It was originally just a little sore but over the next day or so i didn't feel any pain. Over the weekend I started to get more pain below my knee right on the Pes Anserinus Bursa that makes it painful to walk and run alot.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Cyst at the back of the knee is usually Baker’s cyst. This causes pain in the knee. You can consider the removal of this cyst and see if pain subsides. All the best.
Avatar m tn Ok, so the end of last academic year, i had this bad pain that was right above the knee, not in the joint, but above it, but after a while it went away, and i was happy. A few weeks ago it came back, i went to the doctor, and he diagnosed it as a chronic muscle strain. They took x rays and stuff, and it all showed up perfect. They just today took x rays of my hips. The pain has not gone away, btw i was put on crutches and this leg brace thing that only lets me bend 90 degrees.

Avatar n tn It is also called as a trick knee. The major problem is osteoarthritis of the knee joint where there are changes in the smooth cartilage or through damage to the ligaments. This can be caused by an injured or torn knee ligament, such as a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee. The condition can be treated either by wearing a knee brace or surgery. Trauma, or a sudden turn or twist to the knee can cause a ligament to give out. Go for an MRI and follow up with your orthopedician.

Avatar m tn When I landed, i felt a sharp pain in the middle of my left knee. I did not feel any popping, just a very sharp pain right behidn the patella. I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
Avatar f tn Find out the purpose of the surgery and how it relates to the diagnosis of your diagnosis. For example, is the procedure designed to relieve pain? Reduce symptoms? Improve function? What will rehabilitation be like? Can I expect pain managementt during rehab? Make sure you understand the anatomy of the area being surgically modified. Your surgeon may be able to draw a picture, show you a plastic model of the knee.
