Knee pain causes and diagnosis

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain causes and diagnosis

knee-pain

Avatar f tn So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. My doctor has made no official diagnosis but asked me to bend and flex my knee and leg this way and that. She said that my knee joint is a bit loose. I'm getting an x ray to find out and physio but I'm still waiting on both of these letters to get to me. I'll use the codeine and I have laxatives at home. I've been drinking more water lately so a bit more might help.
1961313 tn?1326290364 I have problems with my knees, just general stiffness-but one day I had to get down on my right knee and the pain was extreme,it wasn't necessarily in the knee but to the right side of the knee,it felt like the skin was splitting into,I look and the skin looked fine,so I don't know if it's the tendon or the muscle what ever it is,is very painful,in fact I can't get down on my knees any longer

Avatar m tn Pain on the outer side of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. Avatar m tn I have a pain that starts in my left buttocks and goes down to my knee and my foot making it numb for a certain time. This only happens when I am standing for a long time or when I perhaps walk for a while and it eases when I get back to sitting position. Please advise what this is and what I need to do.
Avatar f tn ve had 3 hip implants and the pain from the hip causes pain ALL the way down my leg. If you stop and think about it your entire leg is connected to your knee and therefore it WILL affect your entire leg. I hope that you will give us the missing information such as your EXACT diagnosis and like I said we might be able to be of more help to you. :) Looking forward to your update.........
Avatar f tn Does there feel like there is any extra heat coming from the knee? Do you see any redness in the area? There are several potential causes of throbbing knee pain (see private message), and it is important to get a medical professional's diagnostic work-up to try to properly figure out the cause so proper treatment can be prescribed.
Avatar m tn If I am in need of passing stool and it so happens that it is not convenient and therefore delay doing so chances are that I will experience stomach discomfort, accompanied with pain at times, then sweating profusely and then faint and if still standing fall down badly. I get relief, even though very slowly, when i sit on a toilet basin to pass stool which is oftenly of a running nature. The first time this happened i was aged 15 years when i collapsed during a school parade.
Avatar m tn It is a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and tactile allodynia(pain even on touching). If there is any deep seated pain in knee then causes of knee pain need to be ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn I can actually HEAR it crunching and popping! It causes quite a bit of pain every now and then, some days worse than others. Sometimes it almost even feels numb around the kneecap. I went to see a doctor about it who swore it wasn't my bone but rather the tissue, just by feeling my knee. I swear it IS my knee but I'm not the professional so whatever.
Avatar f tn t think this has to do with my previous back problems because he did a physical exam on me and my leg moved without pain. But he did not move my knee. Just the leg up and down, side-ways. So he ordered an MRI on ONLY my knee. I will get those results back on the 23rd. I know what sciatic pain it like. It goes from the buttocks down to the foot. But mine does not start in the buttocks, but in the knee. At the same time I get the impression that it could be my back.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 14 years old and i have had pain in my knees, hips, and now on the side of my right shin. I started having pain in my left knee in December of '08. Then my right knee started hurting. Then both of my hips. MY hips are the ones that hurt the most now, not so much my knees anymore. I've been in ballet for 9 yrs also. I've had x-rays (sunrise, and lateral?), blood tests for arthritis but nothing came up.
Avatar m tn I recently had an MRI of my knee and lower back.. However I don't know what the diagnosis means. If any one can answer it would be greatly appreciated.. My knee diagnosis is"there is a deep fissuring in the central patellar cartilage that is full thickness.. There is underlying reactive change in the patella..." My back diagnosis is "at L5 S1 there is a mild diffuse disc buldge without central or forminal stenosis..
Avatar m tn Nerve impingement at L5-S1 can cause pain in the knees, although a clinical exam is needed to make an accurate diagnosis. Other causes of referred knee pain are injury to the hip joint and damage to the ligaments and meniscus at the knee joint. Joint fusion may alleviate your symptoms. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I can sit without pain I can stand without pain,I can bend my leg without pain, I can do straight leg lifts without pain. It is just walking that causes the pain and burning. I have been using ice since I first injured it and have been taking ibuprofen and saw my family Doc today and she said it is mildly swollen and is sending me for x-ray tomorrow and then to see my Ortho Doc asap. Any Ideas as to what I mught have done??? Thanks ...my Doc just thinks it might be sparined ....
Avatar f tn Generally weakness of the inner thigh muscles and tightness of the outer thigh muscles causes the knee cap to move from its place and cause knee pain and knee locking. This could have happened in your case if you have a localized muscle wasting only. Alternatively locking of knee (say due to torn piece of cartilage or bone figments) and knee pain could have caused a localized muscle atrophy in the thigh due to less use of the muscles.
325007 tn?1352560645 Since the surgery I have intermittent pain behind my knee. I believe it is the hamstring tendon. The pain is intense after kneeling or squatting. It goes away fairly quickly. What is the best treatment?

Avatar f tn Some are newer than others but the pain and weakness is consistent and consistently worse and worse. I have numbness on lower right side of my body, I fall down all the time and can not stand on one leg, or with both feet heel to toe. I just fall down.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. We appreciate your question and are sorry you have this ongoing situation. Knee pain is very common although you are young to have it on a chronic basis. Something to look into is patella tendonitis. That you have pain going up stairs is a sign of this type of issue. Here is some information about that to review. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/patellar-tendinitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20376113 This also continues to worsen over time.
Avatar f tn It hurts to extend and bend knee. It hurts to run but I can walk, bike and stair climb with little pain. I can pinpoint the spot where it hurts. I am a runner.
Avatar n tn What type of pain is this that hits the right knee abruptly even like lightning so swift, and travels from the knee straight through the thigh nerve and/or tissues, shooting straight to the joint of the thigh and groins that lasts at least one to two minutes. Sometime the pain is so severe even after it has left I can still feel the pressure it leaves behind.
Avatar f tn Your GP sounds like someone you need to replace with a better doctor. What you need is an orthopedic surgeon, who will get you X-rays and an MRI (your GP could have started this process, but it doesn't sound like he was at all interested in actually treating you). You might have a condition called patella tendinitis, which does respond well to patella knee bands, but you might have something else going on. If you had bad posture all these years that will have made it worse.
