Avatar f tn Hi, I recently took my 12 year old son to the pediatrician for what I thought was Osgood Schlatter Disease. I had googled his symptoms and was sure this is what he has. But the pediatrician said that Osgood Schlatter is more involved near the ligament below the knee that connects to the libia and that my son's was a bony growth on his bone just below this area. His symptoms are pain with actitivies, pain at night, and sometimes he limps.
Avatar m tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include patellar dislocation, chondromalacia patellae, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, iliotibial band syndrome, osgood schlatter disease, bone growths/ tumours, nerve impingement/ compression, fractures, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci etc; just to name a few. I would suggest consulting an orthopedician for an evaluation. After a cause is diagnosed, it can be managed accordingly.
3201003 tn?1345349318 Possibilities that may need to be considered include growing pains, injuries, patellar dislocation, osteochondritis, Osgood schlatter disease etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had osgood-schlatter in my right knee. I have had it since I was in 6th grade. I played a lot of sports so I'm sure it was associated with that. I'm sure it is possible though even if you don't play sports. Right below the knee cap I have a knot that is about the size of a walnut. It has always caused some discomfort but I have never really felt anything in the shin area. I was even able to be in the Marine Corps.
Avatar m tn There are a few possibilities to the cause of the pain like patellar dislocation, chondromalacia patellae, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, iliotibial band syndrome, osgood-schlatter disease, bone growths/ tumours, nerve impingement/ pressure fractures, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci etc; just to name a few. Without a detailed history, physical examination and probably a few tests it would be difficult to point out a single cause.
Avatar m tn Hi there! Well, without an evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of the knee pain. Possibilities that may need to be considered include patellar dislocation, chondromalacia patellae, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, iliotibial band syndrome, osgood schlatter disease, bone growths/ tumours, nerve impingement/ compression, fractures, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci etc; just to name a few.

Avatar f tn He has had pain in both his knees for a few weeks now. The pain has gradually got worse, and he says it is under his knee cap and when pressing the back of his leg in the knee area, it is very painful. He has seen the GP but he has just given him ibuprofen, and told us to keep an eye on him! The other day he could not walk because of the pain and I am very worried about what this could be? The pain is constant, and the ibuprofen is just masking this a little. Can anyone advise? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I have knee pain in my right knee when I kneel down on it.About a year ago the same knee for some reason unknown to me got very swollen & had to use crutches for about a week. Anyway when I kneel down it is like kneeling on a tack. Then it has a sensation of a rug burn to the touch. After about five times of this happening I looked more closely. On the right lower outer edge of knee cap it gets a swell pocket. It does not swell up the entire knee just this oval like shaped pocket.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?

Avatar m tn Knee issues could be caused due to a few reasons such as patellar dislocation, chondromalacia, fractures, injuries to the internal ligaments/ menisci, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, iliotibial band syndrome, osgood-schlatter disease, bone growths/ tumours, nerve injuries/ impingement etc. I would suggest an evaluation by an experienced orthopedician at this time for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. 203342 tn?1328737207 Hello, Three possibilities are there.First and foremost is chondromalacia patellae. This is a softening of the cartilage that lines the back of the kneecap.Diagnopsed by physical examination and MRI knee.Blood tests and x-rays are unhelpful since cartilage does not show up on x-rays. Other possibilities are of tibial apophysitis, or Osgood-Schlatter lesion and Jumper's knee (irritation and inflammation of the patellar tendon). Without clinical examination, diagnosis is tough.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately she has one developed osgood-schlatter, a painful knee condition that is related to sports and growth spurts, and thatsvlimiting long walks. The mainstays of treatment are just NSAIDs and stretches. I doubt that she has a significant medical condition causing weight gain since she has had this big belly and appetite literally since birth.
Avatar n tn My 5 years old daughter has severe pain(cramp like) behind the knee for 4-6 seconds, then relieve for 3 secs & then repeat the same scenario few times. All this will be over within about 2mins the most. What I did is to lie her down & push her toes toward her body with her leg flat on the couch. Just like how I do if there is leg cramps. At the same time, I'll put some camphor oil around the knee area & gently rub to keep warm.
Panda Thank you for responding. Every Monday and Wednesday, I take "U-jam" and every Tuesday and Thursday, I take "Body Combat" Both classes are at 24 Hour Fitness. U-jam is a hip-hop class and Body Combat is a mixed martial arts class. They are group x classes and are great cardio that focus on HIIT (high intensity interval training). I used to take martial arts when I was in high school, so Body Combat and Turbo Kickboxing are right up my alley, next to any type of dance.
Avatar m tn If it is hard and if you are young it could be Osgood-Schlatters disease / Syndrome but there could other reasons as well. Have it looked into.
Avatar m tn I have tons of knee pain!!! I also have pain in my feet (similar to plantar faciitis) and hip flexors. My knees hurt the most, though. I often felt this knee pain even as a child. (We called it "growing pains." Also, beginning at age 12 or so I would feel achey knee pain if I stood for a couple hours at a time.) My knees are also hyper-extended.
Avatar f tn He was complaining of leg pain around the knee for a few days I thought he was pulling my leg after a day of school took him for an X-ray where they found he has osgood shlatters was reassured it was very common in sporty children and he will grow out of it was referred to the leads fracture clinic for a routine check up where the doctor said he has 2 things shown up on xray 1-osgood shlatters 2- a shadow in his feumer which he thinks is Benin (the word think is what worries me for he mentioned
Avatar f tn Osgood-Schlatter. This pain occurs in both knees, is localized to the front part of the knee below the kneecap, and gets worse with activity like running and jumping. It occurs because of rapid bone growth, stretching of the muscles, and the resulting tension on the joints. It’s not dangerous and he’ll grow out of it. Make sure he’s stretching daily and rests from sports if he’s having a lot of pain. Icing and ibuprofen may help. Headaches are also very common during puberty.
545408 tn?1219873125 The doctor said he would get chewed out if he sent us to a specialist and told me to stop obsessing about his knee. I us very upset and told him I am not one of those types of parents who don't care about my child! He said he is knocked kneed and the pain is nothing serious since everything cam back ok. He said since he is active and tests are clear he is ok. He said he does not doubt the pain but that it is not due to anything serious.
