Common Questions and Answers about Cardizem la medication

tiazac

Avatar n tn EKG taken by cardiologist as precation was normal. Cardiologist is having me drop Cardizem LA (180 mg) for Carvedilol (6.25mg 2x per day). Any reason to think this change could trigger arythmia or something else really kooky? I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped.
Avatar n tn Both Cardizem and Cardizem CD (a controlled release form of the drug) and there is Cardizem LA that is an extended release, once a day medication. Cardizem CD and Cardizem also used to treat high blood pressure. Thanks for your question. If you have any followup questions or comments you are welcome to respond. take care.
Avatar f tn I was just put on 180 mg. of Cardizem LA once a day and was curious if anyone else here was taking this medication? If so, what side effects do or did you have? So far (only the first day) I haven't had any. Also, did the medication work for you as far as lowering your blood pressure?
Avatar n tn I don't remember having frequent hot flashes with Verapamil - but the doctor switched me to Cardizem as the Verapamil wasn't helping my arrythmia. Sorry - I can't relate - I'm 69 and still have hot flashes like once every 3 months.
Avatar f tn I know PVC means premature ventricular contraction, but is this something to worry about? I went to see my cardio doctor yesterday and he raised my medication (Cardizem LA) from 180 mg. to 240 mg. a day. Every time I see him he does an EKG and shows me the irregular heartbeats. To me it looks totally different than a normal EKG and I don't understand why since January this has been happening to me.
Avatar f tn My doctor just changed my medication to cardiazem does anyone know about this med?
Avatar m tn However, if your wife has an enlarged left atrium, then the odds of this being successful are much lower than if her LA was normal (I also have an enlarged LA, 5.5 cm dia., and have been told that it isn't worth trying in my case). If your wife is in continuous/persistent afib and, even with verapimil and a pacemaker , experiences symptoms like strong annoying palpitations, dizziness, being tired all the time then another type of ablation is considered.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
Avatar n tn I tried metoprol and diovan hct and although by bp is in the normal range my heart rate is elevated unless I continue on the cardizem cd. Is there another medication that I can discuss with my cardiologist to replace the cardizem cd that will keep my heart rate in the normal range? I feel I've got to withdraw from the cardizem as the side effects seem to be progressing the longer I use the medication.
976897 tn?1379167602 So, I am curious. I still have 29 of the 30 Cardizem LA left over. After taking just one I started experiencing some of the worst and very different chest pains ever. It took 12 hours for these to begin to subside. I honestly thought I was going to have to go to the ER. I never took another one and told my doctor that I wanted to go back and try the Norvasc. The Norvasc did begin to help after a couple of weeks, adn the spasms started to get less severe and less in occurrences.
Avatar m tn I was put on cardizem 240mg.It worked nice until last february.I was under tremondous pressure and anxiaty for the possibility of loosing my job.Suddenly i was hit by a storm of Afib episode that raced my heart to 200b/m and lasted for 11 minutes.I was kept at the hospital for 4 days .I was put on tikosyn 500,pradaxa,cardizem. After i was discharged,i had sudden short of breath, extreem fatigue and mild palpitation.
Avatar f tn She has not felt good basically the whole time since she started Cardizem and asked her cardiologist this month if she could stop the Cardizem. He told her to just stop taking it cold turkey and that they would have to work on regulating her blood pressure. How do you feel about stopping this medication after 17 yrs cold turkey? Will there be any serious complications. She is nervous but also wants to get off the cardizem and stay on the toperol.
Avatar f tn Recently I have started having heart palpatations of 215 that last for 15 minutes. This has only happened twice and they were 3 months apart. My cardiologist has put me on cardizem la 120 mg to see if that will keep my heart rate from becoming too high. I have had a heart cath, stress test, echocardiogram and every test that can be done has. Are my palpations of 215 coming from my anxiety disorder? What do I need to do if I have another attack?
233622 tn?1279334905 What med do they have you on..I tried Lyrica first three weeks ago with very little help. Now stopped and starting Tegretol..hopefully it will do the trick..Glad to hear yours is going well..That is great...
Avatar n tn I'm on Toprol XL, Cardizem, Benicar along with Lasix for HTN. I have a BUN of 32 (up from 24 a month ago) with a creatinine of 1.2. Can it be medication related? I am not overweight nor do I overuse salt, but am concerned about kidney failture.
Avatar n tn I posted a question previously about Flecainide and dyspnea, I have been on 100mg/2 day for about 5 or 6 weeks I guess. It's keeping me in rhythm and in fact I haven't had any PVCs that I know of. I'm also taking 240mg Cardizem, which I've taken for a long time. I am having a lot of trouble with shortness of breath. It may be a little better than it was but it isn't good. The other side effects have lessened except for vivid dreams, and I can put up with that.
Avatar f tn I had tachycardia and episodes of syncope where my bp would bottom out. I was on cardizem cd, vasotec and micardis at that time. My bp was hard to control and would often run high. My electrophysiologist added metoporol to my meds. He said he wanted to keep my heartrate between 40-70. Since that time my HR has ran mostly in 50-60s and at times in upper 40s. The last few weeks I noticed HR was staying in low 40s to low 50s. I feel great and have also enjoyed not having pvcs.
544531 tn?1221339601 I was just put on Cardizem LA (thinking maybe it's a similar med). Is it a calcium channel blocker? I also think Toprol was a beta-blocker? I'm not positive because I'm new to these BP medications, but if it was a beta-blocker I heard they should never be taken by someone that has Asthma. I wouldn't worry so much about the side effect warnings (like I should talk because I worry too), but try it and see how you react to it.
Avatar n tn I tried taking Cardizem and had to stop. I had been given Cardizem instead of Norvasc for heart spasms. It was the long lasting Cardizem. I suffered through 12 hours of awful chest pains. I went back to the Norvasc. It just works better for me.
Avatar f tn m about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check.
Avatar f tn In the mean time I used the nitro alot. Have they discussed this with you? I tried Cardizem LA and had some awful side effects. For 12 hours I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I had some very different chest pains after taking that pill. So I went back to using the Norvasc. It takes some time to get the right combination of meds. You just have to work with your doctor until you find the right thing.
237039 tn?1264258057 Not that site. I tried the Cardizem LA 360mg once and the side effects were miserable. I had terrible chest pains and skipped beats the full 24 hours. My heart felt bruised afterward. I haven't tried it again since. I went back to taking the Norvasc. I am just curious though, if the Raynauds is spastic in nature, could there be a connection. I think there could be, but then I am just wondering. My husband says that's dangerous! (For me to wonder.
765775 tn?1366024691 I take Cardizem CD 240 for my blood pressure. I have been on it for about 16 years. I have a slow resting heart rate to begin with as I was very athletic when I was younger. I was also an avid weightlifter. Anyway, I had ankle reconstruction surgery on 2/18/09 and have been confined to bedrest for quite sometime. I just started physical therapy and they are not doing anything except slight movement of my ankle right now.
