carb

Avatar f tn Whole grain cereal Fruit and yogurt Whole grain toast with peanut butter, fruit Hard boiled egg As long as you stay with complex carbs, which are those in whole grains, veggies, fruits, such as apples pears, etc.you should be okay. The complex carbs are the ones that provide fiber to keep you feeling fuller longer. Also be sure to get plenty of protein with every meal. Eggs and whole grains are excellent sources of protein, as is dairy.
Avatar n tn ll find fats, which come in good healthy ones and other not so healthy ones. Some high fat foods, such as fatty fish, won't be a weight gainer, while some lower fat foods, such as white flour, will be because of how quickly the body converts the latter into sugar and if not burned quickly stores as fat. I'd suggest you find some books on nutrition to get a basic understanding of food categories before you make a plan of action.
5747555 tn?1408727657 So I'm trying to loose weight - and trying to do something lower/better in carbs to stave off Type 2 diabetes. My doctor swears this will work. But -- where do fruits like grapes (nature's original portable snack food) fit? Are they good or bad. And if the goal is to cut carbs, then does that mean no more grapes, apples, etc? Any suggestions.
Avatar n tn s a really high sugar diet that causes it in animals, commercial food have just the carbs and proteins and fats that your cat need (the good ones, of course there are some brands that can damage pets). The truth is that cats need more protein that dogs, but they still need cabs, if he eats only proteins and low carbs and fats, he'll have ketosis...which can cause liver damage and if your cat is diabetic it will cause ketoacidosis that goes from vomiting to coma an death.
1085545 tn?1284042254 Anything high in fiber is better as it reduces the usable carbs. Soups are good. I eat eggs for breakfast with one piece of bread. There are sites that list the carbs of various foods like calorieking.
Avatar n tn Hello, there are good carbs and bad. The good ones are the veggies and fruits, the bad are the sugary ones such as cakes, bread, and doughnuts. Cut back on the bad and go moderately on the good, this will keep you healthy and your blood sugar fairly stable.
Avatar m tn to much to list, there is a class of food that is not good for a diabetic... carbohydrates (carbs) your body turns carbs to BG, period. that is what your body does with carbs.
Avatar f tn I think you should watch your carbs and try and get those numbers lower, it will only be better for you....no matter which list of "numbers" you look at as normal for a diabetic....you should strive for lower....however if they are within the numbers listed(which most doctors I know use for diabetics) then don't stress over it. Do your best. Exercise and watch those carbs. Learn to read labels. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Carbs are in bread, pasta, veggies, etc. They are everywhere and they are good for you, complex carbs.
Tbd You could basically eat any type of food you just want to watch your carbs my doctor told me 45 carbs for a meal and 15-20 carbs for a snack and try an limit your milk if you can and eat the servings
Avatar n tn Learn, understand, and apply why simple carbs should be avoided and why complex carbs should be increased in ones diet. Being prediabetic means you have a very good chance of reversing yourself back to normal. To do this one MUST adhere to lifestyle changes; proper nutrition, maintain proper body weight, and perform daily 30 minute physical exercise. Ignore one defeats the others.
Avatar f tn Belly fat is thought to be caused by an excess of simple carbs, such as sugar and white flour. If not burned quickly they store as fat, and the belly is the first place they are stored, which gives rise to the term beer belly -- alcohol is high is sugar and carbs. So along with exercise, the important thing is to eat foods you metabolize well and digest well and cut down on the ones that "stick," such as simple carbs and the wrong kinds of fat.
Avatar m tn preferably with NO carbs b/c many cats have allergies to carbs. for a list of carb free canned diets check out the site I gave above...on the right hand side of her column...BEST COMMERCIAL CANNED FOODS. if you are going to change the food also read on that site HOW TO TRANSITION from dry food to wet.....you have to do so slowly, most cats don't lke carb free cans b/c they sure don't taste as good without all the additives so it take a slow transition.
500923 tn?1210168927 Low carb diet - no bread - pasta - flour - limit whole grains - no sugar natural or artificial. Brown sugar Ok once in a while. Limit fruits high in sugar! Alcohol is sugar too. Limit milk products Maintain a high green veggie diet with lean "good" protein meats - hormone free! Nuts are good and yogart - I know it has milk - but it has many other supporting factors. It a tough change but you will adjust well and won't crave the other stuff after a while.
Avatar f tn Counting carbs can be done with radical protein diets such as Atkins, but the weight loss won't last. Remember that all vegetables are carbs, too. Different people require different diets. Avoiding grains, for example -- whole grains are actually fine, it's the simple carbs that are the problem. Permanent weight maintenance is more complicated than a fad diet. See a holistic nutritionist and figure out what suits you best -- might be a vegetarian diet high in grains.
798555 tn?1292787551 I,ve never had to count carbs. I was allways physically active and look like I'm in good shape - so I assumed I just burned carbs up, as I've never had weight chalanges. Even with hypothyroid I was lucky. I dont fit the diabetes 'type' from the outside, an eye opener. Makes one wonder about the chemicals modern man consumes in food, plastic ware ect. Two bannas everymorning for last 5 years, very convienient, good 'filler' and possasium, so thats bad? Bummer.
Avatar n tn Make a list of low glycemic foods and also a list of alkalizing foods and eat mainly from these 2 lists. Make sure you balance your intake with some good quality proteins.
Avatar n tn Portion control is what most of us find works best. Veggie carbs and most fruit carbs are better for you than cake or candy. Meats are essentially no carbs. Potatoes and rice are OK but in very small servings. I eat one salad a day and avoid dressings high in carbs. If I am going to be more active than normal, I may replace the salad with something with a low carb count. Diabetics that use insulin and increase their activity level find that they use less insulin.
Avatar f tn jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar n tn Fruit, which we think of as a healthy food is also high in carbs so you need to eat it in moderation as well. So all proteins are good, (meat, fish, cheese), and most vegetables are low carb. You can to go calorieking.com for a list of the nutrients in all common foods and packages also list carbs.
Avatar n tn If the drink has stevia why does it also have sugar? the 12gr of sugar is included in the 13gr of carbs so its not carbs "and" sugar its carbs "including" sugar. 12gr of sugar would raise my BG 50 points. I dont know what it would do to your BG.
Avatar n tn 80 to 100 upon waking is OK. The more physically active you are, the more carbs you need to eat. You cannot go without carbs or sugars completely. Read up on carbohydrates and learn which foods with carbs are actually good diabetics. Hint: popcorn is not on the good list, but it is not on the "never eat list" either. Most veggies and fruits are very good carbs for diabetics. (Not all!
