Avatar n tn It is possible, but you will need to make a big change to your diet. The amount of calories you would require to intake daily to lose that amount would be around 1000. But that can be dangerous, especially if your daily intake so far was around 2000+. Start of by calculating the amount of protein you require per day, cut out the carbohydrates and try to eat more healthy fats. You will still end up eating carbohydrates trough vegetables and fruit, but not trough bread, pasta etc.

Avatar f tn I would normally eat about 50 - 70 g of carbs per day. My blood sugars can be well controlled on this diet, without medication. In high glycaemic index foods, the carbohydrates are broken down very quickly, and have bigger impact on blood sugar than lower GI foods. Ie. beans and bagel. Bagel is high GI and will have more impact on blood sugar than beans, which are low GI - even considering they have the same amount of total carbs.
Avatar m tn a new study published in the journal Diabetes Care has confirmed that a handful or two of nuts per day could be the key to controlling your blood sugar and balancing your LDL-cholesterol levels. A team of researchers led by Dr. David Jenkins of the University of Toronto found that replacing some carbohydrates in a group of Type II diabetics' diets with two ounces of mixed nuts daily allowed them to have significantly better control over their blood-glucose levels.

Avatar m tn Fat is a powerful nutrient because it has more than double the amount of calories per gram, as compared to carbohydrates and protein. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are typically not stored as body fat and can be used by the body for energy. Monounsaturated fats include olive oil, egg yolks, avocados and nuts and seeds. Polyunsaturated fats are your omega-3, 6 and 9 fats, which are essential for overall health and wellness.
Avatar f tn Because whey protein is intended to be a source of protein and little else, such supplements contain very little carbohydrates, about 3 grams per serving. Weight gainers contain high levels of carbohydrates, as this helps increase the calorie content. A weight gainer may contain between 58 grams and 391 grams of carbohydrates per serving. In addition to providing calories, carbohydrates provide your body with energy. Not all carbohydrates are beneficial, and you should limit your sugar intake.
Avatar n tn t know amount of insulin per day, so I am not sure if I answered your question. I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar n tn Hi - I have a question for all of you metoprolol users...is it possible to gain weight on 12.5 mgs per day? :( I'm a very active 53 yo woman (cardio 60 min daily, weight training 4x a week, martial arts 3 x). How is it possible that I'm struggling to keep from gaining weight? I'm currently looking at my calorie intake and also the macro allocation, but one would think with all of the cardio, sparring and weigh training keeping the weight off would be easy!

Avatar f tn 15 grams of carbohydrates is equal to 1 carb count. Try to limit your carbs to 4 carbs or 60 grams per meal. And 2 carbs per snack. There are very good charts available online to help you guage the carbohydrates in fresh foods as well. Also try to eat at the same times daily. This will help keep your sugar levels stable and keep from putting a demand on your pancreas from binging because you skip meals or go long periods between eating.
