I have it set for 1200 cal 25%carb 30%fat 45%protein. I have had blood sugar issues but haven't been sticking with the program. I have been feeling crappy lately so I started tracking sugars again and it's not so great. I plan to got to the Dr. next week to have my a1c1 checked. It's been a while.

People who eat low carb with ultra high protein and low fat run into the gluconeogenesis problem, which is your body taking some of the ultra high protein intake and making sugar (glucose). This is why some people get high blood sugar and heart racing after drinking a large protein shake (with low carb and no fat). Eat fat with your proteins, like full fat yogurt.

More food = more weight. Do you do an insulin carb ratio for your mealtime bolus? This is the correct way to determine dose, not a set dose or a sliding scale. Determine your I:C ratio recognizing it might be different for different meals. Obviously what you eat matters.

Vegetables are carbohydrates, but it wouldn't be healthy do without them. What low carb really means, or should mean, is avoiding simple carbs, such as sugar and white flower. Most fruits as we think of them are high in sugar, though it's not as quick to metabolize into simple sugar as processed cane sugar.

It's duration of action is 3 - 5 hours, with most of the action in the first 2 hours. You need to work out a carb:insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein). An example: meal 1 protein shake with skim milk. meal 2 2 cups plain oatmeal a few egg whites and banana. meal 3 1 packet of albacore tuna with 2 cups of brown rice (mix in salsa or hot sauce.) meal 4 protein bar (i like met rx but there are many good ones.) meal 5 6-8 ounces of chicken and some greens. meal 6 protein shake with skin milk.
