Avatar n tn we bought the book at Barnes and Nobles for $7. It is our bible! It has just about everything in it.
2083449 tn?1381354708 The Stand, and 11/22/63 (fiction about Kennedy's assassination) I've read them both at least twice! I love most of Stephen King's work, but not all of it. Under the Dome was another good one! You guys may need to tell me to shut up. Cause I could go on and on forever!
Avatar m tn t given me what I am searching for, which is just carb counts on various foods, so we can effectively cook and count at home with more control of protein, fiber, and fat content that carry her bs levels with more stability. Any iPhone apps out there that do this well?
Avatar n tn What a diabetic needs to understand about food is that to accurately count the carbohydrates in the food is essential. If you need help figuring out carbs, Calorie King has an excellent book which lists carbs for most foods and restaurants. http://www.calorieking.com/shop/11-The-CalorieKing-Pocket-Calorie-Fat-Carbohydrate-Counter-2007-Edition.html They have a free lookup on their web site, as well as a free toolbar for your browser, where you can look up just about any food.
Avatar m tn Meaning for breakfastss, I only consume 6 grams of Carb, and at lunchs and dinners meals, I allow myself only 12 grams of Carb. These days I can buy such low-carb foods, made by the Tortilla Factory, tortillas with such low-carb at Wal-mart. This rule invented by Dr. Richard Bernstein, author of this book :Diabetes Solutions". You can log onto amazon .com to read reviews of this book. The rule is very SIMPLE: to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.
Avatar n tn I allow my son to eat what he wants (except for regular soda - unless low), however, we do our best to add up the carbs -sometimes it is hard to be completely accurate when eating out at a restaurant although we have a couple carb books. If your boyfriend does not have a carb book, he should get the Calorie King book. There is still guess work involved. We cannot always measure everything! either here (below) or ask his doc for one. http://www.calorieking.
Avatar f tn This can be done by carefully adjusting your insulin doses and combine with eating a low carb diet (the low carb will reduce your insulin requirements and thus also protect you from going too low or high). I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.
393986 tn?1303825975 Project "I HATE MS" BOOK, I am requesting trials and tribulations from everyone here on the forum. We want to write a book about it and get people in the world to really see MS for what it is and how it affects us. Even for those of us in Limbo. I am going to try to get some collaberations from the so called experts but want to really put our lifes experiences into a new light. I think that we as a whole can move the world with this.
Avatar f tn I'm just doing a book theme. Putting up some cute wall mounted book shelves, framing a few pages.
Avatar n tn this starts a vicious cycle of more insulin, more carbs and of course weight gain. You want to lower your carb intake as low as you can and lower your insulin dose accordingly. To do this you need to figure out your insulin:Carb ratio. Some doctors put their patients on set doses or sliding scales for their mealtime insulin and this also leads to weight gain. I recommend the book Using Insulin by John Walsh which teaches you to use insulin:carb ratios.
Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.
Avatar m tn Using Insulin is difficult for me to explain. what is needed is carb counting, with an Insulin/Carb ratio plus insulin/BG ratio.
398059 tn?1447945633 The words of Marthin Luther King Jr are those we should never forget. I have a beautiful book with his most famous quotes and speeches. It reminds me of the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller: First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn't a Catholic.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
Avatar f tn I have a book of names and the best i could pick are: Randy or Randie( a short name for Randall), Riley, Robbie, Royce( Son of the king), Ryan( little king).. And guess what Royce & Ryder are in the boys name not in the girls in my book. Hope you & ur hubby decide on one.
Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
976897 tn?1379167602 I looked up the starch diet when you first posted that you were doing it, and I couldn't understand how it could be great, but I trusted that you had researched it and didn't say anything. Now, I think maybe this starch diet just doesn't agree with you. For myself, I'm on board with the newer findings that healthy fats are good for you and that we eat too many grains. You might be interested in a book called Perfect Health Diet, by Paul Jaminet and Shou-Ching Jaminet.
Avatar n tn I have a book on it and your suppose to watch your carb inake...for every 14 grams of carbs you are suppose to have 7 grams of protein..and in a two hour period you arent suppose to have more than 30 carbs because your body will store what it doesnt use. There is a book called PCOS dietbook and it is really helpful, I got it from Amazon for 9.00.
Avatar f tn //atkins.com/Homepage.aspx Pay careful attention to your breath, your body odor, or urine if any starts to have a fruity sweet smell. This is the beginning of ketosis caused by the body switching from burning carbohydrates to only fat. It is telling you that your carb intake is way too low. Ketosis can be hard on your kidneys so don't eliminate carbs altogether.
973741 tn?1342342773 However, the latest approach is to take a much more aggressive approach to diet. NOT low fat, high carb any more, but instead low carb, moderate protein and enough fat for energy. This is the approach endorsed by Dr. Richard Berstein (Book: diabetes solutions, and U-tube lecture series "Bernstein Diabetes University") and also many who follow ketogenic or low carb way of eating.
