Avatar n tn I have had type 2 diabetes for 16 years and have always had trouble with my levels. An uncontrolable brittle diabetic my doc calld me. Playing defense taking 3 different types of insulin a day all day. Recently my doc changed my insulins to 1 toujeo but it is impartive that I take fast acting with every meal according to the carb count.I have no idea what I'm doing. And despite my efforts they still sky rocket after I eat.
Avatar n tn Here is another article on the benefits of counting carbs that may help you. We are working on developing more articles on carb counting as well! http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn My question is would Weight Watchers be a good diet for me go follow or the carb counting one i am on now ? I just found out i have to eat gluten free foods also this is why i am confused on which diet i should follow i am use to the carb counting .
Avatar f tn d suggest getting a carb-counter booklet at a bookstore -- in the section of diet books -- many calorie counting books contain carb amounts too. My number one recommendation is: don't allow diabetes to change your son's life. We look at it as an inconveniece (to say the least,) but it hasn't changed anything my son would normally do. He's a lifeguard and does Tour de France style bike racing.
Avatar f tn Consume high-potassium foods such as fruits (specifically, avocados, apricots, bananas, dates, nectarines, oranges, raisins), vegetables (specifically artichokes, parsnips, spinach, tomatoes, yams), whole grains, molasses, clams, cod, halibut, yogurt, and nuts. Low potassium can lead to problems with your muscles and heart. Too much potassium can lead to irregular heartbeats. Too much magnesium, on the other hand, will give you loose bowels.
193609 tn?1292180293 Well I think a low carb diet is anywhere from 25-50 carbs a day. I think depending on your weight now and height and with your activity level you have to check out what amount you need to start losing weight.
973741 tn?1342342773 I'm wondering about this topic. Does counting your carbs help prevent diabetes? An essential thing to do if you are worried about diabetes? What are the best ways to do this?

Avatar m tn My doctor recently said i need to get my head around the carb counting a little better as the hba1c is high. Can anybody tell me the best way of putting back on weight??
Avatar n tn Dear schmoop, i am not a doctor just another diabetic trying to help from my experiences. i only a Minimed 508 pump, which is an old pump by today's standards. i have never see an electronic carb counter and i belong to the ADA and get their magazin Diabetes Forecast and have never see one advertised there, though that doesn't mean they aren't available. i do my carb counting from books and after a while you get to remember your favorite foods and the carbs per serving.
Avatar m tn Using Insulin is difficult for me to explain. what is needed is carb counting, with an Insulin/Carb ratio plus insulin/BG ratio.
Avatar n tn Does that website have a listing of foods with CHO's only? It looks like they have alot of stuff including a hefty membership fee. I'm always sorry to see that. What I want is a list that only has carb counts of many many foods. I have a book or two with that but I want it online, ready for me to cut and paste and make it customized for my twin daughters.

349463 tn?1333571576 The highest concentration of women to have twins was in this tiny village where they eat yams every day. So these doctors all did a study about yams having an effect on the fertility in women. Anyone else hear about this? Seems pretty silly. Doesn't mean I'm not trying it, just saying it seems silly. I think at this point if you told me wearing my underware on my head would get me pregnant I would give it a shot at least once!
Avatar f tn Your way ahead of me, you basicly count the first day of your cycle as CD1 and you keep counting, so if your cycle lasted 7days taht would be CD7. Basicly its like counting the days all the way til your next cycle. My cycle is 29-30 days. So you should be approaching ovulation soon, woo hoooo.
Avatar f tn Someone on this website suggested I eat yams to get pregnant and she was pregnant with twins. I did eat yams fater my IVF an dnow I am pregnant with triplets.
405855 tn?1217100767 t believe there is so much discrepancy about yams. Goodness, there must be several varieties of yams. Like tomatoes. You can by an heirloom, a hot house, a cherry, a grape tomato but they are all tomatoes. I've grown yams, lived on a farm most of my life and eatin' yams most of my life. The ones that are orange inside are called yams here in the Northwest. I have read the same thing about yams, but didn't read the benefit is exclusive to African yams.
790669 tn?1465189099 I thought it was funny to. Now I wished I LOVED yams. lol. Congrats Angela, I hope you have a healthy and happy 9 months! :D SunWhorshiper, it hads to do with progesterone? Hmm! I should be eating sweet potatoes then because my progesterone was low last time they checked it and put me on those nasty vaginal capsuls. Yuck! I'd much rather choke down a sweet potatoe. lol. Also, my mother loves the yams like you like the sweet potatoes, with marshmellow on them.
Avatar n tn He did say that as long as I was taking consistent readings, and was able to do the carb counting, that I could adjust the bolus to match my readings, trying to figure out the carb ratio by trying to maintain a difference of no more than plus/minus 2 mmol/L between before meal and after.
Avatar n tn Hi Lurius, Net carbs are getting lots of attention these days because of all the Atkins dieters, but it's actually long been an important concept for diabetics who do carbohydrate "counting" and then try to match our insulin to the amount of carbos we're eating. Foods that have carbos typically have a combination of carbos that we can metabolize (and therefore will affect our BG) and those that we can't (fiber). We subtract fiber from total carbs to get net carbs.
Avatar f tn Is it better to eat a low Carb diet or a low calorie diet..Isn't stuck between the 2,I need to lose72 lbs..n I don't want it to take forever to lose it.I also expertise 6 days a week for 1 1/2 hrs.Just confused about the two. Also I'M on 3 medications that cause weight gain. And I'M wondering as long as I do overeat will I still gain weight from these meds. Thanks Brenda!!
Avatar n tn If you would like to follow me I eat low carb I eat 30 carbs a day bc I had JD and my dad died at 53 from complication to diabetes so if I eat 30 or less carbs a day my A1C is 5.3 when I eat carbs it's about a 8 so that's my happy number.
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.
