Things to avoid would be grains, fruits, corn, potatoes, etc. This is really hard to do because it leaves out a lot of the sugary things in your diet, that overall, people seem to crave. However, carbs aren't all bad. A lot of the energy we get for the day comes from carbs, which makes them pretty important. Too many carbs can be a problem.

Avatar f tn My advice is to try to get a variety of food throughout the day... My carb numbers are 15g - 30g breakfast (it is hard for your body to deal with carbs in the morning so you may want to go lower until you know how much you can take) 30g - 40g for both lunch and dinner... Eat lots of proteins they will keep you fuller for longer and lots of low carb veggies (broccoli, spinach, stuff like that avoid corn it is high in carbs) Honestly, if she is dictating your whole diet I would question it!!!

Avatar m tn Some people deduct the amount fibre in the carbs and then use that value for counting how many carbs they eat (this is net carbs). Other people just count total carbs. i guess it depends how much detail you want to go into. Fibre should have little impact on blood sugar as by definition it cannot be digested. For weight and blood sugar management controlling how much carbs you eat each day is an essential part of management.

Avatar f tn I usually do at lunch or dinner. I also buy the fruit cups that are sugar free for a "free snack" when I'm craving some fruit. It's my understanding you can subsitute some high fiber grams for carb grams, but I'm unsure how to do the calculations so I don't bother. If you like bread Nature's own has some low cal, low carb whole wheat with fiber,white and honey wheat bread.

I find that finding some low carb treats that I can enjoy helps a lot with sticking with the plan. My weakness is actually chocolate. So, I buy the very dark chocolate (around 85% cocoa or higher). This is so rich and satisfying that just 1 piece is usually enough. There are plenty of great recipes for low carb foods these days.
Avatar f tn First, you IBS is probably not tied to these foods. Also, not to be a nit-picker, but corn is a grain, not a vegetable, and zucchini is a fruit, also not a vegetable. The importance of this is in both your IBS and the nutrients you might not be getting by not eating true vegetables. Corn can be a troublesome food for many, as it's a common allergen and also contains a lot of sugar. Carrots are great cooked and raw -- cooked they have more carotenoids, raw more fiber.

Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.

Avatar n tn Does that website have a listing of foods with CHO's only? It looks like they have alot of stuff including a hefty membership fee. I'm always sorry to see that. What I want is a list that only has carb counts of many many foods. I have a book or two with that but I want it online, ready for me to cut and paste and make it customized for my twin daughters.
Avatar f tn The best diet for a person with diabetes is low carb, moderate protein and high (healthy) fats. Healthy fats are those that are naturally occurring and 'traditional' / unprocessed and primarily include animal fats, nut oils, butter etc. Vegetable oils are considered unhealthy. Cooking method is still important and slow lower temperature cooking is better than frying. You could google Weston price foundation - if you want a starting point to learn about the b enefits of fat.
