Common Questions and Answers about Carb counting gestational diabetes

carb

Avatar f tn Hopefully you wont have to b on insulin like me but in the beginning my doctor put me on that diet until i could meet with the dietician. Its still very similar to that diet just incorporated the carb counting with it. I recently was just allowed to add fruit n my meal bc fruit can b very very tricky especially if you are on insulin. Good luck its not as hard as it seems once you get it.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.
4322328 tn?1353998038 who has gestational diabetes like me? im 30weeks. can you give me some advice on what to eat that will not shoot up my sugar.
1533382 tn?1357962152 I'm 31weeks 3 days pregnant and last week I found out I have gestational diabetes. I've been on a 'carb counting' diet ever since and have to check my sugar levels 4 times a day keeping it in a certain range. I've noticed over my week of this diet that anything that's actually a full meal, be it mostly protein and no carbs or under my carb limits spikes my levels.
Avatar n tn ll go away after pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can cause your child to be a little on the bigger side, but that doesn't happen to everyone.

Avatar m tn Hello all. I'm new here and have a question. My daughter Laura is diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She's currently on medications, but cannot lower blood sugar in the mornings. I'm afraid she will get type 2 diabetes. What is the best way (and natural, of course) to treat gestational diabetes?
1666434 tn?1325262350 Because of this, I was informed by my doctor I have a greater risk of acquiring gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. My question is how or what can I do to prevent this? What changes can I make in the food I eat to avoid this? I don't have a history of diabetes on my side of the family and have never had an issue with this, but I do want to take whatever preventative measures I can to decrease my risk. Appreciate anyone's help or experience.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 weeks and I had my first consultation today after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I haven't had the best time emotionally with this pregnancy (been feeling down due to stretch marks, fatigue, acne prone skin, lots of pains, etc..) but I'm determined to make the best of this situation not only for me but for my baby. I'm totally fine with having to take my blood sugar 6 times a day but I'm so thrown off by this diet.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have gestational diabetes and I am freaking out....I'm only 17w2d and I feel like the worst mtb on the planet. Generally I don't eat amazingly, but I THOUGHT I was doing pretty well, note I was not diabetic prior to conception. Now my kitchen looks like a death trap for my baby boy and I'm terrified anything I eat is poison for him. I need a list of foods that are okay to have but so much that I'm finding is the food I was already eating...
Avatar f tn Just found out that I have gestational diabetes, I'm freaking out dose any one else have gestational diabetes. I can't get in so see my doctor until Monday at 9 and feel like I need to start doing something now.
Avatar f tn Today I am in the lab to have my blood drawn to see if I have gestational diabetes. My baby is measuring huge so my midwife had me skip right to the three hour test, instead of taking the one hour test. I am a super conscious eater, I eat raw till 4 and a healthy vegan dinner after 4. So I am not used to having sugar like this. I get lots of sugar with my fruit but that has fiber and after fasting for this test ans drinking that drink, I feel terrible.
Avatar f tn Anyone with gestational diabetes? What is your diet? Did you have to cut out all carbs?
Avatar n tn 19 weeks prego and i have gestational diabetes my sugar keeps getting low even if i have a sugary snack am i the only one what should i do
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a fairly common precursor for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. So yes, please treat gestational diabetes as an advance warning. This means attention to diet (lower carb is usually helpful), weight, activity, and the need for regular monitoring (hba1c testing every 6 - 12 months is a great idea). Be aware of diabetes symptoms and if in doubt test.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had gestational diabetes?? Took the 1 hour glucose tolerance test and they called and said i have to come back for the three hour i go on Wednesday. grrrrr so frustrated, scared, nervous because i don't want to be doing any harm to my baby. 5536886 tn?1455827346 Many of us who have gestational diabetes will get cleared of diabetes after pregnancy, but should you still be careful what you eat after? Did you know that there is a chance that you will develop type 2 diabetes later in life after having gestational diabetes? Do you have a game plan for how to help manage your health after pregnancy so you don't have to deal with a type 2 diagnosis later?
429164 tn?1321558847 Anyone else been diagnosed with gestational diabetes? This is my 2nd pregnancy and I wasn't offered the glucose tolerance test with my first. I am only borderline but finding it a tad difficult to gauge my carb and sugar intake. Getting a little nervous about risks tho and being induced-they're currently saying they'll induce me a week early.
Avatar f tn I just found out my test came back positive for gestational diabetes. You ladies who have had it, do you have any advice and what foods to eat and not to eat. I'm freaking out a bit any advice would be great!
