Carb counting for a apple

Common Questions and Answers about Carb counting for a apple

carb

Avatar m tn when you eat a carb (yes fruits are carbs) eat it with a protein. An apple with a cheese stick or peanut butter. Find KIND bars at walmart. They are almost like eating a candy bar (I buy the dark chocolate ones) only 17g of carbs and only like 6 ingredients in them. A very good snack. I eat every two to three hours. The nutritionist said to try to stay around 45g of carbs for each meal and 15-20g for snacks depending on how many you eat each day. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Using Insulin is difficult for me to explain. what is needed is carb counting, with an Insulin/Carb ratio plus insulin/BG ratio.
Tbd Avoid all sweet fruits and all starchy vegetables. Even a medium sized apple has about 20g of carbs. Small amounts of berries are often considered to be low carb. Green leafy vegetables and low carb vegetables are fine. This will include lettuce, cabbage, spinach, asian and western greens, celery, cucumber, tomato, capsicum, green beans, okra, egg plant, and others. Hope this helps.
1290943 tn?1272093764 I am able to eat one slice of good bread for toast. You can also find lower carb breads. Eggs are about the best for the morning as for many of us it is the time we can eat the least carbs. Has she figured out her insulin:carb ratios? Mine are definitely lower in the morning (mine are 1:7, 1:9 and 1:18). Btw this is the Type 2 forum!

Avatar n tn Does that website have a listing of foods with CHO's only? It looks like they have alot of stuff including a hefty membership fee. I'm always sorry to see that. What I want is a list that only has carb counts of many many foods. I have a book or two with that but I want it online, ready for me to cut and paste and make it customized for my twin daughters.
Avatar m tn My question is would Weight Watchers be a good diet for me go follow or the carb counting one i am on now ? I just found out i have to eat gluten free foods also this is why i am confused on which diet i should follow i am use to the carb counting .
Avatar f tn d suggest getting a carb-counter booklet at a bookstore -- in the section of diet books -- many calorie counting books contain carb amounts too. My number one recommendation is: don't allow diabetes to change your son's life. We look at it as an inconveniece (to say the least,) but it hasn't changed anything my son would normally do. He's a lifeguard and does Tour de France style bike racing.
1451080 tn?1438527660 You are in luck, there are many online websites that advertise and sell low-carb foods. If you are looking for a source for low-card foods, go to www.Netrition.com. This is the largest nutritional site online. Also, go to Google and Bing and type in Low-Carb Foods, and many listings appear.
Avatar f tn This is because wheat has and carb called amylopectin type A which is only found in wheat. This is a super carb. Most foods have type b and c.
Avatar n tn If you cannot get these drugs, you may want to try a low carb diet (low carb, moderate protein, and fat for balance of energy). Some people find this way of eating helps both blood sugar control and weight management.
193609 tn?1292180293 ve never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs. I lost my weight by exercising and counting calories. Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out.
17593698 tn?1458185817 Snacks are always a difficult thing, you now have to consider how every little thing effects your blood sugar. What works for me are snacks that are low in carbs and packed with protein and fat (mostly protein). Nuts are a good choice, just look for lower sodium options. Jerky and other dried meats are good as well. Also consider fresh fruit but beware tropical fruits (Mango, pineapple, papaya, etc.) these are particularly heavy on sugar relative to size.
Avatar m tn Hi, with regards to eating fruit, I would say that it depends on your blood sugar response. If your blood sugar stays in target range when you eat an apple, or a portion of an apple, then you are fine. If i makes you go high, then best to avoid fruits. Alternative fruits such as berries and kiwi fruit tend to have less blood glucose impact compared to other sweet fruits. Size of serving also makes a difference. Hope this helps.
973741 tn?1342342773 Thanks for that information. I guess I had not considered the carbohydrate component to diabetes. Knowing that a lower body weight helps with diabetes and diabetes prevention, had thought cutting carbs was related to that. But this makes it even more appealing to look into carb cutting (hard for me.
Avatar n tn So keep a small hand-held calculator in a kitchen drawer along with some scratch paper and a pen. I find that this is perfectly adequate for my own careful carb-counting. At times, when I don't want to go rooting back into my pantry for the original package of a snack food, I empty the foods into decorative canisters and just cut out the carb content area of label and drop it in a plastic sandwich bag to place in the canister for easy access when my glucose is low.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
Avatar n tn Net carbs doesn't take into account the fiber in foods, because some types of fiber don't affect blood sugar. For more on fiber and why it's health in a diabetes diet, read this from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app: http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Natures-Blood-Sugar-Secret/1822 But, the simplest way to count carbs is to just use the numbers on the label, as in this article: http://www.medhelp.

Avatar f tn You will find that you could sustain your energy better as well. Read labels and watch net carb (total carb-fiber). Should be 40g for guys and 20g for women on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn Rocker, you might want to reduce your apple intake to 1 lb a day!! 3 lbs seems a bit much. I would be spending most of my time on the can if I ate that many.
