193609 tn?1292180293 I lost my weight by exercising and counting calories. Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out. In order to lose weight, you have to burn more than you consume. People lose weight on low carb diets because whether or not they realize it, they're consuming less calories. High carb foods (cereal, potatoes, rice, pasta, sugary snacks) tend to be quite calorie dense so a very modest portion can end up being pretty caloric.

973741 tn?1342342773 I'm wondering about this topic. Does counting your carbs help prevent diabetes? An essential thing to do if you are worried about diabetes? What are the best ways to do this?
Avatar f tn I am counting calories but am always hungry which is preventing me from sticking with a diet. As a result, am seriously considering taking the prescription pill (phentermine) to help supress my appetite. My question is, is it save to take this pill while breastfeeding?
666357 tn?1225318814 Ha. and then throwing in carb counting and fat counting and dietary fiber counting.... (just to make sure it's all balanced, you know) thank goodness I paid attention in math or I'd be in trouble. If you find a solution, let me know :) For me, it's a easy way to have some control over something in my life as everything else is perfectly hectic or otherwise out of my control. Or so the story goes.
Avatar m tn She said to limit my carb intake to 180g per day. So instead of counting calories I count carbs (I also keep track of calories though). I worked out 3 of my 6 days for p90x and still lost 6lbs last week by doing this. So excited because I did p90x for 30days without skipping any days and I was staying in my calorie range, and I only lost 2lbs and I gained a body fat percentage. I was not watching my carbs. Now that I am, I have felt better and am finally dropping pounds. Hope this helps!

Avatar f tn as most teenagers who begin counting calories become self destructive and i have never seen one teenager who started counting calories and didnt end up obsessive and loose their mind. Its a bad window. You dont need yo worry about them just concentratw on eating balanced meals of carbs fats and protein source foods. An easy step to follow is to fill half your plate with vegetables, 1/4 with carb(like brown ride of wraps) and 1/4 with a fish, lean meat or poultry or eggs.
Avatar f tn I don't recommend counting calories or specifically counting fat/carb grams. It's honestly just too hard to do, and I tend to think that it doesn't teach us anything. Much better to concentrate on small changes that you can live with. As you mention, losing weight may help not only with your general health, but also make you have reduced risk for heart disease, cancer, and...the list goes on! Avatar n tn Stress can hinder weight loss. Also I've found counting calories so diligently can be a detriment. I would stop counting calories and just try to eat healthy. You don't have to have 80 ounces of water a day either. I would try and get 32 ounces from water and the rest from everywhere else. Also, though this is the natural weight loss forum, I might look into taking 5 htp (natural appetite suppressant/mood booster) along with a B vitamin supplement.
1179375 tn?1296662480 Now my question is if your counting calories as far as weight loss, does it matter where the calories come from? I need to be realistic I can't spend the rest of my life cutting this food and that food and going to extremes I need to be able to eat "normal" can I go to family picnic and eat whats there just smaller portions and stay a relitively normal weight We live in the country my family eats meatloaf and macaroni salad if you know what I mean.
Avatar f tn So I am 30w 2D and I have been counting calories since week 20. I eat between 2000 to 2200 a day. And my baby boy is still in the 95 percebtile! Which is great because he's big and strong the doctor says. I also keep a food journal. Who else does this? Am I just crazy?
Avatar f tn Exercise at least three days a week or better yet weight lift every other day and walk or ruin every other day then on the seventh day rest and east something you craved all week. Watch your calories not your fat or carb intake. Most of all stay vigilant in your personal challenge.
1451080 tn?1438527660 If you lost 15 pounds in a week, you lost too much. Are you not counting calories, along with the carbs? Your body needs certain foods, in adequate amounts, in order to be healthy and you need a certain number of calories/day just to stay alive. Are you getting any exercise? If you aren't exercising to keep your muscles strong, you could be losing lean muscle, not fat, which is going to harm you in the long run.
Avatar f tn I was counting calories (not suggesting you do that), and would aim for around 500 calories under each day, but in actuality if I could be under by 400 most days and had one day a week where I was over, I was fine with that.
10570408 tn?1412078257 Count calories. Figure out what your maintenance calories per day are, cut it down by at least 25%, and don't eat any more than that per day. For example, if you maintain your weight at 2000 calories per day, if you cut your calories down to 1500 per day, you would lose one pound a week. One pound is equivalent to 3500 calories.
Avatar f tn Are you counting calories or just carbs? What type, and how much exercise do you get?
1256514 tn?1270035546 First of all, fat is from unused calories. If you are eating only 900 calories a day you are actually malnourished and probably on a path to an eating disorder if you are not careful (10 lbs is not worth it). When you do not feed your body enough your skin and hair will not be able to repair and grow properly which could lead to things like hair loss. Not eating enough will leave you tired/exhausted because your body won't get enough fuel to run.
Avatar f tn I am by no stretch and expert in weight loss but I am seasoned veteran in struggling over weight loss. I used to drive myself nuts over a number on a scale and through much failure final realized that losing an inch is better than losing a pound. Muscle weighs more than fat and at the rate you are exercising it may be possible that the scale is not changing even though your body mass is becoming more muscular.
Avatar n tn I have had type 2 diabetes for 16 years and have always had trouble with my levels. An uncontrolable brittle diabetic my doc calld me. Playing defense taking 3 different types of insulin a day all day. Recently my doc changed my insulins to 1 toujeo but it is impartive that I take fast acting with every meal according to the carb count.I have no idea what I'm doing. And despite my efforts they still sky rocket after I eat.
Avatar f tn s gotten fat eating salmon, very high in calories, and a lot of people have gotten fat eating lower calorie white bread. Calories are important, but other things are more important.
Avatar n tn Here is another article on the benefits of counting carbs that may help you. We are working on developing more articles on carb counting as well! http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn For me I am tracking both macros and also have a target daily calories of about 1400 calories. In my case my macro targets are 5% carbs (20g), 15% protein (60g) and 80% fats. A small scale is useful for weighing foods. Read labels. Focus on eating unprocessed foods. As a general guideline when eating low carb the easiest way is to cut out all grains and added sugars. No sweetened foods either. Fruits will be limited to small portions of low carb fruits such as berries.
Avatar n tn I think the confusion comes down to this-- JUST counting calories isn't the only thing to consider and may not result in weight loss. But counting calories along with the quality of calories can work for people. :>) When I'm limiting calories, I try to think about what I'm going to use my 'calorie spend' on. I try to make it count toward feeling good and being healthy.
53833 tn?1234996629 d be stretching. Anyways, looking for suggestions on whether a carb counting or calorie counting diet would work best for him, or something altogether different. He's not fat in the least, just a teenager who doesn't have a long, lanky flat torso like some of his friends. Unfortunately inherited tummy style from Mom & Dad (who in their 40's no longer care that they don't have (or ever had) a six-pack!).
