Avatar f tn It may be 1 unit of insulin covers 10 g of carbs? or maybe 1 unit covers 5 g of carb. During pregnancy this will continue to change and you will continue to need more insulin. Has your dr instructed you how to do corrections with insulin. For example, when I am high, I know that 1 unit of insulin will bring my blood sugar down by 10 points. Then if I am 150 at 3 hours after eating, I will correct. Your basal insulin (the levemir) will also need to be increased as the pregnancy progresses.
Avatar n tn The Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones personal meals work well for me. While they have approximately the same amount of carbs the fat content is really low (which makes my bloodsugar levels easier to control since the carbs are being released quickly-like normal- and not being released over a long period of time...this makes it substantially easier to control my bg). Also stay away from Bird's Eye because that brand has an astronomical amount of carbs and fat (depending on which dish you buy).
Avatar m tn For weight and blood sugar management controlling how much carbs you eat each day is an essential part of management. Some people find that low carb, moderate protein, higher healthy fats diet is helpful in management. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
Avatar f tn What are the chances of getting GD at age 39? Throw in the added factors of me being overweight and already having sugar level on the high end of normal (pre-diabetes)?

Avatar n tn I have tried many protein bars, but all of which contain HIGH ammounts of sugar. so thats out of the question now. Do u know of any meal replacement bars or protein bars, that arent loaded with sugar?
Avatar n tn I do eat low carb. However, if you use insulin you need to be, aware that some carb foods digest more quickly than others, which may affect insulin dosing.
1401296 tn?1280799533 however, my feeling is that your body needs all of the food groups, so by cutting out carbs, you could be depriving your body of necessary nutrients, etc. If you do go on a carb free diet and lose weight, most likely, you will gain it back if you go off the plan. If you stick with the complex carbs - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc - and eliminate the simple carbs - such as sugar, white flour, regular pasta, etc, - you should do better. Of course, you still have to limit your portions.
10570408 tn?1412078257 I am sorry to hear that. Try and cut down on your intake of red meat and processed food as well. Replace them with fresh fruits and vegetables. If it still fails to get your weight shifting, try Liproxenol max. It was very effective for me.
Tbd I recommend low carb (20 - 50 g a day), moderate protein (approx. 0.8 - 1 g / kg of body weight), and the fat that comes naturally with the selected foods; enough that you are not hungry. Note: you must not eat low fat foods - eat regular fat foods, use butter, oil reasonably in cooking, choose fatty meat cuts, avocado, etc).
Avatar f tn Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio. count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.
Avatar f tn medication is one part of blood sugar controle (BG)... your taking drugs so is execise... your exercising so is what you eat.... What do you eat? Carbohydrates raise BG... ALL carbs raise BG carbs are pasta, rice, wheat, most fruit, ALL raise BG.
Avatar m tn ve been on that High Fat Low Carb diet. But my mother is in town and after taking her to the city zoo, and doing a bunch of walking, I decided to take her to a Thai place. It was the first time eating a carb meal in a month. It was drunken noodles, with tomato, basil, and chicken. Some sites say that as long as it's under 140 im fine. But the internet says crazy things sometimes. I wanna hear from real people.
362249 tn?1441315018 The only addition would be that people on low carb diets normally have their triglycerides within normal ranges; this is one of the most reliable results in selecting a low carb way of eating. Too much fructose in our diet tends to increase blood triglycerides and is a risk factor for heart disease.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar m tn She said to limit my carb intake to 180g per day. So instead of counting calories I count carbs (I also keep track of calories though). I worked out 3 of my 6 days for p90x and still lost 6lbs last week by doing this. So excited because I did p90x for 30days without skipping any days and I was staying in my calorie range, and I only lost 2lbs and I gained a body fat percentage. I was not watching my carbs. Now that I am, I have felt better and am finally dropping pounds. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Definitely no sugar but it helps to walk for at least 15 min after each meal. Watch out with fruits Iuusually count them as my carb when I would snack. I had GD last pregnancy and it was a challenge but I stuck to my diabetic diet and was able to control it. The great thing about it is I only gained 26 lbs total, unlike this time around I'm 30 weeks and have already gained 27!
Avatar f tn I think there are two types of Weight Watchers plans you can do, the plan where you count points and the one where it is a lower carb diet. Anyways, I gained weight on weight watchers before, when there wasn't the lower carb choice. I am now doign South Beach and have had success this week.
Avatar f tn It would help if I had a list of foods to go grocery shopping for, and what I could or couldn't eat.
Avatar m tn An easy but not highly accurate way to do this is to take a reading and take a specific amount of Insulin and then about 3 hours later take a new reading. Divide the count change by the number of units taken. ie reading of 200 and 2 units taken and new reading of 160. Count difference of 40 divided by 2 units is 20 basis points per unit. So if your reading was 200 you would need 5 units to bring it down to a target of 100. The inverse can be done as well.
Avatar n tn I eat pretty healthy now and exercise alot but my levels seem to be all over the place still. I am on 25units of novorapid before breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and 45units of lantus before i go to bed. Im having troubles getting to a diabetes specialist as i have very little time due to work and soccer taking up almost every day. Any ideas or thoughts about everything or anything?
Avatar f tn I do work out, but I do have some weight to lose. I know all about complex carbs, carb count, protein with meals, and glycemic index and insulin resistance. All I ever see online is pre-diabetes and that's it. Being that this has been going on for a short time, I feel that it may be something else. I am going to the doctor in two weeks, but I'd like to research other possible causes while I wait.
