Avatar f tn I took Chantix and I too was diagnosed with Hyperthyroid. My heart races and now I take a medication for that and my doctor increased my B/P medication, can not sleep at night, and I gained at least 20lbs. I now take medication to treat my hyperthyroid disease. This week I will have a stress test to see if there is any other reason my heart is racing. My neck becomes very stiff and it hurts, and my doctor told me to take Ibuprofen for the pain.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor before quitting as will reduce the dose gradually. And Lexapro can take a quite a while to take effect so it,s not uncommon that doctors prescribe anti-anxiety meds like benzos ( Ativan , bromazepam ) to deal with the panic attack and general axiety before Lexapro kicks in. Hope your son will be well soon.
195469 tn?1388326488 How long have you been taking Chantix and have you totally quit yet? I am still striving to put that LAST cigarette out, not only for my overall health, but so I can visit that plastic surgeon to get the "excess part" of me, thrown in a trash can somewhere. So much hanging skin. The side affect of a large weight loss. The only down side, as a matter of fact. My age doesn't help with good skin elasticity either. I'm getting so old....
Avatar n tn I have been on many different medications for depression and tried both chantix and wellbutrin to quit smoking. I could not take the chantix due to migraines and the medication would bring them on. As with any medication the side effects differ for each person. No one is the same. Many ppl have some of the same side effects but each persons health, background, metobolism, ect is different in some way, shape, or form. Therefore cannot expect the same results as some one else.
495384 tn?1212180369 The Xanax is starting to work a little and I can sit here and type--and breathe! I am just so tired of this! I wish I had a different symptom of anxiety, like just tingling hands or an occasional racing heart--okay I don't want any of these either!--but when I feel like one of my most basic life fuctions is being threatened-respiration-I am sent into a full blown panic attack. It is sooo terrifying.
Avatar m tn I can tell you without a doubt, the last thing you want to take is Wellbutrin since it has a very stimulating effect and the Chantix, while a good drug for some, not good for people prone to anxiety or depression. Your best bet is to try cold turkey again and talk to your doctor about Clonidine which is a blood pressure med that can also be used for opiate and smoking w/d. I normally take xanax at night only, but was forced to take it during the day to deal with the anxiety.
Avatar f tn I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.
173930 tn?1196341998 geesh - how we lived through those days and how you lived through it, no one knows, but we did and are here for a reason, and... you CAN beat this Hep C too! You can beat it! This is a great place - I'm so glad you have PUT IT DOWN! Keep it DOWN. Put it ALL down.
595141 tn?1239975414 Using wellbutrin would be going from one drug to another. If you don't need wellbutrin for depression, consider it does have side effects and is a strong drug. You can quit without it; millions have. The best way to quit a bad habit is to start something new rather than thinking of it as quitting something familiar. It'll be really hard, but we're here for you (like that'll help!
544292 tn?1268886268 I sure hope you are all having a nice Holiday. Welcome to the room those who are new. Thank you so much for finding us. I know you can do this!
Avatar n tn I think its just like everything else and YOU have to have the drive to quit yourself too. The Chantix is merely an aid to help, the hardest part is up to you.
Avatar f tn com and really read them so he will understand what's going on inside him and how he can better cope with his loss. If you are a smoker, or ever were, then you can appreciate that we do consider it a loss. I can't tell you what to do, but I would get that prescription refilled and see if that doesn't take the edge off. Your physician can also prescribe something that will help him cope. I believe Wellbutrin is something that seems to have a high success rate.
544292 tn?1268886268 Hi Friends! Welcome all Tramadol warriors. We're all very glad to see you. Please come in and share.
1134609 tn?1269275800 Yes well stoppping smoking can have side effects and it is know that Chantix can have severe side effects including worsening the symptoms of bipolar. That's not to say it caused it though but you can ask your psychiatrist more when those issues are over and they can make a further determination.
Avatar n tn It sometimes takes 6 weeks for the medication to take effect. If you didnt take the medication for long enough you have no way of knowing whether there would be a positive impact on your condition (in some cases it may not be possible to "ride out" the side-effects if they are too severe). Also, have you seen a physchiatrist for your mental health?
898040 tn?1284040109 the longer you go the more you are probably going to want one in the've already taken the hardest step...DON'T give in....after a few weeks it's going to become easier and easier. Avoid places and people where you will be exposed to cigarette smoke becuase the smell will be VERY tempting. Remind yourself every time you start to have a craving WHY you are quitting. Quitting smoking it a big accomplishment and it's something to be very proud of!
220331 tn?1199846119 Suzie, I have some questions for you and maybe you can answer them and maybe it's too painful and I understand. I am an only child and don't know my father. My mother has smoked her whole life and has COPD really bad and is on disability and oxygen. She has yet to quit smoking. She moved to be by me and my girls almost a year ago, yet all she does is sleep. I never see her. I feel like she is just lazy and giving up.
Avatar m tn I know this has a lot of things in it but I guess for the first time, I am letting my secret out and I just keep typing. Oh and by the way, I also am on Chantix and haven't had a cigarette in 8 I am really doing a whole new lifechange. I have so much more I want to say but I know this is a lot to read as it is. I hope I get some feedback and thanks for letting me say things that have been pent up inside me for many years.
Avatar n tn Your post is very old but I have enjoyed reading it over and over and boy can I identify with what you said. I leave droppings wherever I go of gum. I almost feel embarrassed when they are found by my friends and family and they go "OOOH! There's Grandma's gum". I too have found wads everywhere including attached to my dog. He likes to chew it too and will every chance he sees one laying around that he can get to.
Avatar f tn do I need this now? Can I wait 20 minutes? and in 20 minutes.. can I wait 20 more..or can I just skip this one all toghether. Quitting completely is so finite and overwhelming.. take small steps and build upon the little successes. As it stands now, I have two cigarettes every night before bed... and I'm happy with that. Luckily, I believe that I don't have a strong physical addiction to smoking.. so that may have make it easier for met to cut down to the level that I have.
1565702 tn?1295296430 Well, you can quit. When you take the mentality of not being able to quit, you are reinforcing in your mind that indeed you cannot quit. Quitting is a commitment. It takes planning and preparation, and most importantly. (If you are going to let a habit ruin your job, I'd suggest some therapy/counseling) You've got to put your head in the right spot. You need to start thinking about what smoking is actually doing to your body/health. I mean, we know there are no benefits to smoking....
Avatar n tn I think writing this here may help me finally get this out in the open. I wish you all well and hope you and I can finally have a normal life free of nicotine. God that would be a blessing.
192055 tn?1263559137 Here are my answers. Maybe you are correct and we can all figure this out together. Trauma No Smoke use to but stopped about 2 years ago Shampoo switch all the time - right now Paul Mitchell Exercise try to walk a couple of times a week, but wouldn't consider it normal.
Avatar n tn I have experienced anxiety and depression off and on throughout my life, triggered by a traumatic experience, deep-seated regrets and combinations of other experiential-circumstances, and I can tell you first hand it is truly amazing how the mind is capable of affecting the body. The summer after I was in eighth grade I was bed-ridden most of the time and was so nauseated I couldn't swallow apple sauce and was only able to eat once a day during a certain window of time.
Avatar m tn And I was made fun of in elementary and middle school for teetering back and forth when I was nervous. Really, nothing beats that feeling when you can shut everything else out and create something better in your head. I definitely think it's a coping mechanism for me. It's exacerbated by any stressful situaton, and I often use it to forget about my problems.
