Chantix vs wellbutrin

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix vs wellbutrin

chantix

Avatar n tn wellbutrin is great also to stop smoking but it is also and antidepressant. Also if you take it make sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It raised mine through the roof with no blood pressure problems to begin with.
Avatar f tn Before Chantix came along Wellbutrin (bupropian) was used with fairly decent results. I am not sure of the stats but Chantix is more effective at 44% quit rate. More then anything, you really have to prepare yourself for your quit. What helped me a great deal was reading all of the articles at whyquitdotcom My experience with Chantix wasn't bad at all. There are some who weren't as lucky so you might want to read through the forum and see what everyone has to say about it.
Avatar m tn That said, I plan on quitting smoking with help from CHANTIX. (I got them from my Doctor several weeks ago....while I was on my long taper from Hydro). The Dr. does not know about the hydro abuse, just the smoking (obviously). I've had a revelation over 2 months ago that I wanted to beat both of these addictions, and to signify that by summitting Mount Everest in the spring of 2009. My trip is already booked and the training has somewhat begun. But my question is at say...
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
Avatar f tn I started 75 mg of generic wellbutrin 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me about there experience with this i suffer from anxiety and depression. I am having really bad anxiety and i dont know if it is from the medication or me worrying about taking it. How long does it take take effect? anything anyone could tell me would be great.
393419 tn?1228447393 I was fatigued (another possible effect of thyroid) and the chantix gave me more energy. I eased into the chantix and when I was near the end of the treatment, I weaned off slowly. My husband also took Chantix, but right after he started, he read some of the articles about some possible side effects and he panicked and in spite of my warnings, stopped it cold turkey. At the same time, he quit taking his anti-depressant and I can't describe the problems he had.
Avatar f tn Since I am struggling with my moods due to lack of meds, I am very concerned about how the nicotine withdrawals if I were to quit cold turkey. Any suggestions? From my research I have found that Chantix is definitely not an option for me.
Avatar f tn You might want to consider a prescription of Wellbutrin which is an anti-anxiety med (I think). Wellbutrin was used before Chantix came onto the scene and it had a fairly high success rate. In any case, it will help calm you through the tough times ; ) Hmm....
Avatar m tn Zyban is the same as Wellbutrin which is a commonly prescribed antidepressant and is an NDRI meaning norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. So basically the concept of the medication is that when you quit smoking you quit getting your regular dopamine fix (the brain rewards you for smoking a cigarette by releasing dopamine which makes you feel good.) The zyban, over the course of a few weeks, stops your body from breaking down the natural dopamine in your brain as quickly.
Avatar m tn to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking. Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!! I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!! AND...I'm not smoking either!! Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!! Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?
Avatar n tn Usually if you have panic attacks, and are irritable, have OCD and are depressed, an SSRI would be better than Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin can make panic attacks, irritability, anger and OCD even worse). I am convinced I have a dopamine problem, which is why I didn't even CONSIDER an ssri. I went right for wellbutrin since it works on dopamine. Well...
Avatar f tn Chantix really helped me quit. But I had only smoked for about 9 mos. after being off them for 22 years. I tried the patch, but I just ended up smoking on it and getting even more of a nicotine buzz. Some people have had success using Wellbutrin too.
Avatar m tn Whatever problems you have now will still be there, regardless if you are smoking or quit. You sound as if you are ready so I wish you luck and if you need support, we are here for you. As for the patch and taking an RX, I'm not sure what type of drug you are referring to. If it's an anxiety pill (wellbutrin, xanax, etc.) then that should be okay. If you are referring to Chantix, then no, you can't mix them. Good luck and we are her for support!
Avatar n tn Wellbutrin is stimulating, you may want to discuss this with your doctor. It may be the culprit with your insomnia. Take care.
Avatar f tn You're right about Wellbutrin. It can be more stimulating for some people. Maybe you can start on a very small dose to help with your depression. Ask you Dr about trying the lowest dose first to see how well you do on it.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Also there is that drug Chantix. At my office we have had patients on it and it really does work. It blocks the receptors in the brain or something so your body doesn't want the cigarettes. But, it is a prescription and you should ask your doctor about it. (It does cause crazy dreams and stuff so best to talk to your doctor.) I would say cold turkey for you is not a good idea. Good luck!
334876 tn?1229979296 s time to quit being the Marlboro man and quit smoking, my doc finally gave me the rx for chantix so I guess this is day one and I should see how good it works in about 7 days as it tends to taper off the well to smoke Wish me luck Cowboy
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Paxil as a smoking cessation substitute for Wellbutrin which was giving me side effects that included rapid heart palputations, etc. Hence, after 7 years of refills of Paxil, I was still smoking, drinking more alcohol, eating more and was very complacent in this world of overindulgence. I decided it was time to "WAKE UP" again; before I became an oversized alcoholic. Well, my doctor (Primary Care) took me from 20 mg to 12.5 for one week and then BOOM..
195469 tn?1388322888 I only think about it maybe twice a day. I took Wellbutrin before, but Chantix beats it hands down, for me anyway. It is expensive, and insurance won't cover it, but at 2 packs a day I figured cigs......pills......cigs........pills....the pills won. They recommend 3 months minimum, but am going to try only 2, can't afford more. Good luck to you both.....I didn't get flu shot either, am crossing my fingers...toes...legs...etc.....
Avatar n tn You do know that not all of the drugs you mentioned are ssris. Effexor is an snri, nortriptyline is a tricyclic. Fetzima is a newer snri. Remeron is a tetracyclic and is a notorious weight gainer. My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back.
Avatar f tn for some people chantix makes the addiction less than what it is without chantix...it makes it easier to quit. the problem is that it doesn't deal with all aspects of addiction, including addictive personalities and the behavioral habbits of smoking. anyway, i am not entirely sure what to suggest...but i'm glad you shared this. people should be aware of the risks and give it their very best try at quitting before resorting to it. see...
