Common Questions and Answers about Taking chantix with wellbutrin

chantix

Avatar n tn wellbutrin is great also to stop smoking but it is also and antidepressant. Also if you take it make sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It raised mine through the roof with no blood pressure problems to begin with.
Avatar n tn my wife is taking chantix to stop smoking and when she finishes the first month of chantix can she then take welbutrin as it is not as strong. The chantix is giving her bad dreams.
Avatar f tn Before Chantix came along Wellbutrin (bupropian) was used with fairly decent results. I am not sure of the stats but Chantix is more effective at 44% quit rate. More then anything, you really have to prepare yourself for your quit. What helped me a great deal was reading all of the articles at whyquitdotcom My experience with Chantix wasn't bad at all. There are some who weren't as lucky so you might want to read through the forum and see what everyone has to say about it.
Avatar f tn I had the shakes while taking wellbutrin after about 1 week of the drug daily. I felt like my heart was racing and speeding , and I could feel it all through my body. I think some people just have that reaction to this type of med. You might want to consider asking your doctor about chantix, but that depends on whether or not your taking anything else, and if you do go that route, do your homework.
Avatar m tn But my question is at say...14 days off Hydro, is Chantix safe to take or will it somehow interact negatively with the progess I've made coming off? Any help would be appreciated. Also note that Chantix is quite similar to Wellbutrin for those who might not know what it is. Thanks guys!
393419 tn?1228447393 If you have nausea in the morning be sure to drink juice or eat some fruit with the pill. I had a full glass of grapefruit juice with the Chantix and it stopped all of the nausea. Without the juice I tossed my cookies. Taking one more medication was a pain but it was worth the results. I have been about 10 months smoke free.
Avatar f tn I am BiPolar II rapid cycling and a smoker. I was taking Depakote, Lithium, and Propranolol. I have been off my meds for almost 3 months because I lost my insurance. I want to stop smoking. Since I am struggling with my moods due to lack of meds, I am very concerned about how the nicotine withdrawals if I were to quit cold turkey. Any suggestions? From my research I have found that Chantix is definitely not an option for me.
Avatar f tn My friend just quit taking Chantix due to the inability to handle the side effects. She has noticed that since quitting the Chantix alcohol has effected her differently. While on the Chantix she noticed the effects of alcohol tokk in quite quickly where now she seems to have a tolerance that was not there before. Is it possible that theh Chantix caused her intolerabilty to alcohol?
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
Avatar m tn to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking. Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!! I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!! AND...I'm not smoking either!! Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!! Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?
444932 tn?1273980797 Read the post by Joanna564 dated 3/11 titled "Is itching a symptom of nicotine withdrawl." It's hard to say what is or isn't normal but I'm quite sure that it does have to do with with your cutting back or the Chantix even though it isn't listed as a side effect. I had itching also but mainly my nose and scalp. I had finished taking Chantix by then so I didn't think to blame it on that. You said that you were having headaches a few days ago. Have those subsided?
Avatar m tn just curious....how long have you been taking Chantix, and can you stop taking Chantix without the need to have either a cigarette or a Chantix 'fix'??
Avatar f tn Norcoqueen - I am with you.. maybe we should try together??? cigs have been the hardest thing Ive ever *thought* about trying to quit (LOL).. Ive never gotten far.. And IMO the cigs are definitely going to kill me before anything else.. all my older relatives died of smoking related diseases! Its gotta STOP. I know it does.
Avatar f tn You might want to consider a prescription of Wellbutrin which is an anti-anxiety med (I think). Wellbutrin was used before Chantix came onto the scene and it had a fairly high success rate. In any case, it will help calm you through the tough times ; ) Hmm....
Avatar f tn t so far.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm taking chantix along with other meds, sertraline, is another anti depressant in the same category with no problems. I think (but dont quote me) that it is the MAOI's and Trycilyic anti d's that chantix is not recommended.
334876 tn?1229979296 My hubby tried the Chantix and he quit for a while but then started up with the habit cigarettes...you know, the ones that you don't really want but smoke out of habit? I believe that once he did that the Chantix stopped doing what it's supposed to and the habit takes over. Before you know it you are back where you started at the beginning again and that is very frustrating and expensive! I personally don't believe in a stop smoking aid unless you STOP smoking.
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
195469 tn?1388322888 I have to throw in a comment about the smoking. I am now in week 3 of taking Chantix..It is the best thing I have ever tried. You smoke for the first 7 days taking it, then quit. I do not even have a desire for a digarette, even if I smell it. I only think about it maybe twice a day. I took Wellbutrin before, but Chantix beats it hands down, for me anyway. It is expensive, and insurance won't cover it, but at 2 packs a day I figured cigs......pills......cigs........pills....the pills won.
Avatar n tn I am also experiencing sore breasts while on Chantix. This is actually the 3rd time I have quit smoking with this drug. I did not experience this the last 2 times. I have now discontinued taking the medication after having quit smoking for 8 days. I know that the recommended dosing is for a whole month to three months. I have found that taking it until the general nicotine withdrawl symptoms have gone works for me.
Avatar n tn We are not medical doctors so if you want to know about the side effects then you should call them (chantix) directly at 1-877-CHANTIX. Also, there is something that comes with the prescription that tells you about the risks. You had better read up on it. Sorry to hear that you are having seizures. I took chantix with very little side effects. Good luck with everything and if you need support with your quit, then we are here for you.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I've been using the patches; they've been my stand-by every time I have given up chewing. I am thinking about using the gum, just because I'll get a solid dose of nicotine every few hours. I think that may help out with the issue. At the very least, it's time to dump the patches; I've been trying to quit with their help for months and it hasn't worked.
Avatar n tn Sometimes you can get free samples from your doctors office or a coupon from the maker to use with the prescription from your doctor. Let me give you a warning before you try chantix. Always research any new medication before trying it. My husband was prescribed chantix to quit smoking. After he started taking it he began having panic attacks. He had never had one before the medication but began having them during. Unfortunately that is now something he has to live with for the of his life.
Avatar f tn I HATE PAXIL too!!! I can't believe no one tells you how serious the side effects are when you want to come off of it....I seriously think that something should be done about that..... I thought about taking chantix and chickened out because of the recent (over the summer) bad press it got. I will try it, I think. As soon as I get a clear mind and get over these withdrawals. Today is much, much better. I woke up feeling "semi-normal". Not so strange.
