By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.

i have no personal experience with that but i do know some here on the forum have been taking chantix and they did not have any problems. good luck on the smoking and mount everest. hang on and maybe someone with more knowledge may come along. in the meantime you might try googling that ?

wellbutrin is great also to stop smoking but it is also and antidepressant. Also if you take it make sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. It raised mine through the roof with no blood pressure problems to begin with.

I used Chantix and had absolutely no extreme effects. A bit of upset stomach was the worst of it. I took it for a month and a half and have been quit for 1 year and 1 month! There are times when I still feel and urge, especially when stressed, but it goes away in mere seconds and it doesn't happen often : ) I hope you feel better with each day and thanks for offering your help.

my wife is taking chantix to stop smoking and when she finishes the first month of chantix can she then take welbutrin as it is not as strong. The chantix is giving her bad dreams.

Your supposed to smoke for the first 2 weeks so your body builds up these receptor blockers and when the 2 weeks is up you quit all together. When I used chantix I quit after 2 weeks and didn't really have cravings, it was more them mental part that was a little harder. You can do it tho :) The cravings don't last that long, during the cravings find something to do to take your mind off the smoking. I did laundry, cleaned, ate lol and before you know it, its gone.

After taking Wellbutrin 150mg 2x daily and my Zoloft 100mg together fro the first time I woke disoriented and dizzy Just was wondering if I should of started the wellbutrin one a day to get used to it.

I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?

Zyban is the same as Wellbutrin which is a commonly prescribed antidepressant and is an NDRI meaning norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. So basically the concept of the medication is that when you quit smoking you quit getting your regular dopamine fix (the brain rewards you for smoking a cigarette by releasing dopamine which makes you feel good.) The zyban, over the course of a few weeks, stops your body from breaking down the natural dopamine in your brain as quickly.

I tried the patch, but I just ended up smoking on it and getting even more of a nicotine buzz. Some people have had success using Wellbutrin too.

I am on that combination and it works great. I was taking Lexapro 20 mg with Wellbutrin and was fine. How long have you been on Lexapro? My doc started me out slow with a week of 5 mg then 10 mg and so on. I know jumping into 20 mg for me was exhausting. Best of luck.

I started 75 mg of generic wellbutrin 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me about there experience with this i suffer from anxiety and depression. I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.

The family doctor has finally agreed that these symptoms are negative effects of the chantix and he needs to go on anxiety med and see a counselor. I have read on other blogs that other users are still fighting symptoms after years off that drug. Has anyone else been fighting the effects of this awful drug? We are emotionally devastated to see what was once a strong, healthy, active young man turn into a bundle of nerves and anxiety.

So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?

I would say yes, because wellbutrin is an antidepressant and klonopin is a benzo and they don't have any neg effect together usually and are often perscribed together, to be sure I would call an all night pharmacist or your local pharmacist, they can give you more professional advice, I do it all the time. JUst ask them if you can tak ethe two together and they can tell you if you need to look for or worry with side effects, but I would think it is fine.

I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).

Hi~I have been on anti-depressants but not at the time I took Chantix. I would even call the pharmacist and ask if there is potential for problems taking both together. I did have major side effects-mostly nightmares, bad sleep, bad stomach aches and nausea so I stopped it before I quit smoking. I have started it again just two days ago. I am taking it at night with over the counter sleep aid because I know that was the hardest part. It also makes me a little cranky.

Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
