then i went to other doctor and he said how the first doctor can put u on trustiva ( atripla ) as ur result elisa test is negative.... so i have stopped trustiva ( atripla ) after 4 ays of consumption ( 4 tablets ) ... have i done right by stopping trustiva ( atripla ) .... I found out on Dec 17th, 2009 that I was HIV+. It's been a troubling 5 months to say the least!!! I can't sleep; I am ALWAYS tired; I have no endurance and get winded very quickly; I get pounding headaches when I exert myself; etc,
On Dec 17th, 2009, my Viral load was 55000 but CD4 was not tested as of yet
My test results on Jan 11/10: CD4 380; CD4% 24%; Viral Load 30000
My test results on Feb 08/10: CD4 340; CD4% 28%; Viral Load 44000.

I am wondering if Atripla after four days will make my DNA PCR test invalid? I am wondering if I can have such bad symptoms without enough antibodies being present to make these other tests positive?
I am wondering what else would cause these perfect HIV symptoms? How long in the system does it take Atripla to work and start fighting down the HIV? How long before Antibodies are present when you have bad symptoms?

I just had a couple of quick clarifying questions for you:
1. Would you please clarify why you called the decision regarding whether or not to continue the Atripla a "toss up?" I totally appreciate the fact that you would not have given it (and I of course noted that you did say you would discontinue it if it were you)..
I started meds fairly soon after. I started Atripla in 2010. It got be undetectable quickly and has kept that way. I never had major bad side effects on it. I did have some crazy dreams and still do. After I was on it for a couple years, things began to slowly deteriorate. I began getting panic attacks, and bouts of tachycardia and palpitations. I had a history of those but it seemed to get worse.
I prefaced it by saying that I had been given these pills and would rather not take them, but if he could not be (or was not ready to be) completely honest with me about his sexual history, I would just take them. He told me that he has had two partners (anal sex) in the last 7 months: one was an ex-boyfriend (unprotected) who cheated on him and one was a hook up (protected).
I dont know anything about Arv's. Any other names I can talk to my doc about that wont make me depressed? Btw when I raised the topic of side effects his response was "why am I even concerned about them. Dont I want to live?
He did not ejaculate inside me, however it was unprotected. Later today I saw in his cabinet the medication atripla which I found out is for the treatment of HIV. I have not been able to discuss my finding with him as of yet, but I'm very very concerned. I went to a late operating clinic that advised me to see a specialist. However, Im curious as to the prophylaxis meds and how they work. Could someone help me on what I should do next?
I was on Atripla (with Tenofovir) and my hip bone became nearly inoperable. It affected my bones big time. Since then, I was told I had Periodontal Disease, but I don't believe it's a disease. My teeth are spotless. I floss twice daily and brush gently. I never drink soda or candy. I even gave up on alcohol. I think it's an issue of digestion and food quality.

ve been googling and seeing that oral sex pose no risk for HIV but to put my mind at ease I want to take the Atripla for 30 days for peace of mind and also because I paid for it (broke college student.).
I know I'm at risk for other STD's that I'm going to test for.
Do you think I need to test for HIV at 3 months? Do you believe that the results will be negative?
I couldn't wait. We talked. He is positive and I will test asap and a ll I can do is pray for the best. I am hurt, so incredibly hurt, but I couldn't bring myself to brow beat him or be hateful even though he expected it, and pretty much deserves it. At this point it won'tm ake anything any easier or better. And it doesn't take away my love for him.
I had neuro syphilis (rash, lost some hearing stage 2 i believe it was) about 2 years ago and went on atripla at that time. There was a few months (from December 2012 until about June 2013) i was off the meds due to my insurance/cost etc. Back in October 2012 i had all my blood was negative for syphilis and all numbers were great.
Thank you Howard for responding. After I wrote my question,I saw that this was for prevention :( I have been hiv + for over 20 years, only took meds thru two pregnancies years ago. After my recent labs,t cell 300, viral load,40,000, doctor of course is urging me to start meds. Today is supposed to be my start date for meds,got cold feet, I guess.
My husband was diagnosed in dec after a 5day stay in hospital discharged as neg but tild to call doc in 3days some blood work was not ready. Ehen we called they told him to go seea doc they started him on atripla. He is doing fine but he says he is neg the test r wrong. I don't want to sound stupid but since I am still neg I recently started to wonder if he is right.
On April 13, we saw each other again and only had mutual masturbation. I performed oral sex on him with no ejaculation. I stopped because I noticed he had what appeared to be swollen lymph nodes. I immediately freaked out!!! On April 14 I went to the doctor and they did a fourth generation test on me, full Std panel, and syphllis Hep A B C as well. I was so scared my doctor put me on pep atripla one time a day for 28 days for the exposure on the 13th.
She was completely blind sided and devastated. I went onto PEP (Atripla) within 5 hrs and completed the 30 day course of PEP. It is currently 11 weeks post PEP. I went for an hiv rapid prick test at 6,7,8 and 11 weeks post PEP and all have been negative. Can I confidently put this episode and anxiety behind me? Im going for the 12 week test at the end of this week.
Thanks Liz, so I don't have to take these PEP tablets (Atripla)? It cost me quite alot. And on another note, I know you guys do not approve of PCR RNA tests...but how reliable can a negative PCR test at 10 days post exposure be?
