Avatar m tn On a positive note a friend of mine came over to watch some football yesterday and he had broken his leg so of course he was popping pain killers and as I saw him take one it litterally made me sick to even look at it. I guess I'm so mentally screwed up here I dont know what to think. But I do know I want my life back and will do whatever it takes to get my happiness back.
Avatar f tn While training, consume 24 ounces of a sports drink and a fig bar or energy bar. After training, a recovery drink or recovery bar suffices. At lunch, black beans and roasted peppers wrapped in a whole grain tortilla with salsa, brown rice and a handful of baked tortilla chips offers a mix of carbs and protein. In the afternoon, a bran muffin and a banana.
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.

When I came in from mowing the lawn, I found that my puppy decided to chew my runners. She never has chewed shoes before. Its just my luck. Hopefully they are still wearable as she just chewed the heal.
Avatar m tn I am sophomore in high school and I am currently running track. I was recently been diagnosed with "runners knee" and was given a few strecthes and leg strengthening exercises to help with my knee problems. Well, after a solid two weeks of performing these exercises, my knee feels strong and well. But whenever i have to stretch and put my left knee into my buttox the entire knee feels an incredible amount of pain.
Avatar f tn I would like to run/walk a 5k. Any runners out there? I need a training schedule and ideas of how long to train. I walk 4 miles every day and currently walk a 13 minute mile. I am looking at a 5k 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks. I would like to do both, but will register for the later one if I need more time to train. I would like to step it up to some type of running, even if my time is quite slow.
Avatar n tn I was not an avid runner, it was a new years resolution to start it, by the summer I found out i was pregnant and I didn't want to use it an an out excuse. So. I kept running. My doctor and runners forums advised watching my temp and heart rate and obviously how you are feeling. So that's what I did, I jogged vs ran. I continued up till 7 mths. My last hoorah was a half marathon!
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be tendinosis which may cause swelling or a hard knot of tissue (nodule) on the back of the leg. This may occur in runners and also is more common in athletes, especially in sports that involve jumping and in people who do a lot of walking. If it persists and other symptoms occur such as pain and swelling, have this evaluated further for proper management. A complete physical examination must be done to reach a diagnosis. Take care and regards.

1415174 tn?1453243103 Over-training syndrome occurs as a result of excessive physical activity and limited recovery time, and may produce leg weakness in individuals who rely excessively on this muscle group, including cyclists and runners. According to Rice University, over-training may be caused by decreases in testosterone, increases in muscular breakdown and changes in immune system function. In most cases, rest is the best form of treatment for individuals who are suffering from over-training syndrome.
Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. Avatar n tn The standard response is that the brain cells that were just knocked unconscious usually come back in six months. The recovery of functions that were controlled by the now dead brain cells will require your brain to work on neuroplasticity, basically moving control to another part of your brain. That change can take a long time, I have heard of cases 15-20 years after a stroke and recovery can still take place.
Avatar n tn I would recommend first losing your weight and then wearing the right kind of shoes to prevent further injury of Metatarsalgia. Runners can get more information at http://www.runnersworld.com/injury-prevention-recovery/metatarsalgia on how to prevent metatarsalgia.
Avatar m tn My 6 yr old female cat jumped from a tree branch about 5 ft high. She is always jumping up onto ledges or down from them, she jumps very high, always climbing trees, etc. Anyway, her front paw is now swollen and she will not walk on it, she limps all around. She does not seem to be in pain, she still goes up and down the steps and jumps on and off the furniture and beds, going to the food dish etc.

Avatar n tn But i do have an artificial leg which is held on with plastic/rubber sheath and this causes my leg to sweat above normal. They have a spray that i can apply to kill the odor causing bacteria. Perhaps there is some general type solution like this. There may be medications or dietary changes that may help. i know how bad the problem can be and before i found my solution i was embarrassed to take my artificial leg off in front of my wife. Hope your doctor can help.
Avatar n tn I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
Avatar f tn 51 yo F, diagnosed with Runners Knee, have been in pain, swollen and limping for 7 months. Dr. says to just keep coming back for cortisone, but it really does nothing. I can hardly walk, I am in pain, do I have to live like this? Is my doctor on the right track? Maybe I have meniscus tears??? It affects everything... walking, sleeping, working. Help!! Also, I have had xrays only. Shows no arthritis. In both knees, although one is worse than the other.

Avatar m tn I have undiagnosed nervous system disorder and I get this actually but more in the groin, and down my left leg, numbness and not being able to tell if someone touches my leg or not. It certainly could be the after affects of the accident it will take a long time for all the nerves to heal, and it oculd be the results of the brain hemoraghe or just that the accident has caused some spinal cord trauma.
