Avatar n tn He cannot move his left arm and leg, has lost his speech and cannot swallow. He was given the wrong feed in the PEG tube and got severe diarrhea (he has gluten intolerance). He became dehydrated and his blood got too thin due to coumadin. He has atrial fib. Now he is on another feed which seems to suit him better. My question is what is the prognosis for a patient in his condition? He has about 70 more days left for skilled nursing facility.
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
195500 tn?1257427532 Hi, My 12-14 year old beagle (we adopted her, so don't know her exact age) fell down our stairs Sunday. Basically, I was carrying her down before we went out and I fell down the stairs with her. Sunday night she walked a little slow, but mostly she just looked like she was sore, and seeing how I felt, I didn't blame her. Yesterday, her walking was pretty much back to normal, but I noticed her tail was constantly between her legs, hung down.

Avatar n tn still cannot walk or use her left arm. Has some movement in leg and arm. Also, she has very bad arthritis, including the knee in her "bad' leg. Her left hand is now swollen and she seems to be losing the little ability she had to grasp. We are all so despondent and don't know what her outcome will be ...we DO NOT want her in a nursing home..(she lives with her son and daughter in law)... The neurologist said there is still "some life" left in the limbs..
970618 tn?1247715435 I had broken rods replaced on Feb 2 2010 and in July 2010 I now have Two broken rods at L3-L4. I did nothing to cause this break I think the rod were faulty. On each rod is a manufacture name and each rod has its own number I will get this information. There is no way after 5 months they broke.
Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. I'm new to the website but thought it may be a great place to ask my question. Okay, so here's the situation. 8 years ago while crossing the street I was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver.
Avatar m tn This morning our neighbor came over to tell us Jasper, our 5 year old cat, was under the hood of his work truck when he crunk it up. We took him to the vet immediately. He has a broken leg (possibly two broken legs) and may be paralyzed, a broken tail that has to be amputated, a gash on his backside, a gash in his face and possibly a broken pelvis along with possible internal injuries.

Avatar m tn If there is no progress over such a long period of time, I have seen from articles on the internet that the predicted outcome over the long term is not so hopeful. Does anyone have any similar experiences with a family member who has not responded to therapy when initially in the rehab facility?
Avatar m tn The doctors at the local hospital placed a steel rod Inside the broken tibia and held it in place with 3 pins (after little research I think it is called an Intramedullary rod). For the first 3-4 years I didn't notice the the metal in my leg and lived a normal life each day, i.e. running, mild gymnastics training, caring for my elderly father(heavy lifting), and the life of a 16-20 year old. I am now almost 21.
Avatar n tn He needs to go and talk about the outcome of this surgery and if he is on track to full recovery. At that time, he should mention impotence. A lot of erection is mindset and psychological and if you can't feel your leg, still uncomfortable, etc. it may impact that. Talk to the doctor for root solutions . Go gentle on him. Still be intimate but in different ways. And then you can discuss a remedy with the doctor. It should sort out over time.
Avatar n tn The standard response is that the brain cells that were just knocked unconscious usually come back in six months. The recovery of functions that were controlled by the now dead brain cells will require your brain to work on neuroplasticity, basically moving control to another part of your brain. That change can take a long time, I have heard of cases 15-20 years after a stroke and recovery can still take place.
Avatar n tn My left calf has been hurting and aching so I went in and did a scan yesterday, but it was negative for a clot. I am not sure why my leg would be hurting the way that it does or why I can't breathe well, but I am just hoping to hear from some of you on how you felt post surgery and what I can do to feel better.
Avatar m tn My 6 yr old female cat jumped from a tree branch about 5 ft high. She is always jumping up onto ledges or down from them, she jumps very high, always climbing trees, etc. Anyway, her front paw is now swollen and she will not walk on it, she limps all around. She does not seem to be in pain, she still goes up and down the steps and jumps on and off the furniture and beds, going to the food dish etc.

Avatar n tn I only take it at night, but it relieves the leg pain for 24 hours about. They said my leg nerves and muscles are actually convulsing and this is an anti-convulsant drug. But since you are having surgery on Monday, I hope you can wait it out. I'm glad they moved up your surgery - it stinks waiting! You are in my thoughts and prayers for a good outcome!
Avatar f tn I feel very uncomfortable and it is especially hard to sleep at night, but other than that I could not have asked for a better outcome. A lot of my back pain and numbness I had have not shown up at all since the surgery. It could be from all the medications I am on, but we will see! I couldn't eat for a few days, but now I am back to normal! Anyway, I have to get some things ready to go but I will certainly keep everyone posted on my progress.
Avatar n tn I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
