Avatar f tn (He tolerates pain VERY well) The dr says he cant see if the growth plate is broke or not, and he said the long bone looks fractured but he said he doubts it is due to the fact that my son said he doesnt hurt there. His ankle is swollen now..if it has been swollen this whole time I dont know though, I would have taken him in sooner if I had known. My question is, do I need to get him to the orthopedist ASAP, or is it a strain or sprain like the ER Dr.
Avatar n tn I had surgery to fix my broken radius and ulna, a plate was inserted and it's been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
Avatar f tn It was a very bad break with fragments and a considerable empty space at the break. Surgery involved placement of a plate and screws. After 6 months a CT scan shows it has not healed. I have never had a healing problem in my life (do NOT smoke). My surgeon is a top orthopedic trauma doctor at Hospital for Special Surgery. He says that if it has not healed after 6 months it will not heal. He wants to redo the surgery, removing the plate, putting in a bone graft and new plate.
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.
Avatar m tn yesterday i got my cast off which i had for 3 weeks because of skating. i had a fractured growth plate which could not be seen on x-rays so we talked to my uncle who was an orthopedic and he said it was fractured no matter what. the fracture was just a crack. and so he told me to have it for 3 weeks and so i got it off and at first i was really weak with my foot so i gained strength and its back to normal but the only thing i noticed is i cant run or jump or take heavy impact.
Avatar m tn My injuries were, a broken Clavicle (which was treated with a plate and 12 screws) A punctured lung and laserated liver. 11 broken ribs (6 of which were plated. With a total of 42 screws currently holding them together) And last, not least.... A broken pelvis. I am writing you hoping you still read this, desperate for your answers!! I do not recall doing anything... physically to disrupt the placement of the screws. I noticed the bump tho. It's new...
Avatar f tn I go back to the orthopaedic specialist Sept 24, and hope I will be out of the cast from that point on, but will have to wait and see what the x-rays show as far as the amount of healing that is underway at this point. My leg (where the break is/was) doesn't hurt to walk on, either in or out of the cast, but the ankle hurts quite a bit. I am hoping this will improve once I am fully out of the cast and using the leg/foot regularly. Of more concern is the area around the incision.
Avatar m tn First, it is essential to know that what unusual symptoms you are facing after broken screw. It may be possible that broken screw can impinge nerve and lead to some neurological symptoms. Please consult to a neurologist for a detailed approach. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Hello! Im 13 years old and a few years back i did a fly away off of the bars, & landed with my thumb back. I had all the same things happen, But i was NOT able to move my thumb or hand at all. My hand was shattered in three spots! Gymnastics is very dangerous. That same year i also broke my foot, The thought i had a broken growth plate. Truth is doctors don't know what the growth plates are suppose to look like.. Go take her to an orthapedic surgeon! They're fabulous.

1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their Tibia and fibia? I broke mine two years ago and am still having problems. I have a plate and eleven screws. I am thinking of having them taken out in the hopes that it will releive some of the discomfort. Any information from someone who has done this would be great.
Avatar n tn My son is 10 years old. The orthopedist is pretty sure he broke his thumb by the growth plate. He is currently in a cast and is to be reevaluated next week to make sure it is broken and not sprained. Assuming that it is broken, what is the healing period for a boy his age? He plays travel team baseball and is a catcher primarily for the team. Should he be expected to be out the entire summer season? Thank you.
1431839 tn?1290812315 I had asked right after the accident about the need to plate it, or at least better align the bones but was told that it wouldn't be necessary.

Avatar f tn I took a look under your title growth plate injuries, there is lot up there heres one link orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00040- there are plenty more to look at..
Avatar n tn About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
740917 tn?1268247536 Now here we go again ,because his back is literally killing him due to a leg shortage,it is right now 1-2 inches to short, once again I believe they should have stopped the growth plate in his good leg.I always here of things to late.He is only 20 years old ,and way to young to be going through all of this pain. he has severe allergies, and they said, they are putting a titanium rod in it.I would like to know if the rods are made out of fiberglass also.
1196614 tn?1265075773 s my story , i had a broken tibia and fibula as well i was trying tio help a female from getting beaten by his boyfriend , it was slippery oitside my right leg went forward and my left leg went backwards and my big ***( lol ) landed on top of my ankle and distored my ankle and broke my tibia and fibula , i went to the hospital where i stayed two nights then on monday i had to go see the bone doctor at the other hosiptal and told me that your fracture was a bad one .
Avatar f tn t think this is exactly the same thing, but one of my pits had a problem with a growth plate in her front leg where the ulna growth plate closed early and the radius kept growing, causing it to 'jump' the joint. It created something like walking on a permanently dislocated elbow joint. She had orthopedic surgery at 9 months where they sheared off part of the head of the bone and rebuilt the joint. She has been fine since then and just turned 12.
Avatar f tn I have a leg cast for a tibia and fibula fracture, yesterday I hit the cabinet with my cast when my crutch got stuck on the rug I went to the hospital I got casted at for the leg, and they said it looks broken, I see the os tomorrow, what will they do for my big toe!
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn ve had both my femurs broken and my left one twice my left femur has a plate and 6 screws in it now it use to have a plate and 9 screws until it was broke the second time and I have no problems from it at all no swelling no pain really at all.
606078 tn?1247264553 When I first broke my leg and had the initial surgery done, after a year it was still broken (two places) and at that time it was held together with a plate. They went back in and added bone grafts, growth hormone and an implant that was used to stimulate it. It finally healed. Anytime you want to visit me we can hobble around the block with our canes, lol. I always say "I may be slow, but i'll get there!" Take care my friend and have a great day.
499151 tn?1235359642 amount of time for no weight bearing, use of cast/splints,crutches, etc. At this point, I am able to be out of the cast (removable air cast) when I am at home, inside, but wear it outside and when using stairs, etc.Still using the bone stimulator. Most recent x-rays showed healing beginning, but I am nervous that this non-union business may re-occur.
Avatar n tn 11 weeks ago I fractured my left-humerus (clean in half, mid-bone but little closer to elbow) while bench pressing at the gym using heavy dumbbell weights. It has now been 2.5 months (in a cast at first then sling/brace) and still no-union of bone but my arm does feel much better. The doctor said that he did see some minimal amount of callus formation a few weeks ago but on yesterday's x-ray he said it looks worse than it did three weeks ago which is really dissapointing news to me.
Avatar f tn They are still monitoring it, correct? At the time of injury, it is hard to tell how damaged a growth plate is and if it is permanent. Sometimes they follow an injury through growth. Did they recommend physical therapy? Healing time varies but fractures near or over a growth plate can take several weeks to heal.
