Common Questions and Answers about Boniva bone pain

boniva

Avatar f tn I have been on Boniva for bone helath for about two years. I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
1026267 tn?1257591273 Boniva is perscribed both ways and I have neglected to ask the doctor why she perscribed the daily one. When I asked pharacist about the price (last year) it was $200/mo regardless of whether it was taken daily or monthly. Now that I have a different perscription plan, Endo thinks I should check the price again. It isn't just the price that is making me anxious, it is the fact that I wonder if it is a sure preventative.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have noticed that recently I have a lot of pain in my teeth and jaw. This has prompted me to wonder if osteoporosis affects the teeth in general as they are inbedded in bone? And how so?
Avatar n tn ve done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result.
Avatar f tn I was told that it would worsen after the chemo (carbo/taxoterre), and it did. Not terribly, but a decrease in bone mass just that same. I started on Boniva and my cholesterol shot up about 120 points. I just stopped that recently and my numbers dropped by 80 points. Seems there are downsides for everything. Now taking Viactiv with vitamins D & K, 3 chews a day. Will have another bone density next April. I also am fairly physically active and hope that will help.
Avatar n tn Adding a moderate amount of calcium, (around 500 to 600 mg of calcium citrate) a day improves bone mineralization. A number of other nutrients also improve bone mineralization, including vitamin K, magnesium, zinc, green tea, and curcumin. Exercise plays a major role as well, especially resistance exercises. It is critical to avoid high protein diets, since proteins increase acid levels in the body, and this demineralizes the bones (causing osteoporosis). Exercise drives calcium into the bone.
Avatar m tn Her primary issue is the loss of bone in her jaw, leaving some teeth loose. But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments? Bone Marker Tests: TP1NP: 26.57 (Range: 20.00 to 100.0 ng/ml) Vitamins D: 42.27 (Range: 50.00 to 100.0 nmol/l) Osteocalcin: 19.49 (Range: 11.00 to 43.00 ng/ml) B-CTx: . 265 (Range: ???
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar n tn swings of hashis the elevated thyroid hormones could very well have accelerated the bone loss. Some bone loss is natural as we age. We all cannot maintain the bone density of a medium framed 25 yr old (what they base the test scores on) I just received the results of a recent Dexascan. My hip density actually improved but my lumbar L1-L4 had some minimal loss - go figure! I was happy to see some improvement but also bummed about the lumbar. Drat!
Avatar f tn also i seem to have multiple clacifications thoughout my body and bone pain lt.wrist and hand especially my knees and legs . my tsh level for the past yr are high and recently vit d deficiant . i take 112mcg of levothyroxine now .what bothers me the most is the bone pain that limits activity and the fatigue i feel at times . in my heart i feel tsh meds have side effects that really need to be addressed ! IS THERE A CORRELATION FOR WE WOMEN REALLY HAVE TO KNOW.
Avatar f tn Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva? This discussion is related to uveitis of the eye caused by Boniva.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
Avatar f tn Because of my GERD, my doctor prescribed an IV infusion of Reclast. Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery. I will have to figure out something else with an endocronologist?
Avatar n tn Over the last several months I have had lower abdominal bloating, gas, and just recently, pain in my left hip. I mentioned this at my last gyn visit several weeks ago and a vaginal ultrasound was performed. There was fluid present (behind my uterus, I believe) and my endometrial stripe was darker than she would have liked. She had me return 7 days after my period to repeat the vag US and there was more fluid and the endometrial stripe was a little better. A CA-125 was drawn which was 51.
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
294425 tn?1288528395 I tried Fosamax and Boniva, and neither worked for me. They both caused severe flu-like symptoms and severe bone pain (dilaudid barely touched it). After a year I gave up on them (just couldn't take it anymore). Those were both oral medications, so I have no idea about the IV medications. I didn't think they worked any better that the oral (but I may be wrong). Low vitamin D is common with MS.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn A gnawing pain in your bones and muscles. This led to pain in my mid upper arm once in awhile. This spread then to my shoulder, collar bone and shoulder blade. And then to my elbow and wrist on occasion. With sometimes numbness in my pinky finger and the one next to it but that only happened twice. Now is constant and still excruciating if I move just right.
Avatar n tn She does not have any cramping, but they are watery. This all started when she began to take Boniva several months ago. She stopped taking it 2 months ago. I have suggested that it has not all left her system yet and this may take some time. She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. She is 90 yrs old and still very able and mobile.
209384 tn?1231168306 Okay - I'll try to see if I have this correct: Very high doses of thyroid replacement lower the absorption of calcium (putting us at risk for osteoporosis) Lack of female hormone replacement for those post-menopausal (surgical or natural) also increases the risk of osteoporosis Lack of proper calcium intake (with Vitamin D - of course).
Avatar f tn My PA who ordered my bone DEXA scan (since I have osteopenia), had ordered it because it had been 2 yrs since my last one. I had it done on Tues. and they called me today saying that my bone density had worsened and now I'm considered advanced osteopenia 'right before osteoporosis'. They want me to come in to talk to her about further treatment, more aggressive treatment'. My husband thinks that since I just had the 3 mon.
717272 tn?1277590780 of TX) also cause it. Anybody else happen across bone loss after they finished TX? Anyone happen to have a bone density scan before and after TX to compare? My question is "Is it reversible after the meds all finally get out of your system"?
Avatar f tn Hi and I can so relate to your doubts on the mentioned medicines, I have given up on taking any of them and least of all any bisphosphonates the side effects are simply terrible specially Boniva, there is a site about these meds and all the posters are those women who have taken them, you can look it up under "Boniva side effects" or http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21455&name=BONIVA, this is a forum where patients detail the side effects they had.
Avatar f tn The hormones worked pretty well, I noticed a big reduction in the hot flashes, but like you I was having terrible pain in my breasts, and also in my joints. By December the pain got so bad that I quit the hormones cold, and just like you, the hot flashes, night sweats and moods from he** came back worse than ever.
Avatar f tn Once the test results are normal all the symptoms went away except the back and leg pain. Went to a back dr, had x-rays and found out that I have degenerative disc disease. In the last 13 months I have lost my father (87 yrs old), my mother (85 yrs) and a very dear friend that I grew up with. I have a very stressful job 45-55 hrs a week. In November of last yr I noticed the symptoms again and started the process again. went from 2.5 on the thyroid test to over 9.
1611319 tn?1378618399 Lots of the pit hormone issues have overlap in symptoms - fatigue is a biggie. Weight gain happens with a few of them. Hormones can be subtle or out and out in your face so to speak. Moon face sounds more like Cushing's however high cortisol usually suppresses IGF-1. Cortisol also eats bone - lots of bone breakage, dental issues etc. I have lost height from my Cushing's.
