Boniva bone fractures

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva bone fractures

boniva

1026267 tn?1257591273 Boniva is perscribed both ways and I have neglected to ask the doctor why she perscribed the daily one. When I asked pharacist about the price (last year) it was $200/mo regardless of whether it was taken daily or monthly. Now that I have a different perscription plan, Endo thinks I should check the price again. It isn't just the price that is making me anxious, it is the fact that I wonder if it is a sure preventative.
Avatar n tn swings of hashis the elevated thyroid hormones could very well have accelerated the bone loss. Some bone loss is natural as we age. We all cannot maintain the bone density of a medium framed 25 yr old (what they base the test scores on) I just received the results of a recent Dexascan. My hip density actually improved but my lumbar L1-L4 had some minimal loss - go figure! I was happy to see some improvement but also bummed about the lumbar. Drat!
Avatar f tn I have been on Boniva for bone helath for about two years. I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn I was told that it would worsen after the chemo (carbo/taxoterre), and it did. Not terribly, but a decrease in bone mass just that same. I started on Boniva and my cholesterol shot up about 120 points. I just stopped that recently and my numbers dropped by 80 points. Seems there are downsides for everything. Now taking Viactiv with vitamins D & K, 3 chews a day. Will have another bone density next April. I also am fairly physically active and hope that will help.
Avatar n tn Adding a moderate amount of calcium, (around 500 to 600 mg of calcium citrate) a day improves bone mineralization. A number of other nutrients also improve bone mineralization, including vitamin K, magnesium, zinc, green tea, and curcumin. Exercise plays a major role as well, especially resistance exercises. It is critical to avoid high protein diets, since proteins increase acid levels in the body, and this demineralizes the bones (causing osteoporosis). Exercise drives calcium into the bone.
Avatar m tn Her primary issue is the loss of bone in her jaw, leaving some teeth loose. But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments? Bone Marker Tests: TP1NP: 26.57 (Range: 20.00 to 100.0 ng/ml) Vitamins D: 42.27 (Range: 50.00 to 100.0 nmol/l) Osteocalcin: 19.49 (Range: 11.00 to 43.00 ng/ml) B-CTx: . 265 (Range: ???
Avatar n tn t until April, so there would be enough of a space to be able to start Boniva is the bone doctor thought it was a doable plan. I don't want to be on biophosphates for a long chunk of time because of the side effects long term with them. The hormone therapy is not something that I will even entertain. I have had a hysterectomy and have no ovaries ever since age 37. I was on hormones until age 50.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar f tn Are you on any meds for your recently diagnosed condition?
Avatar f tn Do fractures in bones containing Bone Mets increase the spread of the cancer cells?
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn "Stress fractures" are an injury to the bone caused by repetitive strain on the weight bearing bones. They are common in the tibia, tarsals, and metatarsals of the feet. They are one of the most common athletic injuries. They are not related to MS, but could be related to D3, calcium, and/or phosphorus metabolism issues.
Avatar f tn Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva? This discussion is related to uveitis of the eye caused by Boniva.
Avatar f tn I have personally evaluated patients for osteoporosis with prior overuse pelvic fractures who ultimately had normal bone density on their DXA scan. Stress fractures themselves are not indicative of osteoporosis. Fragility fractures-- which include a fracture of the hip, pelvis, wrist, spine, or shoulder sustained during a fall from standing height-- are concerning for osteoporosis.
1200310 tn?1265322110 Some times a fracture, hairline or not will not be apparent on an x-ray. However as the bone begins to heal itself calcium is deposited along the fracture line and they are more easily seen. Hope this has been helpful.
Avatar f tn Fractures are not a common thing to happen with vaginal births. If a women fractures her ribs it would more likely be caused a big increase in pressure or maybe she has some kind of bone problem. The only other kind of fractures that occur are pelvic or tailbone fractures & that is from the baby being large in size or the women is of small stature.
Avatar f tn My 20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures. We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis. His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal. He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began. He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
Avatar f tn hello doc, i got a fracture of cuboid bone on 28 July. I went to the hospital and they applied a back slab and a POP.. I wants to know approximately in how many months my foot will be alright as it was before?? and in how many months wil i be able to wear my heel shoes??
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son hurt his ankle three weeks ago in a soccer game, after two sets of xrays showing no fractures or obvious growth plate concerns, his orthopedic doctor ordered an MRI. He was diagnosed with a mild bone contusion or bruise. The mri showed no issue with ligaments or tendons and confirmed no fractures or growth plate concerns. He has been in an immobilizing walking brace for two weeks now, going on three.....How long does something like this typically take to heal up in a child?
Avatar n tn Finally, 6 months after the injury, with no signs of "Bridging Bone" my Doctor has recommended surgery. As I was expecting, he is recommending the plate and screws surgery that seems to be the most common. My question now is where to get the bone for the bone graft that will be required. The options the doc gave me are either bone material from a "bone bank" or a bone graft from my own hip. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone know how painful the hip graft would be?
Avatar f tn I am glad that you have a great experience with it and reversed your osteopenia/osteoporosis. I know with my mom, it did not work that way for her. She was on bone drugs, calcium/Vit.D for 20 yrs total and still developed osteoporosis with 2 compression fractures in her back. Finally at 79, (she's 80 now), they said, no more bone drugs, they aren't working.
294425 tn?1288528395 I am at extremely high risk for fractures now, especially in my hips, spine and wrists. I need to go on either IV Boniva or Reclast (too advanced for any of the pills to be useful) - anyone know anything about either of them? I am now having to use my cane pretty much whenever I am out of the house, cause my balance is extra bad lately, and I simply can't risk breaking a hip and having to rehab in a nursing home right now.
Avatar m tn One begins at the orbital rim around the lefort II line and ends behind the last upper tooth and the other is about 15 mm beside that on the rim. The bone between the fractures is sunken and has been misaligned and is partly behind the nasal bone. The orbital floor is also sunken and the eye is about 3 mm down and 2-3 mm enophthalmos. I have latent strabismus inward on the eye and occational double vision, more when tired.
Avatar f tn Basically, in normal bone bone formation and bone resorption are closely coupled. When the rate of resorption exceeds the rate of formation there is a decrease in bone mass. The amount of bone necessary to mechanically support the skeleton eventually falls below the fracture threshold. There are many degrees of osteoporosis and treatments available. I am not qualified to suggest a specific treatment.
639543 tn?1297027634 I am not a doctor, but when I was watching extreme make over home edition one time there was a little boy who had a rare bone disorder. I think they called it glass bone disease, or brittle bone disease. Brittle bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta)-What is osteogenesis imperfecta? Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is the most common disease causing fractures in childhood. It also causes fractures in adults.
