Avatar n tn Children up to 5 For children up to age 5, normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dL. Fasting blood sugars should be near the low end of the range. Children 5-11 For children who are between the ages of 5 and 11, normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dL. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL.
Avatar f tn Hello, there is not an easy conversion between unit syringes and cc syringes and you have a very high risk of overdosing (= dangerous). If you are in US you might be able to buy some unit syringes over the counter at wall mart chemist or another chemist. It is very important that you control your blood sugar well. Although it is not widely discussed, it is possible to reuse insulin syringes providing:- 1.
Avatar n tn however, you do need to work out how to do a correction of high blood sugars using humalog. For me, 1 unit of humalog will drop my blood sugar by 2.2 points. So if I am say 9 and wanted to be 7 I would take 1 unit of humalog. btw the coversion between numbers is 18. Hope this helps. Strongly recommend the book "think like a pancreas". See if you can get it from your library or find it in a bookshop. The levemir is not dosed based on your blood sugar at the time of dosing.
Avatar m tn best thing is that you retest with architect for both hbsag and hbsab, then if you find hbsab less than 10miu/ml just have vaccine again
Avatar n tn Left untreated, diabetes causes blood sugar to go extremely high. Your blood sugar of 29 would be considered extremely low. One other thing worries me, fruits, sweets and juice do contain carbohydrates. They are what are called simple carbohydrates. In other words your body breaks them down into glucose very fast. I would talk to a doctor about this as soon as possible since this is having a negative impact on your life.

Avatar n tn You could work it out, I guess. Test your blood sugar. Then inject one unit of insulin and test 2 hours later to see how far your blood sugar has fallen. One unit is not likely to cause any dramatic problem. Please make sure you monitor your blood sugar closely when you are taking insulin as an overdose can be dangerous and and an underdose won't get your sugars down enough. Do you have a past log book as recommended by diabetes86? How high is your sugar?
Avatar f tn He knows his correction dose of novorapid is, for example, 1 unit of insulin will drop his blood sugar by 35 points. Thus, he will use 2 units of novorapid for correction. He is also planning to eat breakfast shortly and will eat 30 g of carbs. He knows that he needs, for example, 1 unit of insulin to cover 10g of carbs. Thus, he will add 3 units of novorapid for his breakfast, giving him a total dose of 5 units of novorapid.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr old son takes total 15 units of insulin doses (4 unit before breakfast, 6 before lunch (fast acting) and 5 unit (long acting)after dinner. He has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since last 4 months. His sugar levels are generally in control although I have not done his A1C test. I want to explore insulin pump for him. I live in India and we don't have insurance to cover the pump and its supplies. I have following questions.
Avatar m tn Something in me decided to check my blood sugar and it was 66. I now believe that the medications were aiding in driving my blood sugar into the dirt. I stopped the propanolol and weaned off of the gabapentin. It's been months, the severe depression went away and improvement in headaches did not go away with the gabapentin. I've learned that triggers for my muscle spams are drops in blood sugar, light, movement, movies.
630344 tn?1280104983 I was just wondering if anyone has tried this and if they have had any help with pain for it? I am 31 years old, and I have constant pain in my neck and shoulders. I had extensive blood work done and nothing has shown up. I get tension headaches from my muscles not releasing. I have tried acupuncture, heat and ice, almost all the muscle relaxers that the docs have prescribed me, dry-heat sauna, massage, stretches, injections, and nothing has helped. Any input is helpful.
Avatar f tn You also need to check out your meter because I highly doubt his blood sugar was 15 and he was functioning well enough to calmly eat cereal. If his blood sugar had been low, cereal is not the proper treatment as it will not raise glucose quickly enough. Glucose tablets are much more accurate and rapid. He needs to learn more about managing his blood sugar.
Avatar n tn m not a doctor and these questions should be discussed with your doctor or nurse educator. It will most likely depend on his blood sugar when he has the snack and how much and what kind of a snack he has. Checking his blood sugar a couple hours he has asnack should also tell you if he needed a little more insulin. But I wouldn't do anything without checking it out with your doctor first.

Avatar n tn It makes a BIG difference when you test your blood sugar [glucose]. Not knowing your country of residence, the following are testing times with US measurement units. The UK and other countries, like Canada, require conversion from mg/dl to mmol/l. ● Fasting - first thing in morning before eating or drinking anything except water.
Avatar n tn The Symogi effect is the tendency of the blood sugar to rise as a result of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can trigger release of hormones such as glucagon that raise blood sugar. The liver would normally respond to declining blood sugar by increasing glycogenolysis, as I discussed above. But insulin inhibits glycogenolysis, and as you may have observed, low blood sugar occurs most often near an insulin peak.
Avatar n tn Adjustment was then done in combination with close monitoring of blood sugars. Ie. I test blood sugar before eating, lets say it is 100. I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough. Next time I eat 45 g of carbs I will try 4 units of insulin).
17593698 tn?1458185817 Snacks are always a difficult thing, you now have to consider how every little thing effects your blood sugar. What works for me are snacks that are low in carbs and packed with protein and fat (mostly protein). Nuts are a good choice, just look for lower sodium options. Jerky and other dried meats are good as well. Also consider fresh fruit but beware tropical fruits (Mango, pineapple, papaya, etc.) these are particularly heavy on sugar relative to size.
Avatar n tn However, when I follow this same regimen in the morning, after breakfast, I come back with a good blood sugar and find that two or three hours later, my blood sugar sky-rockets to sometimes 300. This does not happen later in the day. Does anyone know why this could be, or have any suggestions to keep this from happening?
Avatar n tn At dinner I ate lasagna, salad, sweet tea. Anyway 30-45 minutes after dinner, my blood sugar was 118. Is this normal or does it seem kind of high? At the doctor last year fasting it was 91. Also, I have been suffereing from severe fatigue after my long runs and have to basically sit down for the rest of the day which I hate. I am going to start to check my blood sugar after these runs to see what it is. I eat alot after the long runs but it does not seem to help.
Avatar m tn By mid night around 3 AM when I saw some uneasiness I found that my sugar level is 40 to 50. .If I reduce the unit in evening (8 PM) my sugar level would be more than 200.So please advice.
Avatar f tn I'm 28 weeks and 5 days pregnant and my blood sugar after eating dinner (30 minutes or so) was 79. Should i be concerned?
Avatar m tn i guess it depends how much detail you want to go into. Fibre should have little impact on blood sugar as by definition it cannot be digested. For weight and blood sugar management controlling how much carbs you eat each day is an essential part of management. Some people find that low carb, moderate protein, higher healthy fats diet is helpful in management. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn A month ago, his blood sugar got high enough that we started him back on insulin, Lantus 1 unit/ day and increased to two units a day. Two days after the increase, his blood sugar dropped to 30. Spent the weekend in the hospital. They tried giving him 1 unit after his blood sugar went back up to 300 and it dropped back down to 30. They also gave him an enema as they said he was constipated. We brought him home the next day hoping he would eat better at home.
Avatar m tn I also have persistent low ferritin. I have extremely low energy, frequent blood sugar drop outs and have tried alternative medicine, supplements and dietary approaches including the autoimmune paleo diet with no success. I am very physically active and practice meditation and yoga regularly. Can you suggest other interventions.
