Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar monitor weight loss

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn Hi, Can I ask what insulins you take? Are you on pump or MDI (multiple daily injections). Is your basal insulin taken once or twice a day. If you are going low from exercise, you may need to decrease your basal (this is easier if you are on a pump). Alternatively you may plan your exercise after eating and inject slightly less than usual insulin for the meal, as the exercise will naturally bring your blood sugars down.
Avatar n tn You cannot buy insulin over the counter without a prescription, nor can you buy syringes needed to inject insulin without a prescription. So you first need to go see your doctor. I would do blood tests before each meal and at bedtime each day until your doctor's appointment and write down the numbers that you get on your glucometer.
Avatar f tn Hi, not really positive however when I was diagnosed with diabetes cut out all the food that I was told to, started taking metformin, 1000 mg a day I started losing weight. I lost 10lbs a month for 3 months.
Avatar f tn I think this has something to do with keeping your blood sugar level from dropping. I eat breakfast, a very important meal a lunch and a dinner and a small snack in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. Try not to think of this as eating all the time. Try and think of eating a little bit every 4 hours as avoiding a blood sugar dip. Even a handful of almonds in the morning helps me anyways. Good luck. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I would go to a doctor and get an A1C which is an average of blood sugars for a couple months. Diabetes can cause weight loss as well as gain; at your age and weight you need to be sure and have your type verified if you are diabetic. (by getting a c-peptide and antibody tests) as you may be type 1. Also if you are losing weight you might want to have your thyroid checked. Let us know how it goes.
Avatar n tn I feel sooo uncomfortable with my weight I weight 172 pounds Idk if its so much my weight that makes me uncomfortable or if its just that I'm not so toned its more like floppy how can I lose weight or tine during pregnancy .
Avatar f tn Mid last year when my A1C was 6.9 and I went on a very low carb diet I had taken another A1C at home 3 months later and my A1C went to 7.3 around December 2012. I kept on the very low carb diet, eating mostly proteins - fish fish and more fish I started losing weight really fast. I was originally at 112 - 115 keeping my weight at that by eating a ton on carbs. As soon as I was diagnosed I cut out carbs and now my weight is at 92 - 95 pounds.
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
Avatar f tn I was overweight and finally joined a weight loss group (TOPS). I managed to lose about 36 lbs. Having lost the weight I can now manage my diabetes with my diet. Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar m tn Some people who are very overweight find the weight loss alone reduces their blood sugar dramatically. Then I would suggest cutting out sugar and reduciing carb intake. There is lots of information available online and calorieking.com is a good site that lists carb counts for all foods. (you can also get them on labels of prepackaged foods).
Avatar f tn But, as soon as you increase your level of activity, like when your heart starts beating faster and you have to breathe heavily, your body will stop burning fat and instantly begin to burn blood sugar – because blood sugar can be converted to energy much faster than fat; so anytime your level of activity suddenly increases your body stops burning fat and burns only blood sugar.
Avatar n tn hi, working out an hour/day is great, no need to cut your food intake down because you are already working out, you need only to drink more water (especially warm) it will melt your extra fat off and and you will get your desired weight, if you still wanna try something, you must go for beyond weight management tea,a very good thing for weight management.
Avatar f tn Can someone tell me how high your blood sugar should get before you become alarmed or call the doctor? I have not been diagnosed but a few months and my doctor has not told me much of nothing. My sugar keeps going up and down, my doctor won't put me on medicine(the highest its been is 400+, the lowest 60) Thanks for your help!!!
Avatar f tn Is your doctor prescribing you Metformin? My suggestion is always to try diet, exercise and weight loss first and if those don't lower blood sugar enough then consider meds. Exercise doesn't need to be heavy. Even regular walking can lower blood sugar. There is a lot of information online about diet, but stay away from fad "diabetes diets". Basically carbs are what raise blood sugar, simple carbs raise it worse.
514585 tn?1328740013 You are not diabetic per se and the term is insulin resistant not pre diabetic-and you are that. You CAN get blood sugar down with weight loss and supplements (always get pharma grade not OTC-look for GMP sticker) with alpha lipoic acid and chromium nicotinate which happens to also suppress appetite and more if needed but metformin is not necessary-you are right-get the blood sugar down and then "show her"!

Avatar f tn Hba1c of 6.8 gives you an average blood sugar of around 150. This is definitely diabetic. Non-diabetic Hba1c is < 5 and average blood sugar of < 100. Fasting glucose over 120 will also get you an immediate diagnosis. Best you accept that this is diabetes and do all you can to reverse and address it. Those persons with diabetes who do keep their Hba1c at about 7 do get long term complications from diabetes; kidney, eye, nerve, blood vessel damage.
