Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test results reading

blood-glucose

Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Avatar n tn I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.
Avatar m tn Yes i've had blood glucose tests, and the normal blood test done (cbc, wbc?) A few times, and they all came back normal. The only abnormal test i ever had was Vitamin D, it was extremely low at 4.
Avatar n tn I am 27 and have had many symptoms... high bp (as high as 167/102), daily headaches, extreme fatigue, amoung others. My dr has ran blood tests to check my kidneys, liver, white blood cell count, potassium, sodium, sugar and others... the only thing that came back abnormal was my blood sugar BUT it was a last minute test and I was not fasting. I went back and got my finger pricked and it came back just fine. I also had my urine tested that day and I had 250 mgs of glucose in it.
Avatar f tn I just got home from by blood glucose test and feel really sick and tired. Is this normal? Does it mean something is wrong?
Avatar m tn On the 29th of sept did a fasting blood glucose ,reading was 99 ( on 8 hour fasting). Being confused repeated the test on 30th but with 12 hour fasting it the reading was 107.(all test done at the same lab). Now I am monitoring my blood sugar using glucometer getting normal readings. Occassionaly when i am tense and under stress getting readings which are above 140. Will keep you posted.
Avatar n tn How much the sugar varies from before meal to after meal seems to be the issue here. The glucose tolerance test is the correct test to see how your body reacts to high levels of carbohydrates. It does sound to me as if you perhaps vary more than is ideal, for a low of 57 or high of 256 is something that even diabetics try to avoid.
Avatar f tn I failed the 1 hr test. My reading was 165, and I think the nurse said anything over 130 was over the safe limit. She asked if I ate anything within an hour before ingesting the drink. I did eat a pear on my way to the clinic, but there wasn't a fasting requirement for the 1 hr. She said it may have skewed the reading. I'm scheduled for the dreaded 3 hour test on Thursday. Are you going to have you do the same?
Avatar m tn A very good diabetes test is called an Hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) test. This will measure the average glucose in your blood for the past 3 months. Normal reading is below 6%. A fasting glucose test only measure your glucose at that time, not over a period of time. The HgbA1c provides a better picture to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Okay So I Will Be Taking My First Glucose Test Next Monday! How Long Does It Take ? I Know I Can't Eat After Midnight Does That Include Drinking Too ???

1253246 tn?1332073310 Hey Cindy ..Most DR.(at least here in Canada) will run the ... "Plasma Glucose test" then if there is a higher than normal reading on that they will run the... "Glucose tolerance test" I believe if the reading on that one is higher than 140mg/dl you are considered pre-diabetic and higher than 200mg/dl you are diabetic. The second test is the one GDSgirl mentioned where you drink the sweet stuff and they take blood after a few hrs.
Avatar n tn Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.
490398 tn?1319940717 This is NOT a fasting glucose. My dad is diabetic and he has all of the tools to test blood. He has regular diabetes not Type 2 but it usually skips a generation. I had blood taken at the doctor last week, again, not fasting, for other health problems and it came back at 169. My doc obviously wants to retest me when I've been fasting and get an A1c.
Avatar n tn Perhaps the best test for you would be to find out what your hemoglobin a1c test number is. This is a lab test done on glucose that shows what your AVERAGE glucose level was for the past 3 months. If that number is in the normal range, you probably have little to be concerned about. If you have not had a hemoglobin a1c test done, you may want to ask your doctor about doing it.
11195379 tn?1427921527 Can someone please tell me what this glucose test is I keep reading about???
Avatar m tn The test will only measure the amount of glucose in your blood at the time of the test. What it does is give an indication to whether you are pre-diabetic or diabetic. If you're determined to be borderline diabetic most doctors then order an HgbA1c (A1c) hemoglobin test. The A1c, on the other hand, doesn't care what you consumed the day before, the night before or the week before the test. It measures your glucose over the past three months then gives an average.
