Belly button discharge after laparoscopic surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Belly button discharge after laparoscopic surgery

5528669 tn?1369284605 I had laparoscopic surgery one week ago today and about an hour ago I was looking at my belly button in the mirror cause I keep having bad pains in my belly button and there is a dark brown gooey discharge coming out from the incision. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn (it is usually more than one) Sometimes a person goes in for laparoscopic surgery and ends up getting a laparotomy (open surgery) when the small incisions are just too small for them to work. That requires an at-home recovery of about six weeks and a longer hospital stay. I had a laparotomy, but from what I've seen, the majority of the ladies here that had laparoscopic surgery required more than 3-4 days at home. Hopefully more will respond to you soon.
Avatar n tn I was used to this because a month piror to this surgery i had another surgery to drain a cyst and after that surgery i had very little bleeding. So to see blood after this surgery didn't worry me, but after i had gotten home and had been moving around alot i started to bleed ALOT!! I freaked out and called my doctor and he said that everything was normal that if i hadn't stopped bleeding by the end of my pack of birth control pills to inform him.
Avatar n tn Also I got a call from the surgeon's office to follow up, mentioned a problem that I thought was trivial, and they thought was significant and fixable. So, it can truly help to ask. I felt down after the surgery and I think it was hormones (it was out of character for me), so you think that's happening for you too, especially with all the physical discomfort, it's probably very standard too.
Avatar n tn My urologist said I have a prolapsed bladder, he is waiting to do surgery on that until after this next surgery. I'am discouraged thinking of going through another surgery!
Avatar n tn When it comes, it's a few inches below my belly button, extending down into vagina. It's not a burning feeling--it's more of an ache or stabbing/pulling pain. It's gotten so bad at times that I can't walk or stand up straight, no position makes it go away. I feel pressure and pain when I need to tinkle, and while I am, and after. Sometimes before the pain in the center starts, I feel what kind of feels like cramps on the left side... it kind of migrates down.
Avatar n tn I also had some spotting after surgery, but not much. I did not actually get my first period for about 7 weeks after the surgery. My body just needed time to heal and get regulated again. I wouldn't worry too much unless you keep spotting for long periods of time. Good luck! Everything will work out for you. My husband and I are now expecting again and I am 13 weeks along and this baby is in my uterus!
Avatar n tn The pain is in the lower left pelvic area and spreads up the abs to just above my belly button. When I press low it hurts high- when I press high it hurts low. When I have sex it hurts all over and I have twinges of pain after. The vagina feels fine it is everywhere else that disturbs me. Any suggestions??? Please help.
Avatar f tn 1time for gallbladder surgery, so 8 times through my belly button. Woke up day 2 after this last surgery and I had a hard knot that hurt like everything and my belly button was weeping & gross. Never happened before so I panic. I then start passing clots. So call doctor & he acts kind of like why are you calling me. So, went in Monday, it's infected. I'm taken 1600 mg of an antibiotic a day. Started throwing up this morning, still hurts & the weeping is worse.

Avatar n tn I walked hunched over for a bout two weeks after surgery. My belly button ended up getting infected even with the amt. of antibiotics I was on, leaking out yellow liquid. Now 5 1/2 months later I have been on Lupron every since. I suggest to everyone not to use Lupron, it puts in into menopause and gives your severe hot flashes and mood swings. They have also pinched my sciatic nerve while injecting one of the shots. TO STACE327: I find it very unusual that your Dr.
Avatar f tn It is a little red, but there is a foul smelling discharge coming from my belly button. I guess it's slightly infected? Is this normal, this long after surgery? Any suggestions what I should do to clean it? I'm thinking alcohol or polysporin? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I also read on the info sheet given from my doctor that a light pink or discharge could be expected for up to 6 weeks after surgery. I am thinking when I read this very light, maybe I would need a pantyliner. What I have had has been just like a period, minus the real good red blood. If I had the uterus taken out where is this coming from? Why is it accumulating and passing when I would have my period....Maybe I am in a hurry and it will just take more time to stop all together...
Avatar f tn I had emergency bowel resection surgery in January of 2008. I had two pieces of my intestines removed, one a partially twisted large intestine (volvulous), which the doc said was hereditary and the other was an abcessed diverticulum pocket on my small intestine, which the doc said was unusual. I came through surgery and recovered well, so I thought.... But ever since then have struggled with loose stools, gas, bloating, and weight gain.
Avatar n tn i have like a irritating headache everyday, i have the heartburn every night, i am having to urinate alot more than normally and i have a discharge. Has anyone had these symptoms after TL and been pregnant? I really appreciate the info.....
Avatar n tn After my laproscopy, I spotted/light bleeding for nearly two weeks after surgery. Not really enough to need a full size maxi pad, but enough that I needed the thin ones. I went through maybe 2-3 per day, and towards the end maybe 2 a day, sometimes only one. They told me it was fairly normal, especially because of the weird little machine they put in there (did they tell you about that one? Did you SEE it? I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that thing and realized where it had to go!
298579 tn?1192250448 I am 26 and have this same problem for probably two years, extreme cramping instantly and bowel movement. I too have asked doctors and they tell me nothing. Its not just normal cramping like some people say above. It is so extreme I try to avoid all sex. I cannot avoid it however when it happens in dreams and I wake up in so much pain. The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach.
Avatar f tn I usually have a monthly period every 1st day of the month. Now my belly hurts so bad it felts like after I had my surgery 8-9 in a scale of 1-10. My period just start yesterday but I dont know if I can call this a period cause its very light seems like it a stain only. I usually have heavy period. This raise some concern to me. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn i have a little boy so i know what you are talkin about i get the streching feeling in my abs and in my scar I hope every thing works out for you
Avatar n tn After an examination, she referred me to a Women's hospital here in Vancouver to see if I was a candidate for cryo-surgery. After an exam with a camera the doctor determined that it was not my uterus bleeding, but my cervix was VERY sensitive and would bleed to the touch, and like many of you here during bowel movements, sex, even sitting too long.
Avatar f tn You can always let your doctor know about the incision. 2 years after surgery my belly button had a hole and then a discharge. I think it was a stitch or something trying to work its way out. I would bring it up when you get your staples out. I nurses aide took my staples out so I had no one to ask questions Almost three years out the scar is not so bad. My incision was vertical. I had a nice stomach mow it looks like a sack of potatoes.
Avatar n tn Hi I had a laparoscopic appendectomy last Tuesday, 9/9. Almost a week post-op, I'm feeling pretty much back to normal. As part of my discharge instructions, I was told that if I ran a fever of 101 or greater or redness and swelling at the incision site, I should go to the emergency room immediately. Were I in your situation, I would get myself to the emergency room ASAP. That does not sound right to me, and it seems that you are very worried. Good luck!!!!
Avatar n tn I can also feel a pulling on my belly button at times. My main thing is I don't usually spot before and after my period. Plus, my periods don't last 8 days either.
Avatar f tn I have 8 days to my 1st beta test after my ET on Aug 12. Out of 11 mature eggs only 4 fert after icsi and only 1 viable embryo. I too had OHSS after egg retrieval and am really hoping that this works. So far no signs of period coming so keeping fingers crossed. Does anyone know how many days after ET a period will come if it didn't work?
1488094 tn?1289350916 I've been recently buying more pjs and nice big comfy jogging pants to lay around the house in after surgery- I've also been making and freezing food as my hubby is not the best of cooks and I'm sure I wont be able to much after the surgery for a while! Try not to stress about it too much- just think about how much better you will feel once its all over. Would love to hear how you get on as I think our stories are pretty similiar- best of luck.
Avatar n tn Only hours after my surgery, I had a pushy nurse insisting that I get up (for the second time in one hour) to go to the bathroom. I was asking for a bed pan b/c I was in pain and exhausted from my prior trip. I was in the hospital a total of 31 hours (including the time they operated on me) before I was made to leave (they wanted me to leave at the 24-hour mark). So I felt as if the faster and more activity that I performed, the better.
Avatar f tn I would really like to hear from your experience what to expect both before and after surgery. What kind of preparation for surgery will I do at home? What kind of preparation will I have in the hospital? How long do I have to wait after surgery to leave the hospital? Do I get to go home right after I wake up? Is anything done after I wake up? What is recovery like? Will I need someone to be with me the next couple of days or can I manage on my own?
Avatar n tn I haven't had that pain since surgery (except now my belly button is infected 4 months later.. crazy,. my RE said it was probably just a hair follicle) When I push on it I no longer get that shooting pain. I think what complexsimplicity said sounds pretty correct. If the naval connects to other points in the body, it could be lots of things. In my case it was endometriosis but it could be a number of things. Best of luck!
485259 tn?1519050626 If you read it right after surgery read on an empty bladder and on fresh medication so you don't hurt so bad when you are laughing!
603463 tn?1220630455 HCG usually becomes detectable in the urine about 10 days after conception, or about 4-5 days before the missed menstrual period. Because it can be difficult to know exactly when conception occurred, or when exactly the period is supposed to start, most experts recommend waiting 5-10 days after the period is late to ensure that the test is accurate. Most pregnancy tests on the market will show a positive result by 7-10 days after the missed menstrual period.
