Hello, First possibility is of a fungal infection of the belly button which may produce foul smelling yellowish or black discharge from the fungus and belly button is a humid place for fungus to thrive. If however the discharge is present throughout then possibility of a fistula is there where an abnormal passage forms between one organ like intestines and the outside of the skin. For the last several years (I have no idea when this started, I just began noticing it), I have had yellow, crusty discharge coming from my belly button. It is not continuous, but rather comes and goes every week or so. I am a very clean person and bathe/shower regularly, and I am not very overweight (5"4' at 130lbs), so I don't believe it is lint or dried sweat or anything, It smells very bad, and is sometimes so strong that I can smell it through my shirt.

My belly button didn't itch but the rest of my stomach did around 30 weeks. The skin is under a lot of pressure so that's probably why it's itching. Use a moisturizer to soothe it if it's really bothering you. I'm 39 weeks and my belly button is completely inside out at this point haha.

What I'd be concerned with is one of the risks of the procedure which is improper healing of the incision. If it has any odor at all, it is very likely infected. This is hard to explain but if you rub his stomach in tiny clockwise circles moving from just right of his belly button up to the top of his tummy across and down to the left side of his belly button it will stimulate him. You can also rub around his sphincter with a bit of jelly to relax the sphincter muscle. Google if you are confused about the stomach thing. I am sorry it really is hard to explain without showing.
