avonex

Avatar f tn Sigh, I have a question from a friend. She would like to know if avonex causes calcium deficiency? She is diagnosed with ms. Not like me.
1746440 tn?1311509508 t find much about this as a side effect on-line) or am I in that lucky 4% of Avonex users who have hair loss. If it is the Avonex, will it stop as my body gets used to the drug? Good God I hope so! Any insight is appreciated, as this is really stressing me out.....which can also cause hair loss!!!
233622 tn?1279334905 I've been taking (generic) Wellbutrin for years. It helps my depression and my ADD. The only dangerous side effect I've ever heard of, is it can cause seizures in some people, so they up the dose very slowly to make sure you don't get them. I got off the SSRIs for the same reasons as you.
649926 tn?1297657780 Hi! I am sorry for all of you that are also suffering hair loss. As if we don't have enough to deal with! My family thought that I was making a big deal out of nothing until I washed my hair and ran my hands through and came away with a full hand of hair. We are not talking your usual hair loss here!
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I just saw your post and wanted to send my condolences for your loss. It's tough to lose anyone, but his young age makes the loss particularly tragic and sad. So sorry for you and your family.
Avatar f tn m pretty sure that I have seen someone on this site ask about hair loss with Avonex, maybe they will see this and answer you.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has experienced weight gain while on Copaxone. I have been putting on weight al while I have been carefully watching my calories. I have been on Copaxone for 4 months and previously had been on Avonex for 15 years. Any input would be appreciated.
405614 tn?1329144114 Hello there, blast from the past. :) Nice to hear you've continued to do well with the fitness and weight loss but sorry that you need knee surgery. I don't use Avonex but as far as injecting the night before surgery, why not just use another site since there are so many others you can use? Re: bronchitis/ asthma/ MS flare, I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.
252144 tn?1227422620 My neuro, who does a wartload of research on AVonex and Tysabri, told me that Avonex "hits its full effect around 6 months," and when I was having symptoms at that time (actaully for me it was 7 to 8 months) did not feel that Avonex had been given a full chance. I think 6 months is jumping the gun a little, just based on the words of one of the major researchers, but I can't tell you that I really know.
195469 tn?1388322888 Anyway, I have a little stinging at the injection site, (thank god for all this hanging skin at my belly, which looks like the mud-flaps off an 18 wheeler, since my large weight loss) but other than the slight stinging, no side effects, that CAN happen right after injection. If you do have an immediate side effect, it usually consists of some heart palpatations, some possible chest pressure and anxiety, etc., but in my case, thank the dear Lord, nothing. I feel absolutely fine. I DID IT!
288459 tn?1201291329 I was dx in January & started Avonex in February. Prior to this I have always been known as very easy going. I work in a highly stressful job, but have for 15 years and I have always rolled with the punches. After my dx & starting Avonex I noticed myself becoming a bit testy. Now 8 months later I believe I am no longer able to roll with those punches. So my 2 parted question would be, does this sound remotely familiar to anyone and any suggestions to controlling emotions?
233622 tn?1279334905 If I could get 20 off I would be happy. Some people have said they lost weight on Avonex because the side effects are flu-like and can cause upset stomach. The sad thing for me is when I have an upset stomach I generally want to eat MORE because having something in my stomach helps calm it. I need to be more careful about what I eat. I have been eating apple sauce today. That is better than toast for me.
4735388 tn?1358539687 My new Neurologist wants to put me on this med. I don't no much about it i was on Avonex before but it made me really sick and by the time i felt better it was time to take another shot i have kinda a needle phobia anyway i haven't been taking anythig for awhile but i was just wondering what your thoughts were on GILENYA ??
Avatar f tn I will start with a quick update. Since I have posted my last post I have had a full spinal MRI on a 1.5T. ( the radiologist was a total jerk when I asked what magnet was in the machine) They ordered this because I was falling. Since then I have had burning sensation and sharp like pains that feel like nerves bursting thats quite painful and muscle spasms have started to move my finger. (very creepy) Well I went to my hair dresser tonight and she told me my hair is FALLING OUT!
97654 tn?1214348650 Hi, I was recently diagnosed with MS and had my first Avonex injection Friday. Friday night was tough (fever, chills, pain and eventually heavy sweating) but I felt pretty good by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I started feeling kind of down and by Sunday morning I feel even more so. I can't decide if this is a result of the drug or just the situation as a whole.
400099 tn?1282954864 Is anyone on avonex? My dr. wants to switch me to avonex, but with having lupus, I really don't want to go on an interferon. I'm on copaxone, now but because I have large welts on my arms he wants to switch me. I don't want to switch. Do I have the right to deny a new medication I feel would be detrimental to me?
Avatar f tn Flu-like symptoms are a fairly common side effect during the initial weeks of Avonex treatment. It is recommended that you take your Avonex injection before bedtime. Immediately before your injection, and for the 24 hours that follow the injection, patients have found that use of over the counter pain and fever reducing medications can help with this common side effect." You could also get on the Avonex website for further info. good luck. hope that you feel better soon.
1125401 tn?1262898927 I have been on copaxone for little over a year its not working for me so my neuro has asked me to try avonex. My avonex nurse is coming this evening but I am wondering how long you actually gave it to get the symptoms of the shot to calm down. I am crossing everything to hope I dont get the flu symptoms so bad but we will see. I have a husband that works away and 3 small kids to care for, I dont want to be in bed all weekend when its the only time we get to spend as a family.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, When I was on the Avonex I had terrible itchy skin. I would start scratching and I would well up from the scratching. I also found that it dried out my skin as well. I use pure coconut oil right out of the shower then gold bond lotion right over the top of the oil. It seems to be helping tremendously. The oil soaks in quickly and the lotions seems to seal in the moisture. I hope this helps. Sorry you have this to deal with on top of everything else.
Avatar f tn Just wondering how many Avonex users stuggle with depression. I usually get emotional a week before my period...but this time around it is going into 2 weeks. I don't want to start an antidepressant if its not necessary but I have been emotional, feel blah, and very tired. Maybe its just coming to terms with the diagnosis...Im not sure. I have been taking avonex for 9 weeks. If you are on an antidepressant what made you decide it was time to start it?
