Avatar m tn increased risk of heart attacks, and for having GSK funded doctors on the avandia approval board, etc... I'm not making definitive statements that avandia is bad (or good)... just explaining my reasons for being cautious until lots of other people (who need it more urgently... for diabetes, etc.) try it out.
Avatar n tn s findings that Avandia may increase the chance of heart attack by almost 50 percent. The troubling part about the government's sudden change of opinion regarding Avandia is that it comes several years after researchers had warned about the problems associated with using the drug.

Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar n tn Also go on the websites of the manufactures, sometimes they have coupons for a % off your bill. When I joint the avandia program I got a couple months free avandia, plus they send coupons at times. Also ask your md for samples. I use to work at a doctors office and we got enough samples to open a pharmacy. Another thing, if your job offers a flexible spending account, I find that is nice as well. it reduces your taxes and you can contribute up to 3000 a year to them. good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi Rose, If the tingling/numbness sensations started about the same time in your legs, feet & arms, I doubt it the diabetes is the primary culprit. This sounds like a pinched nerve or some type of mechanical issue. Diabetes that is uncontrolled can cause those symptoms, but I wouldn't expect to hear someone say all this started at once from diabetes. You don't say if you've minimized your risks for the other family problems ... heart disease, stroke & cancer.
95361 tn?1219870284 I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about? I see my doctor in a week and a half, but do I need to contact her before then if this happens again?
Avatar f tn Yes, i was put on Avandia for Type 2 abt 5 years ago. Since then my #'s have improved with diet and exercise to the point that a new Dr. said she saw no reason for me to be on Avandia and i have since stopped useing it. It was never vy high, around 159 or so when it was diagnosed. If i am not careful of my diet it can jump up to the 130's to 140's. Am also on diovan for HBP which is usually under good control with the 1 med.
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
Avatar m tn Avandia is a dodgy one sometimes due to heart issue , its been withdrawn across Europe ASAIK , might be worth checking,
264233 tn?1216342315 O) i also forgot to mention that i am taking avandia for the last 18 mths and just went thru hep c tx ( without success ) and was wondering if anyone has heard of heart blockages developing from using avandia or interferon/ribaviran tx. this 70% blockage seems to have come rather quickly. i say that because while i was on tx for hep c this new blockage was not there ( heart cath jan 2007 ) and one year later it is.
Avatar n tn Metformin is in general, a good medication. There are others in the class such as Avandia. You can talk to your doctor about this. You might try drinking more water, eating more fiber (vegetables, whole grains), taking psyllium seed fiber and walking regularly. Each of those can help. Of course, there is always the laxative option but it's best to try the others first. Take it with meals, this helps. Onglyza is another alternative medication idea.
Avatar m tn For myself, I now, after going off Avandia, have an average of 99. I watch my diet, walk and exercise daily and have lost abt 20 lbs . My Dr put me immediately on Avandia but with the inexcusable news of the possibility of its affecting ones heart, i stopped using it. My new Dr. questioned my ever being on it in the first place.
Avatar f tn Since it is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, this is important to find out. The current recommended treatment is niacin in a dose of 1-3 grams daily. However, please do not take it without asking your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn please learn about heart disease and organic natural nutritional supplement than will improve your heart condition.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your time. I know that my LAD has no calcification. The number was zero. Your number is extremely high. I know that I have plaque halfway down the abdominal aorta vessel. I don't think that is consider heart disease maybe aorta disease. (not sure) Once again thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn If stenosis of the mitral valve has occurred, giving a murmur, it could be the result of an underlying cause by infection or birth defect, making the heart work much harder than it needs to. This can lead to eventual heart failure. Of course heart disease can also cause the heart to adapt, enlarge, and force the mitral valve out of shape, making a murmur. So while a murmur itself doesn't give the pain, you can obviously have heart problems and pain while a murmur exists.
