Avandia and heart failure

Common Questions and Answers about Avandia and heart failure

avandia

Avatar n tn She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?
559053 tn?1274913374 GSK has maintained that its extensive research involving over 50,000 patients has shown that Avandia does not increase the overall risk of heart attack, stroke or death compared to other diabetes drugs. "We continue to believe that Avandia is safe and effective when it is prescribed appropriately," the company said in a statement.
Avatar m tn increased risk of heart attacks, and for having GSK funded doctors on the avandia approval board, etc... I'm not making definitive statements that avandia is bad (or good)... just explaining my reasons for being cautious until lots of other people (who need it more urgently... for diabetes, etc.) try it out.
Avatar m tn s diabetes medication, Avandia. This came one year after public charges of cardiac and liver safety were leveled against GlaxoSmithKline regarding the drug. GSK continues to maintain that Avandia is no less a threat to the liver than its competitors.
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
Avatar m tn I use Actos, but for some reason my fingers typed Avandia. Our FDA went through the same review on Avandia recently, and reluctantly left it on the shelf; however, it is used only when patients are found refractory to other, similar drugs, I believe. FlGuy, although I was down to 185 pounds at one point during treatment, I’m currently the lankiest 6’ 0” 250 pounder you’ve ever seen :o). I’ve always led an active lifestyle, so I don’t fit the sedentary profile of typical DM II patients.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
Avatar n tn Due to our insurance company copays, we are spending more per month on diabetic supplies than we can afford. Is there a pharmacy that will accept what the insurance company pays and not require the copay? I know such things exist for Type 2 on Medicaid, but what about for type 1? Thanks!
1236243 tn?1277680851 ve been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
Avatar m tn I'm sure you are very worried. Let me try to help.............a bit. First of all - I have experienced Pulmonary Edema on 2 serious occasions in '08. Both - life threatening..........the second - so life threatening that I experienced Respiratory Failure at my local hospital and had to be airlifted to the central hospital here in Maine. I was put in a coma and was not expected to live. I am a 58 y.o. male with an Ejection Fraction of 10-15% since '03.
Avatar m tn I got an Ekg and an Ecg both came out normal but I heard those test arent conclusive to a clogged heart?
Avatar n tn She should see a cardiologist for the fluid in her lungs and a diuretic medication can help that condition. I had lung edema from heart failure and it is not very pleasant experience...feels like I was breathing through a cloth and not getting enough air and coughing was just as bad. Yes, there can be a full recovery depending on the underlying cause. There is effective therapy for heart patients so don't give up.
Avatar m tn why this odd disassociation between heart failure and NSVT when there ought to be a corelation? Also, which is more unsafe- heart failure symptoms without NSVT or NSVT without heart failure symptoms?
Avatar m tn My Patty was diagnosed with Heart Failure 10 days ago, he had been doing pretty good, not liking taking his meds but now he is NOT wanting to eat and when we make it liquid and squirt it down his throat, it has started coming back up. He has no problem drinking and peeing. He is a month over 15 years old and my precious baby. Any ideas out there, he goes back to his dr in 2 days but I am about sick, his mom died of kidney failure and I hate to think this is happening to him.
Avatar f tn My parents are planning my funeral just in case it hurts me to even talk about it and there asking me how I want my funeral. I dont care I just dont want to die. All family and friends have been here with me, but I just want evreyone to go home and leave me alone I do not want to talk about death. All they do is sit around me and cry I dont want them to feel sorry for me because that just makes me even more upset.
Avatar f tn Palpitations are like headaches. By themselves they mean nothing. In rare instances a headache could be a brain tumor. A palpitation could mean anything. Sometimes it's something serious. If it is a rare occurance it probably is nothing. If it happens a lot, it is probably something, but the overwhelming odds are that something is far, far, far less sinister a medical condition than heart failure.
Avatar n tn I now have many of the long term complications. The one that is most difficult is heart failure, specifically diastolic heart failure. I would like to communicate with others who are dealing with this to see if they experience the same issues that I do. I was diagnosed with this heart condition 5 years ago, and have had a triple bypass 2 years ago. The problems result from the interaction of the heart condition with my diabetes. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am worried about heart failure. Do you think they would have been looking for heart failure when I went to the ER? And given the information I have given you does this sound like a possibility of heart failure?
Avatar f tn How do we define heart failure? Am I correct to say that it does not refer to an absolute state but more to the degree of inefficiency of the heart in performing its function? Is it true that when a person has heart failure, it doesn't mean that his/her heart is going to stop beating soon, and that death is imminent? A cousin of mine has had chronic atrial fibrillation since 3 months ago.
Avatar f tn What concerns me is this - for the last couple of years, I have been having spells of tachycardia and now have a resting heart rate of 110-130bpm. This constant tachy state leaves me tired and breathless.
Avatar m tn Today there are incredible treatments and devices and of course there is always the possibility of a heart transplant!! How do you feel, what symptoms and diagnose do you have.
328381 tn?1269364102 If there is right side heart failure, that can cause edema of the lower extremities and left side heart failure can contibute as well. You should consult with your doctor to rule out any serious condition.
Avatar f tn They may have a diagnoses of Heart Failure; Congestive heart failure would be more of a flair=up of the disease. Why does this person think she has CHF?
1467724 tn?1286430368 She was hospitalised because of pneumonia but they checked her blood count and found out about her high sugar level and today it was all about her heart. Is this for real? Is it heart failure? I pray not.
Avatar f tn All who suffer from heart disease have a statistically higher risk of a heart failure than does the general population who do not have heart problems. This is true too as we go into higher age groups, the older one is the more likely they will experience a physical failure of some type or another. I suffer from AFib myself and know I am at higher risk for additional heart problems, and for stroke even though I take an anticoagulant (Warfarin).
Avatar f tn The word Congestive Heart Failure is such a negative term, I wish there was an effort to give it name that wasn't so negative. As Ireneo mentioned, if the heart's ability to pump blood drops below a 40% level of efficiency, the term Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is used to describe the heart health. A heart attack can weaken the heart to a condition where CHF is a term used to describe it, but through exercise, drugs and diet one can improve the heart function dramatically.
