He thought I had a secondary infection in the uterus and gave me Augmentin to take along with the other I am taking. It has been 36 hours and my breast is still really red and sore. I don't know what to do! I am worried that it may lead to sepsis?? Or should I not be worried since I am taking augmentin? It is the weekend, so I can't call my doc again. I haven't had a recurrence of fever or chills. Was the fever just a symtom of Mastitis?
because of redness, swelling and pain in my left breast. He said that he believed it was mastitis but sent me for a mammogram and sonogram which both came back fine. However, I have now developed a pain and what feels like a lump under my arm and these pus filled pimple like things on the red and swollen area of my breast. should I be worried about this. I also had blood work done four days before the original symptoms appeared that came back fine. Please help me.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

If you were on penicillin and it did nothing after 48 hours or so, then you should go back to the doctor then. Penicillin has resistance associated to it and they will often use Augmentin if penicillin doesn't work because it has an added agent to it that makes it have much less resistance. I wouldn't wait too weeks and call your doctor when it is 72 hours past when you started the antibiotics. Is it your throat or your skin that is infected?
I went to ER and i have Mastitis, the pain was so terrible that it started radiating in my back and i couldnt left my right arm. I had switched to nursing DD at night when i went bacxk to work(she is7 months now. So i was deciding not to BF any more but i wasnt sure when would be a good time, since i have mastitis and the medication that im on the ER dr told me to pump and dump for the next 10 days, so i figured this would be a good time to stop BF.
I am a 35yrs old diagnosed with mastitis about 2 months ago by my family doctor. I went to my family MD with a breast lump, lump under my arm, and all the classic Mastitis symptoms. Mammogram and ultrasound did not detect a problem. 4 rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids later, still have a lump. Had a repeat ultrasound last week that detected a 1cm by 3/4 cm lump and 5 enlarged lymph nodes. Biopsies on both came back benign, thank God!

It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
I am a breastfeeding mom of a 7-month-old baby boy. In my 7 months of breastfeeding my baby, I went to the doctor twice because my breasts became tender and whenever breast milk comes out, my breast felt sore. I have been terrified lately that I have gotten mastitis from my boyfriend sucking on my nipple? I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis just a month ago. I had a normal mammogram back in Sept.2010, in early April my left breast was sore (but I didn't think much of it because I exercise), then one day my left nipple was inverted (which is abnormal for me), and that's when I felt a hard mass. I had a biopsy with ultrasound, later biopsy to get samples, then an excisional biospy 3 days ago. I'm in no pain, feel great which is so weird about all this.
Anyone had mastitis b4? what were your symptoms. My right breast hurts around the areola and nipple area, also my nipple sorta went flat and wont erect, it also feels like fluid is around the areola area. Going to see lactation consultant today to see whats going on.
From your post, it seems that you are having an inflammation of the breast (mastitis). It is common among breastfeeding mothers. However, it can also occur in non-breastfeeding women as well. Lymph nodes may enlarge secondary to the inflammation.
I agree with a referral to a breast specialist. Breast cancer can sometimes be mistaken as mastitis. There is a type of breast cancer, i.e., inflammatory breast cancer that is very similar to mastitis in presentation.
I'm 32 and breastfeeding and being treated for mastitis without the Nurse Practioner ever looking at my breast. I had mastitis several times with my daughter and never once did I have the dimpling; I also always had a 101 fever with my mastitis. This started as a pea sized lump and I emailed the doctor's office. The nurse said it was likely a clogged duct, massage it. Now a little over a week later it's a half dollar size flat lump under my areola.
If it's not red and no fever, you probably don't have mastitis. Mastitis is an infection in the milk duct that causes pain, fever and you need antibiotics. You may have a blocked milk duct. Call your obstetrician and they'll give you other ways to manage it. Good luck. I know how painful it can be.
