After two days of treatment, I developed side effects to the Cipro (muscle and joint pain). I was taken off the Cipro and was put on Augmentin (twice a day) for 21 days, which I began taking today. My urologist advised me that if the Augmentin does not work, then there is not a whole lot he can do to improve my condition given that there are no other antibiotics that could be helpful. I just got a PSA done, and I am awaiting the results.

My boyfriend was prescribed 1 gram of Augmentin twice daily for 3 weeks for acute bacterial prostatitis. He hasn't actually received his urine test results yet though, so not sure what type of bacteria it actually is. Is this an appropriate treatment?

OK, prostatitis, not proctitis. True prostatitis is rare in men under age 40, and sexually acquired nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) is often misdiagnosed as prostatitis by physicians not up to speed on STDs. I wonder whether that's what you really had. True prostatitis is not due to any STD.
It is possible but uncommon to catch NGU from oral sex. As for your test results, the gonorrhea and chlamydia results show for sure you were not infected during the oral sex 2 weeks ago.
) also due to my anal sex habit there was a great chance of having Enterococcus faecalis in my prostate and Augmentin seemed a good choice to eradicate Enterococcus faecalis.
5. Augmentin (Co-Amoxivlac) : 625mg 3 times per day for two weeks.
I had Augmentin for complete two weeks and bingo the symptoms had gone, but 3 days later It slowly came back and ruined all my excitement of the victory.
Hey Dr. Hook. I just came back from the urologist's office and I was diagnosed with prostatitis. The prostate exam confirmed that I have an inflamed prostate and I was prescribed Levaquin for 14 days.
I guess I did end up catching a bacterial infection from my encounter - but not Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. I just hope that my prostatitis infection resolves - as I have read about severe cases in which the prostate had to be removed to relieve the patient from the agonizing pain.
I understand that bacteria or infection in the prostate is hard to reach and cure therefore could the STD bacteria still be in there and thus causing the prostatitis? Can I pass it along if deep in prostate and thus not detected by STD tests? Given the course of antibiotics that I just completed would a STD test for gonorrhea or chlamydia in any bodily site yield any result?

Well. today I went to the doctor. urine exam reveals presence of Leukocyte. Infection is detected. Couldn't perform culture because I already started to take augmentin last night. She didn't think I have prostatitis because she think I'm too young for to have that!.
She rather is sure that I do have UTI.
Was given a shot of rocephin and doxycycline 100mg 2/day.
Do think doxycycline is the best anti-biotic in my case?
so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.
Because I had been previously diagnosed (and treated with 1000mg Amoxicillin three times daily) with a sinus and left ear infection about a month earlier he suspected that I could possibly have some type of resistant sinusitus and prescribed Augmentin XR (1000 mg) 2 pills twice a day. I had oral sex again with the asymptomatic guy again on 4/11. I was informed by the guy who developed gonorrhea of all this today, 4/14, and have not had sex with him since before his symptoms began.

9 June 2008: no improvement, went to ENT who thought it were my tonsils.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

It is highly likely that Augmentin in the dose and duration I just recommended would abort incubating gonorrhea -- which almost certainly you didn't catch anyway. You can safely take the drug then continue unprotected sex with your wife.
The problem here isn't just STD; you apparently are reacting emotionally to the sexual event, perhaps conflicted about your own sexual orientation or preferences. But this isn't a counseling service, so that will be all for this thread.
was aware I had the seizure problem and prescribed cipro, which I had to call and tell them to send me something different. The one at the pharmacy now is Augmentin. Just need a neurologist`s expert opinion as to whether or not it is alright to take Augmentin with my myoclonic seizure condition. Do not want to start up any seizures. However, this UTI is hurting so badly!!! If It is too risky then I can`t take it!!!! Please help me.
Augmentin will affect your pill. The other one I do not know about. It probably takes a couple of days for the antiboitics to get out of your system. You might wanna use a second form of protection just in case.

I don't know what to do! I am worried that it may lead to sepsis?? Or should I not be worried since I am taking augmentin? It is the weekend, so I can't call my doc again. I haven't had a recurrence of fever or chills. Was the fever just a symtom of Mastitis?
maybe Flomax only helps if you have a UTI though to better flush infected urine out? it seems though that the semen will empty into the bladder then and be flushed out of your system instead of going to the urethra so I don't know if that is good or not?
I've read of long term loss of STRENGTH on Flomax and possible sexual dysfunction.
