Avatar f tn I have severe diverticulits and history of bowel abcess. I started having a diverticulitis flareup about 3 weeks ago with on and off symptoms for about 2 weeks. Becaause of my history of bowel abcess and the fact the symptoms became more constant I was prescribed Augmentin. Now 2 days in I have diarrhea. Should I discontinue the augmentin? If not, what is the best way to treatthe diarrhea?
187666 tn?1331173345 Tuesday things only got worse. I ended up in ER with all the usual treatments. They did a CT scan and said I had diverticulitis. What a nasty little surprise. They did an IV bag of Zosyn, sent me home finally with plenty of metronidazole (QID) and SulfaTrim (BID). The intense abdominal pains have eased but now I feel like I have the "stomach flu" - just cramps, gurgling, nausea and watery stools every hour or so.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed and treated for diverticulitis 12/31/12 with flagyl and augmentin. By mid-January I became much more ill with significant diarhhea, nausea, fever, and left lower quadrant pain. I was negative for c-diff 1/12/13 but tested positive 16 days later. I was prescribed a 14 day course of vancomycin. I have been taking florastor for weeks to hasten return of normal flora. Even after treatment diarhhea has been evident with extreme nausea on some days, and painful abdominal spasms.
Avatar m tn Four months ago I developed pain in my lower left abdomen. It felt like a tearing/cutting pain and was quite localized. My bowel habits remained the same, but my G.P. thought it might be IBS and prescribed buscopan and trimebutine. They didn't have any effect and the pain got worse, particularly when I was sitting or physically active. When the pain began to radiate into my groin and left testicle my G.P. sent me for a C.T. scan.
Avatar m tn But when waste gets stuck in there, an infection develops from the clog, it gets all irritated, and that hurts, and that is called diverticulitis, which "itis" means irritation, sickly. So, the antibiotic Avalox the doc gave you clears the infection, and liquid diet gives the irritated place a chance to heal over. An infection might not necessarily be picked up on a CT scan, you see, but pain and a couple other signs will tell, like a slight fever.
Avatar m tn so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.
Avatar n tn A colonoscopy is how most diverticulitis is discovered, and yes it is safe.
Avatar m tn Al, Son, yes, diverticulitis CAN get out of control and cause all sorts of damage, as the poster Coughting said, and I am doubly SORRY, Al, that I left out of my original post some points on that one. Diverticulitis MIGHT lead to surgery, and so as I had suggested in my first post, you should go back to your primary, which you said you'd call Monday, and get a new gastro to do the colonoscopy.
568617 tn?1216787649 Upper abdominal bloating (and burping) is mostly due to H. pylori infection. Lower abdominal bloating (and flatulence) can be from excess fibers, lactose intolerance, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, diverticulitis...or IBS. So, you can have a test for H. pylori. You can have a lactose-free diet trial for a couple of days (no dairy products at all). If this doesn't help, try to limit fibers in your diet (mainly fruits, raw vegetables and cereals).
Avatar n tn Because I had been previously diagnosed (and treated with 1000mg Amoxicillin three times daily) with a sinus and left ear infection about a month earlier he suspected that I could possibly have some type of resistant sinusitus and prescribed Augmentin XR (1000 mg) 2 pills twice a day. I had oral sex again with the asymptomatic guy again on 4/11. I was informed by the guy who developed gonorrhea of all this today, 4/14, and have not had sex with him since before his symptoms began.
Avatar n tn From the symptoms I really thought I might be pregnant, bloated, nausea, diarrhea, light headed, exhausted all the time, but I knew I couldnt be with birth control and I had a test before the BC. Turns out its diverticulitis. Symptoms to me seem very similar. Never had a child though so I cant say for sure. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working. I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18. Thank you!!
250701 tn?1320974765 My lung Doctor called me in some augmentin because I have been coughing up thick yellow mucus. I just don't know if I can take it on treatment. Does anyone know??
Avatar f tn I filled the prescription but before I could start taking it, I had another diverticulitis attack. I am currently taking flagyl and levaquin for the diverticulitis. I am also on omeprazole daily. My question is how do I manage these two conditions when one requires a high fiber diet and the other a low fiber.
Avatar n tn About 3 weeks ago I had a sudden onset of pain in my stomach between my ribcage and my hip, left side, halfway between my naval and side. Pain got worse over the next few hours. Called doctor on call (it was evening) and he suggested I go in to ER to have it checked out, could be kidney stone. Urinalysis came back ok so they wanted to do CT with contrast instead of no contrast to check for diverticulitis. In the meantime my white blood count came back a little high.
Avatar m tn It is highly likely that Augmentin in the dose and duration I just recommended would abort incubating gonorrhea -- which almost certainly you didn't catch anyway. You can safely take the drug then continue unprotected sex with your wife. The problem here isn't just STD; you apparently are reacting emotionally to the sexual event, perhaps conflicted about your own sexual orientation or preferences. But this isn't a counseling service, so that will be all for this thread.
Avatar f tn was aware I had the seizure problem and prescribed cipro, which I had to call and tell them to send me something different. The one at the pharmacy now is Augmentin. Just need a neurologist`s expert opinion as to whether or not it is alright to take Augmentin with my myoclonic seizure condition. Do not want to start up any seizures. However, this UTI is hurting so badly!!! If It is too risky then I can`t take it!!!! Please help me.
Avatar f tn Augmentin will affect your pill. The other one I do not know about. It probably takes a couple of days for the antiboitics to get out of your system. You might wanna use a second form of protection just in case.
Avatar f tn He thought I had a secondary infection in the uterus and gave me Augmentin to take along with the other I am taking. It has been 36 hours and my breast is still really red and sore. I don't know what to do! I am worried that it may lead to sepsis?? Or should I not be worried since I am taking augmentin? It is the weekend, so I can't call my doc again. I haven't had a recurrence of fever or chills. Was the fever just a symtom of Mastitis?
Avatar n tn I also suffer from diverticulosis and had multiple episodes of diverticulitis, which led to colon resection. I think the problem with strawberries is that the skin has little seeds on them. I have been staying away from them for that reason. Hope this helps...
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about diverticulitis? I had pain on my left side and trouble pooping and went to the ER. They took a CT scan and said I had diverticulitis with inflammation. I was given antibiotics, and later told to get IV antibiotics. But when I was in the hospital the doctor said I was schedule for a surgery consultation, and no one told me they were considering surgery. I got scared. The surgeon said she wanted to take out part of my sigmoid colon and give me a colostomy bag.
Avatar n tn //www.medhelp.org/drugs/Augmentin/show/5288 It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
