I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Now some start a lot lower than me but I have to start a 70 mg then decrease by 10 mg every three days until it stops. Now if I get down to 30 mg and the bleeding starts I jump back to about 50 or 60 mg and start again until I'm off but always jump way up if it restarts. The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it.
s disease for at least 2-3 years... I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad. I just had blood work done and everything was nearly perfect except my globulin was 3.7 high... max is 3.5.... liver functions were completely normal?
So I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just about two years ago and I'm 9 weeks 1 day today, and I've noticed my symptoms of uc are flaring up again, even with being on asacol hd. This poses an issue, because I need to eat healthy for baby. Normally I can adjust what I eat and everything balances out after a few days, but with the pregnancy going on not much of anything sounds good, especially uc safe foods.
i was recently told by my doctor, after a blood test that my thyroid level is 800. he has now prescribed Levothyroxin 50 mcg. i am now getting headaches on my left side of my head by my temple. i rarely get headaches, but since this new medicine i have had this headache for a week now.
i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min.
i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse).
then i stopped taking it for 2 months.
i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.
Thanks you gals! I was on asacol, and now the doctors have me on delzicol (3 doses of 1600 mg a day) and 60 mg of prednisone and I'm starting to see improvement! I tried a bland diet and no matter what I ate it just seemed to get worse. They were debating on starting me on remicade, but I think they dismissed that since I'm doing better with the medicine change. Still in the hospital, but it sounds like I'll be getting out in the next couple of days.

Final diagnosis of colonoscopy
1) Ileum biopsy: small intestine mucosa w no significant histopathologic findings.
2) Random colon biopsy: colonic mucosa w mild chronic inflammation of the lamina propria.
Microscopic description said everything was normal except for "there are areas w a mild increase in stromal inflammatory cells, predominately lymphocytes. Intraepithelial inflammatory cells are not increased".
Out of curiosity, today I called my GI who also treats for Hep C and he also said my daily riba dose would be 800 mg because of my weight. Both doctors stated that the 800 mg dosage it is strictly because of my weight and no other reason.
I treated in 2008 with a different doctor, and I weighed the same 115 lbs, and took 1000 mg of riba per day (with pegasys, no PI). I treated for 16 weeks (when I reached UND) and I did not take any rescue drugs (my hgb went from 14.5 pre tx, to 12.0, 10.
I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Prescribed 20 mg methylphenidate three times daily. How do I determine if this is correct dosage?
My PCP tested me 5 years ago but until I started going to counseling I hadn't taken it seriously, after seeing a counselor last year, she ASKED me if I'd ever been tested for ADHD and I was shocked but it became obvious when I started researching. It's very overwhelming at times but I'm past the denial stage and currently learning how to cope.
Maybe if you do not have AD/HD or are abusing the prescription limits. But, there is absolutely no harm in following the guidelines your doc gave you. There are millions of people with AD/HD, who have been successfully using stimulant medications for years. In fact, some of the latest studies show that taking medication vacations are counterproductive (unless, it is for weight problems).
And, by the way, 18 mg is a very low dose.
