Common Questions and Answers about Asacol hd dose

asacol

Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn I started taking Asacol HD about one week ago. I noticed this morning that I had 3 whole pills in my stool. One pill looked like it was open on one side, but had something white still in it. Not sure about the others. Is this normal to see whole pills in stool, and to see three at one time?
Avatar m tn s disease for at least 2-3 years... I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad. I just had blood work done and everything was nearly perfect except my globulin was 3.7 high... max is 3.5.... liver functions were completely normal?
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn I know when I go into a flare and the bleeding is bad I go on a regulated decline dose to 0. Now some start a lot lower than me but I have to start a 70 mg then decrease by 10 mg every three days until it stops. Now if I get down to 30 mg and the bleeding starts I jump back to about 50 or 60 mg and start again until I'm off but always jump way up if it restarts. The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped.
Avatar m tn CalGal, Final diagnosis of colonoscopy 1) Ileum biopsy: small intestine mucosa w no significant histopathologic findings. 2) Random colon biopsy: colonic mucosa w mild chronic inflammation of the lamina propria. Microscopic description said everything was normal except for "there are areas w a mild increase in stromal inflammatory cells, predominately lymphocytes. Intraepithelial inflammatory cells are not increased".
Avatar f tn He was switched from Asacol to Pentasa when his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He was on a steroid for the first 2 years after he was diagnosed. He hasn't been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar f tn So I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just about two years ago and I'm 9 weeks 1 day today, and I've noticed my symptoms of uc are flaring up again, even with being on asacol hd. This poses an issue, because I need to eat healthy for baby. Normally I can adjust what I eat and everything balances out after a few days, but with the pregnancy going on not much of anything sounds good, especially uc safe foods.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.
Avatar n tn Also doctors typically start out on the lowest dose and increase it based on feedback. If you don't have AD/HD even a small dose of adderall should be noticable. If you do have AD/HD it is possible that the dose is to small. Your doctor is really depending on you for feedback, so give it. You might also want to ask your doc why I am telling you this instead of him.
Avatar f tn A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Gastroenterology/Asacol-800/show/1876778">Asacol 800</a> was started.
1869943 tn?1322654497 Now from my own personnel observations, I took a incrementally lowering dose of Prednezone starting at 70 mg per day for three days then lowering by 10 mg every three days. If bleeding restarted at a low dose I would automatically go back to the higher dose and start again. My Family Dr. trusted my reasoning and always gave me a couple repeats so I virtually did my own dosages.
277836 tn?1359666174 Why should I still be having upset stomach I thought that the prednisone was working but as my dose has tampered down it has seemed to come back everytime I eat its instant please advise if possible. Also should I seek a second opinion???????
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar n tn I had Crystalens HD 500 implanted with diopter 23.00 optic 5.0mm overall dia 11.5mm What dose this mean?
89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...
Avatar m tn As long as the dose is correct, they are a normally functioning child. If the dose is too high, they will seem out of it. There are so many different kinds and dosages...do your homework before you go.
Avatar n tn I did a flex sigonoscopy and the GI said it is a 95% chance it is ulcerative colitis but the samples he took we would have to biopsy and confirm the other 5%. He recommended that I start on prednisone ( a steroid) on a low dose asap. I do not believe this is the best option for a pregnant woman. So my questions are; has anyone ever see a pregnant woman get her first flare up while pregnant? Why would they suggest prednisone for a pregnant woman? Is this safe at all?
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar m tn There is substantial evidence (several large randomized clinical trials) that inhaled corticosteroid therapy (ICS) especially high doses (HD), for example, >500 mcg of fluticasone , increases the likelihood of pneumonia. The administration of systemic (oral) corticosteroids is a known risk factor for tuberculosis (TB).
Avatar f tn Anxiety and depression are two major co-disorders of ADHD or ADD. And it is beginning to look like those people who have undiagnosed AD/HD are much more prone to either anxiety or depression or both. You may find out that once you get the proper medication treatment and understanding of how AD/HD can affect you, your depression will get better. But to answer your question. Doctors start off low and go slow waiting for patient response.
Avatar n tn This is 2nd day after Crystalens HD Implant. My left eye is very blurry can't see far and near is better how long dose it take to clear if ever. Night driving star burst and circles around lights. Any info. would help thanks.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if this is a problem because I am still feeling fatigued with armour better but not alot and I have tried to increase my dose but I get hives. So whats next to do? I am worried about trying HD because I guess it supresses your immune system?
