475555 tn?1469304339 t format properly here, my apologies.) Hi! friends, Medhelpers, and fellow sufferers from hepatitis and the medical profession. In a previous thread, concerned with the reliability of fibrosis tests like biopsy, Fibroscan, Fibrotest, FibroTC, etc., I mentioned a simple fibrosis index I recently discovered called the AST-to-Platelet Ratio Index, or APRI, that can be calculated from blood tests, and which has been shown to have a high level of reliability.
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor. Your Fibroscan score of 22.5 kpa is very high, indicating cirrhosis, however your Ultrasound showed "normal liver echotexture". You should consult a liver specialist and complete a liver function test to give further information about the state of your liver.
Avatar m tn So, if it is a result of tx and now healthier liver (hopefully), how long does it take to come back down to normal range (assuming diet and exercise remain pristine) ?
7510956 tn?1411671417 The authors concluded that etiology is a major factor influencing the performance of liver fibrosis biomarkers. Even after correction for DANA, APRI and Fibrotest-Fibrosure exhibit the best performance. However, liver biopsy is not replaceable, especially to diagnose greater than or equal to F2 and in HCV carriers with normal ALT." I am not sure why you are concerned whether you have F3 or F4? Both indicate extensive liver damage but not irreversible damage.
Avatar f tn I know the virus is out of my system (at least it was at 12 weeks and this is now week 36) and I know my liver is functioning well (ALT was 10 at last check.) But what happens now - when the drugs start to leave my system. My well-meaning friends and family say you must be so excited - but that's not exactly what I'm feeling right now. I think it's mostly anxiety and fear. No question today, just unloading a bit to folks that understand exactly. Thanks for listening.
Avatar f tn BellaMamma, HR 3974 is the number the bill was assigned in the House of Representatives. The actual name of the bill is the Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancer Control Act of 2009. The bill was developed to reduce the significant morbidity and mortality from end stage liver disease and liver cancer caused by chronic hep B & C. Its aim is to increase awareness and prevention for the millions of people who are infected with over 50% unaware that they have these viral diseases.
1722607 tn?1335747858 I had a liver biopsy exactly one year ago. F2 stage 2. I asked my gastro to do another biopsy, he said no. Said I can only get one every 2 years. I heard people talk about fibroscan. What is that? Is there any other way to check my liver status without a biopsy? Maybe a blood test? I really want to know if I have crossed into stage 3.
Avatar m tn There was no evidence that marijuana smoking accelerates progression to significant liver fibrosis (APRI ≥ 1.5) or cirrhosis (APRI ≥ 2; hazard ratio [HR]: 1.02 [0.93–1.12] and 0.99 [0.88–1.12], respectively). Each 10 additional joints/week smoked slightly increased the risk of progression to a clinical diagnosis of cirrhosis and ESLD combined (HR, 1.13 [1.01–1.28]).
166496 tn?1236182312 The biomarker assay AST-to-Platelet Ratio Index (APRI) is not proprietary and costs no more than a routine blood draw and routine liver function tests. APRI is calculated as (AST/upper limit of normal range)/platelet count (109/L) × 100. However, a recent large meta-analysis suggested that APRI can identify hepatitis C-related fibrosis with only a moderate degree of accuracy (AUROC of 0.77 for significant fibrosis and 0.80 for severe fibrosis).
Avatar f tn Since my earlier note, I have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematoses and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (**** variant) this past year. My amino transferases have been elevated for almost thirty years (the time of first measurement). I had asked my doctors for an A1AT deficiency test for a number of years, but it was only performed a week ago after all other tests other than ANA yielded a negative result on many occasions. My alpha 1 levels are 34.
Avatar m tn I can tell you it took a couple of months for my liver enzymes to lower after I quit drinking. I probably had HCV at the time and didn't know it but still. They have not been as high as they were back then. This link gives understandable info related to biomarkers of excessive alcohol consumption. Don't get me wrong since I am not suggesting yours was excessive; I found the explanations easy to follow. http://www.jfponline.com/pages.asp?
Avatar n tn I had some really odd symptoms with Yasmin and begged my dr to take me off of it, since then I was on Apri, which is just generic desogen. Initally did much better on this one so I'm not sure how yaz/yasmin works but I can say my withdrawal bleed "period" got way longer on it- I used to only bleed for 4 days on Aleese, then gradually this increased and due to weight gain and water retention switched to Yasmin...
